II Corinthians 12

It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.

Zu rühmen nützt mir wahrlich nicht; denn ich will auf Gesichte und Offenbarungen des Herrn kommen.

I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.

Ich kenne einen Menschen in Christo, vor vierzehn Jahren (ob im Leibe, weiß ich nicht, oder außer dem Leibe, weiß ich nicht; Gott weiß es), einen Menschen, der entrückt wurde bis in den dritten Himmel.

And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)

Und ich kenne einen solchen Menschen (ob im Leibe oder außer dem Leibe, weiß ich nicht; Gott weiß es),

How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

daß er in das Paradies entrückt wurde und unaussprechliche Worte hörte, welche der Mensch nicht sagen darf.

Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities.

Über einen solchen werde ich mich rühmen; über mich selbst aber werde ich mich nicht rühmen, es sei denn meiner Schwachheiten.

For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me.

Denn wenn ich mich rühmen will, werde ich nicht töricht sein, denn ich werde die Wahrheit sagen. Ich enthalte mich aber dessen, auf daß nicht jemand höher von mir denke, als was er an mir sieht, oder was er von mir hört.

And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

Und auf daß ich mich nicht durch die Überschwenglichkeit der Offenbarungen überhebe, wurde mir ein Dorn für das Fleisch gegeben, ein Engel Satans, auf daß er mich mit Fäusten schlage, auf daß ich mich nicht überhebe.

For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.

Für dieses flehte ich dreimal zum Herrn, auf daß er von mir abstehen möge.

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Und er hat zu mir gesagt: Meine Gnade genügt dir, denn meine Kraft wird in Schwachheit vollbracht. Daher will ich am allerliebsten mich vielmehr meiner Schwachheiten rühmen, auf daß die Kraft des Christus über mir wohne.

Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Deshalb habe ich Wohlgefallen an Schwachheiten, an Schmähungen, an Nöten, an Verfolgungen, an Ängsten für Christum; denn wenn ich schwach bin, dann bin ich stark.

I am become a fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing.

Ich bin ein Tor geworden; ihr habt mich dazu gezwungen. Denn ich hätte von euch empfohlen werden sollen, denn ich habe in nichts den ausgezeichnetsten Aposteln nachgestanden, wenn ich auch nichts bin.

Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.

Die Zeichen des Apostels sind ja unter euch vollbracht worden in allem Ausharren, in Zeichen und Wundern und mächtigen Taten.

For what is it wherein ye were inferior to other churches, except it be that I myself was not burdensome to you? forgive me this wrong.

Denn was ist es, worin ihr verkürzt worden seid gegen die anderen Versammlungen, es sei denn, daß ich selbst euch nicht zur Last gefallen bin? Verzeihet mir dieses Unrecht.

Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

Siehe, dieses dritte Mal stehe ich bereit, zu euch zu kommen, und werde nicht zur Last fallen, denn ich suche nicht das Eure, sondern euch. Denn die Kinder sollen nicht für die Eltern Schätze sammeln, sondern die Eltern für die Kinder.

And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.

Ich will aber sehr gern alles verwenden und völlig verwendet werden für eure Seelen, wenn ich auch, je überschwenglicher ich euch liebe, um so weniger geliebt werde.

But be it so, I did not burden you: nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile.

Doch es sei so, ich habe euch nicht beschwert; weil ich aber schlau bin, so habe ich euch mit List gefangen.

Did I make a gain of you by any of them whom I sent unto you?

Habe ich euch etwa durch einen von denen übervorteilt, die ich zu euch gesandt habe?

I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? walked we not in the same steps?

Ich habe Titus gebeten und den Bruder mit ihm gesandt; hat etwa Titus euch übervorteilt? Haben wir nicht in demselben Geiste gewandelt? nicht in denselben Fußstapfen?

Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.

Ihr seid lange der Meinung gewesen, daß wir uns vor euch verantworten. Wir reden vor Gott in Christo, alles aber, Geliebte, zu eurer Auferbauung.

For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:

Denn ich fürchte, daß, wenn ich komme, ich euch etwa nicht als solche finde, wie ich will, und daß ich von euch als solcher erfunden werde, wie ihr nicht wollet: daß etwa Streitigkeiten, Neid, Zorn, Zänkereien, Verleumdungen, Ohrenbläsereien, Aufgeblasenheit, Unordnungen vorhanden seien;

And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.

daß, wenn ich wiederkomme, mein Gott mich eurethalben demütige, und ich über viele trauern müsse, die zuvor gesündigt und nicht Buße getan haben über die Unreinigkeit und Hurerei und Unzucht, die sie getrieben haben.
