Psalms 114

Quando Israele uscì dall’Egitto, e la casa di Giacobbe di fra un popolo dal linguaggio strano,

When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;

Giuda divenne il santuario dell’Eterno; Israele, suo dominio.

Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.

Il mare lo vide e fuggì, il Giordano tornò addietro.

The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.

I monti saltarono come montoni, i colli come agnelli.

The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.

Che avevi, o mare, che fuggisti? E tu, Giordano, che tornasti addietro?

What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?

E voi, monti, che saltaste come montoni, e voi, colli, come agnelli?

Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs?

Trema, o terra, alla presenza del Signore, alla presenza dell’Iddio di Giacobbe,

Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;

che mutò la roccia in istagno, il macigno in sorgente d’acqua.

Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.
