Jeremiah 1

The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:

این کتاب شامل پیامهایی است از طرف ارمیا پسر حِلقیا، یکی از کاهنان شهر عناتوت در سرزمین بنیامین.

To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

خداوند در سیزدهمین سال سلطنت یوشیا پسر آمون، پادشاه یهودا با ارمیا سخن گفت.

It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

بار دیگر وقتی یهویاقیم -‌پسر یوشیا- پادشاه یهودیه بود خداوند با او سخن گفت. بعد از آن تا یازدهمین سال سلطنت صدقیا -‌پسر یوشیا- خداوند چندین بار با ارمیا سخن گفت. در پنجمین ماه همان سال مردم اورشلیم به تبعید برده شدند.

Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

خداوند به من گفت:

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

«قبل از آنکه به تو هستی بخشم، تو را برگزیدم، و قبل از آنکه به دنیا بیایی، تو را انتخاب کردم تا پیام‌آوری برای تمام ملّتها باشی.»

Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

در جواب گفتم: «ای خداوند متعال، من خیلی جوان هستم و نمی‌دانم چگونه سخن بگویم.»

But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

امّا خداوند به من گفت: «نگو که خیلی جوانی، در عوض به پیش مردمی که تو را می‌فرستم برو و هرچه به تو دستور می‌دهم به آنها بگو.

Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

از آنها نترس، چون من با تو خواهم بود و از تو حمایت خواهم کرد. من -‌خداوند- چنین گفته‌ام»

Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

آنگاه خداوند لبهای مرا لمس کرد و به من گفت: «گوش بده، من آنچه را که باید بگویی در دهانت خواهم گذاشت.

See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

من امروز به تو قدرتی می‌دهم که بتوانی ملّتها و دولتها را ریشه‌کن کنی، ویران و واژگون سازی و دوباره بسازی و از نو بکاری.»

Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.

خداوند به من گفت: «ارمیا، چه می‌بینی؟» در پاسخ گفتم: «یک شاخهٔ درخت بادام.»

Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

خداوند گفت: «درست می‌بینی و من مواظب هستم تا سخنان من تحقّق یابند.»

And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.

سپس خداوند بار دیگر با من سخن گفت و پرسید: «چه چیز دیگری می‌بینی؟» در جواب گفتم: «در شمال دیگی را در حال جوشیدن می‌بینم که به این‌ سو سرازیر می‌شود.»

Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

او به من گفت: «ویرانی از شمال غلیان می‌کند و تمام موجودات زنده را در این سرزمین دربر می‌گیرد؛

For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

زیرا من تمام ملّتها را از شمال می‌خوانم تا بیایند. پادشاهان آنها تختهای خود را در دروازه‌های شهر اورشلیم و اطراف دیوار و اطراف آن و همچنین در اطراف شهرهای یهودیه خواهند نهاد.

And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

من قوم خود را تنبیه خواهم کرد، چون آنها مرتکب گناه شده‌اند. آنها مرا ترک کرده و به حضور خدایان دیگر قربانی گذرانده‌اند، بُتها ساختند و آنها را پرستش کردند.

Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.

ای ارمیا آماده شو، برو و هرچه به تو دستور می‌دهم به آنها بگو. از آنها نترس وگرنه من تو را از آنها بیشتر خواهم ترسانید.

For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

ای ارمیا، گوش کن، همه‌کس در این سرزمین -‌از پادشاهان یهودا، سرداران، کاهنان گرفته تا مردم عادی- همه برضد تو خواهند بود. امّا امروز من قدرتی به تو می‌دهم که بتوانی در برابر آنها مقاومت کنی. تو مانند شهری با بُرج و باروی مستحکم، مانند ستونی از آهن و دیواری از برنز خواهی بود. آنها تو را شکست نخواهند داد، چون من با تو خواهم بود و از تو حمایت خواهم کرد. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.»

And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.

ای ارمیا، گوش کن، همه‌کس در این سرزمین -‌از پادشاهان یهودا، سرداران، کاهنان گرفته تا مردم عادی- همه برضد تو خواهند بود. امّا امروز من قدرتی به تو می‌دهم که بتوانی در برابر آنها مقاومت کنی. تو مانند شهری با بُرج و باروی مستحکم، مانند ستونی از آهن و دیواری از برنز خواهی بود. آنها تو را شکست نخواهند داد، چون من با تو خواهم بود و از تو حمایت خواهم کرد. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.»
