II Chronicles 14

So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

Und Abija legte sich zu seinen Vätern, und man begrub ihn in der Stadt Davids. Und Asa, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt. In seinen Tagen hatte das Land Ruhe zehn Jahre.

And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:

Und Asa tat, was gut und recht war in den Augen Jehovas, seines Gottes.

For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:

Und er tat die fremden Altäre und die Höhen hinweg, und zerschlug die Bildsäulen und hieb die Ascherim um;

And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

und er sprach zu Juda, daß sie Jehova, den Gott ihrer Väter, suchen und das Gesetz und das Gebot tun sollten;

Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.

und er tat aus allen Städten Judas die Höhen und die Sonnensäulen hinweg. Und das Königreich hatte Ruhe unter ihm.

And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.

Und er baute feste Städte in Juda; denn das Land hatte Ruhe, und es war kein Krieg wider ihn in jenen Jahren, denn Jehova hatte ihm Ruhe geschafft.

Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.

Und er sprach zu Juda: Laßt uns diese Städte bauen, und Mauern ringsum machen und Türme, Tore und Riegel; noch ist das Land vor uns, denn wir haben Jehova, unseren Gott, gesucht; wir haben ihn gesucht, und er hat uns Ruhe geschafft ringsumher. Und so bauten sie, und es gelang ihnen.

And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.

Und Asa hatte ein Heer, das Schild und Lanze trug: aus Juda 300000 und aus Benjamin 280000 Mann, die Tartschen trugen und den Bogen spannten: sämtlich tapfere Helden.

And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.

Und Serach, der Kuschiter, zog wider sie aus mit einem Heere von tausendmal tausend Mann, und dreihundert Wagen; und er kam bis Marescha.

Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

Und Asa zog ihm entgegen; und sie stellten sich in Schlachtordnung auf im Tale Zephata bei Marescha.

And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.

Und Asa rief zu Jehova, seinem Gott, und sprach: Jehova! um zu helfen, ist bei dir kein Unterschied zwischen dem Mächtigen und dem Kraftlosen. Hilf uns, Jehova, unser Gott! denn wir stützen uns auf dich, und in deinem Namen sind wir wider diese Menge gezogen. Du bist Jehova, unser Gott; laß den Menschen nichts wider dich vermögen!

So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

Und Jehova schlug die Kuschiter vor Asa und vor Juda; und die Kuschiter flohen.

And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.

Und Asa und das Volk, das bei ihm war, jagten ihnen nach bis Gerar. Und es fielen von den Kuschitern so viele, daß sie sich nicht wieder erholen konnten; denn sie wurden zerschmettert vor Jehova und vor seinem Heere. Und sie trugen sehr viel Beute davon.

And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.

Auch schlugen sie alle Städte rings um Gerar, denn der Schrecken Jehovas war auf ihnen; und sie beraubten alle die Städte, denn es war viel Raubes darin.

They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.

Und auch die Herdenzelte schlugen sie und führten Kleinvieh in Menge weg und Kamele. Und sie kehrten nach Jerusalem zurück.
