Daniel 1

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.

В третата година от царуването на юдовия цар Йоаким вавилонският цар Навуходоносор дойде в Ерусалим и го обсади.

And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

И Господ предаде в ръката му юдовия цар Йоаким и част от съдовете на Божия дом и той ги занесе в земята Сенаар, в капището на своя бог, и съдовете занесе в съкровищницата на своя бог.

And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes;

И царят каза на Асфеназ, началника на скопците си, да доведе някои от израилевите синове и от царския род, и от благородните —

Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

момчета без никакъв недостатък, хубави на вид, които да проумяват всякаква мъдрост и да владеят знание, и да разбират наука, и които са способни да стоят в царския дворец, за да ги учи на книжнината и езика на халдейците.

And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.

И царят им определи за всеки ден дял от царските ястия и от виното, което той пиеше, и да ги възпитават три години, а след изтичането им да стоят пред царя.

Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

А между тях бяха от юдовите синове Даниил, Анания, Мисаил и Азария.

Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed–nego.

И началникът на скопците ги преименува, като нарече Даниил Валтасасар, а Анания — Седрах, а Мисаил — Мисах, а Азария — Авденаго.

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

А Даниил реши в сърцето си да не се осквернява от ястията на царя и от виното, което той пиеше; и помоли началника на скопците да не се осквернява.

Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.

А Бог даде на Даниил благоволение и милост пред началника на скопците.

And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.

И началникът на скопците каза на Даниил: Аз се боя от господаря си, царя, който определи ястието ви и питието ви, да не би да види, че лицата ви изглеждат по-зле от тези на момчетата на вашата възраст, и така да изложите главата ми на опасност пред царя.

Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,

Тогава Даниил каза на надзирателя, когото началникът на скопците беше поставил над Даниил, Анания, Мисаил и Азария:

Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.

Опитай, моля те, със слугите си десет дни — да ни дават зеленчук да ядем и вода да пием.

Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.

После нека се прегледат пред теб нашите лица и лицата на момчетата, които ядат от ястията на царя; и според това, което видиш, постъпи със слугите си.

So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.

И той ги послуша в това нещо и опита с тях десет дни.

And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.

И на края на десетте дни техните лица изглеждаха по-красиви и по-охранени отколкото лицата на всичките момчета, които ядяха от ястията на царя.

Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.

И надзирателят отне от тях ястието и виното, което трябваше да пият, и им даваше зеленчук.

As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

А на тези четири момчета Бог даде знание и способност за всякаква книга и мъдрост; и Даниил разбираше всякакви видения и сънища.

Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.

И в края на дните, когато царят беше казал да ги въведат, началникът на скопците ги въведе пред Навуходоносор.

And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.

И царят разговаря с тях и между всички тях не се намери друг като Даниил, Анания, Мисаил и Азария; и те стояха пред царя.

And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

И във всяко дело, което изискваше мъдрост и разбиране, за което царят ги попита, ги намери десет пъти по-добри от всичките книжници и гадатели, които бяха в цялото му царство.

And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.

И Даниил остана до първата година на цар Кир.
