Isaiah 41

Isole, fate silenzio dinanzi a me! Riprendano nuove forze i popoli, s’accostino, e poi parlino! Veniamo assieme in giudizio!

Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak: let us come near together to judgment.

Chi ha suscitato dall’oriente colui che la giustizia chiama sui suoi passi? Egli dà in balìa di lui le nazioni, e lo fa dominare sui re; egli riduce la loro spada in polvere, e il loro arco come pula portata via dal vento.

Who raised up the righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made him rule over kings? he gave them as the dust to his sword, and as driven stubble to his bow.

Ei li insegue, e passa in trionfo per una via che i suoi piedi non hanno mai calcato.

He pursued them, and passed safely; even by the way that he had not gone with his feet.

Chi ha operato, chi ha fatto questo? Colui che fin dal principio ha chiamato le generazioni alla vita; io, l’Eterno, che sono il primo, e che sarò cogli ultimi sempre lo stesso.

Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he.

Le isole lo vedono, e son prese da paura; le estremità della terra tremano. Essi s’avvicinano, arrivano!

The isles saw it, and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came.

S’aiutano a vicenda; ognuno dice al suo fratello: "Coraggio!"

They helped every one his neighbour; and every one said to his brother, Be of good courage.

Il fabbro incoraggia l’orafo; il battiloro incoraggia colui che batte l’incudine, e dice della saldatura: "E’ buona!" e fissa l’idolo con de’ chiodi, perché non si smova.

So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he that smootheth with the hammer him that smote the anvil, saying, It is ready for the sodering: and he fastened it with nails, that it should not be moved.

Ma tu, Israele, mio servo, Giacobbe che io ho scelto, progenie d’Abrahamo, l’amico mio,

But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.

tu che ho preso dalle estremità della terra, che ho chiamato dalle parti più remote d’essa, e a cui ho detto: "Tu sei il mio servo; t’ho scelto e non t’ho reietto",

Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away.

tu, non temere, perché io son teco; non ti smarrire, perché io sono il tuo Dio; io ti fortifico, io ti soccorro, io ti sostengo con la destra della mia giustizia.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Ecco, tutti quelli che si sono infiammati contro di te saranno svergognati e confusi; i tuoi avversari saranno ridotti a nulla, e periranno.

Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.

Tu li cercherai, e non li troverai più quelli che contendevano teco; quelli che ti facevano guerra saranno ridotti come nulla, come cosa che più non è;

Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.

perché io, l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, son quegli che ti prendo per la mia man destra e ti dico: "Non temere, io t’aiuto!"

For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

Non temere, o Giacobbe che sei come un verme, o residuo d’Israele! Son io che t’aiuto, dice l’Eterno; e il tuo redentore è il Santo d’Israele.

Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

Ecco, io faccio di te un erpice nuovo dai denti aguzzi; tu trebbierai i monti e li ridurrai in polvere, e renderai le colline simili alla pula.

Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.

Tu li ventilerai, e il vento li porterà via, e il turbine li disperderà; ma tu giubilerai nell’Eterno, e ti glorierai nel Santo d’Israele.

Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and thou shalt rejoice in the LORD, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.

I miseri e poveri cercano acqua, e non v’è né; la loro lingua è secca dalla sete; io, l’Eterno, li esaudirò; io l’Iddio d’Israele, non li abbandonerò.

When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.

Io farò scaturir de’ fiumi sulle nude alture, e delle fonti in mezzo alle valli; farò del deserto uno stagno d’acqua, e della terra arida una terra di sorgenti;

I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.

pianterò nel deserto il cedro, l’acacia, il mirto, l’albero da olio; metterò ne’ luoghi sterili il cipresso, il platano ed il larice tutti assieme,

I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together:

affinché quelli veggano, sappiano, considerino e capiscano tutti quanti che la mano dell’Eterno ha operato questo, e che il santo d’Israele n’è il creatore.

That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.

Presentate la vostra causa, dice l’Eterno, esponete le vostre ragioni, dice il Re di Giacobbe.

Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob.

Le espongan essi, e ci dichiarino quel che dovrà avvenire. Le vostre predizioni di prima quali sono? Ditecele, perché possiam porvi mente, e riconoscerne il compimento; ovvero fateci udire le cose avvenire.

Let them bring them forth, and shew us what shall happen: let them shew the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come.

Annunziateci quel che succederà più tardi, e sapremo che siete degli dèi; si, fate del bene o del male onde noi lo veggiamo, e lo consideriamo assieme.

Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.

Ecco, voi siete niente, e l’opera vostra è da nulla: E’ un abominio lo sceglier voi!

Behold, ye are of nothing, and your work of nought: an abomination is he that chooseth you.

Io l’ho suscitato dal settentrione, ed egli viene; dall’oriente, ed egli invoca il mio nome; egli calpesta i principi come fango, come il vasaio che calca l’argilla.

I have raised up one from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of the sun shall he call upon my name: and he shall come upon princes as upon morter, and as the potter treadeth clay.

Chi ha annunziato questo fin dal principio perché lo sapessimo? e molto prima perché dicessimo: "E’ vero?" Nessuno l’ha annunziato, nessuno l’ha predetto, e nessuno ha udito i vostri discorsi.

Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? and beforetime, that we may say, He is righteous? yea, there is none that sheweth, yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that heareth your words.

Io pel primo ho detto a Sion: "Guardate, eccoli!" e a Gerusalemme ho inviato un messo di buone novelle.

The first shall say to Zion, Behold, behold them: and I will give to Jerusalem one that bringeth good tidings.

E guardo… e non v’è alcuno, non v’è tra loro alcuno che sappia dare un consiglio, e che, s’io l’interrogo, possa darmi risposta.

For I beheld, and there was no man; even among them, and there was no counsellor, that, when I asked of them, could answer a word.

Ecco, tutti quanti costoro non sono che vanità; le loro opere sono nulla, e i loro idoli non sono che vento e cose da niente.

Behold, they are all vanity; their works are nothing: their molten images are wind and confusion.
