II Kings 20

In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.

Ved den tid blev Esekias dødssyk; da kom profeten Esaias, Amos' sønn, inn til ham og sa til ham: Så sier Herren: Beskikk ditt hus! For du skal dø og ikke leve lenger.

Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying,

Da vendte han sitt ansikt mot veggen og bad til Herren og sa:

I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

Akk, Herre! kom dog i hu at jeg har vandret for ditt åsyn i trofasthet og med helt hjerte og gjort hvad godt er i dine øine! Og Esekias gråt høit.

And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying,

Men Esaias var ennu ikke kommet ut av den indre by, da kom Herrens ord til ham, og det lød så:

Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.

Vend tilbake og si til Esekias, mitt folks fyrste: Så sier Herren, din far Davids Gud: Jeg har hørt din bønn, jeg har sett dine tårer. Se, jeg vil helbrede dig; på den tredje dag skal du gå op til Herrens hus.

And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

Og jeg vil legge femten år til din alder, og jeg vil redde dig og denne by av assyrerkongens hånd, og jeg vil verne denne by for min skyld og for min tjener Davids skyld.

And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.

Og Esaias sa: Hent en fikenkake! Så hentet de en fikenkake og la den på bylden, og han frisknet til.

And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the LORD the third day?

Og Esekias sa til Esaias: Hvad skal jeg ha til tegn på at Herren vil helbrede mig, så jeg den tredje dag kan gå op til Herrens hus?

And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?

Esaias svarte: Dette skal du ha til tegn fra Herren på at Herren vil holde det han har lovt: Skal skyggen gå ti streker frem, eller skal den gå ti streker tilbake?

And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.

Esekias sa: Det er en lett sak for skyggen å strekke sig ti streker frem; nei, skyggen skal gå ti streker tilbake.

And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the LORD: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.

Da ropte profeten Esaias til Herren; og han lot skyggen gå tilbake de streker som den var gått ned på Akas' solskive - ti streker.

At that time Berodach–baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah: for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.

På den tid sendte Berodak Baladan, Baladans sønn, kongen i Babel, brev og gaver til Esekias; for han hadde hørt at Esekias hadde vært syk.

And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.

Da Esekias hadde hørt på dem, lot han dem få se hele sitt skattkammer, sølvet og gullet og krydderiene og den kostbare olje og hele sitt våbenhus og alt det som fantes i hans skattkammere; det var ikke den ting Esekias ikke lot dem få se i sitt hus og i hele sitt rike.

Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon.

Da kom profeten Esaias til kong Esekias og sa til ham: Hvad sa disse menn, og hvorfra kommer de til dig? Esekias svarte: De er kommet fra et land langt borte, fra Babel.

And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All the things that are in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.

Og han sa: Hvad fikk de se i ditt hus? Esekias svarte: Alt det som er i mitt hus, har de fått se; det var ikke den ting jeg ikke lot dem lå se i mine skattkammer.

And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of the LORD.

Da sa Esaias til Esekias: Hør Herrens ord!

Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.

Se, de dager kommer da alt det som er i ditt hus, og alle de skatter dine fedre har samlet like til denne dag, skal føres bort til Babel; det skal ikke bli nogen ting tilbake, sier Herren.

And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

Og blandt dine sønner som skal utgå av dig, som du skal avle, skal det være nogen som blir tatt til hoffmenn i kongen av Babels palass.

Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?

Da sa Esekias til Esaias: Det Herrens ord som du har talt, er godt. Så sa han: Er det ikke så, når det skal være fred og trygghet i mine dager?

And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made a pool, and a conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Hvad som ellers er å fortelle om Esekias og om alle hans store gjerninger, og hvorledes han gjorde dammen og vannledningen og førte vannet inn i byen, det er opskrevet i Judas kongers krønike.

And Hezekiah slept with his fathers: and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.

Og Esekias la sig til hvile hos sine fedre, og hans sønn Manasse blev konge i hans sted.
