Psalms 39

मैंने कहा, “जब तक ये दुष्ट मेरे सामने रहेंगे, तब तक मैं अपने कथन के प्रति सचेत रहूँगा। मैं अपनी वाणी को पाप से दूर रखूँगा। और मैं अपने मुँह को बंद कर लूँगा।”

I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

सो इसलिए मैंने कुछ नहीं कहा। मैंने भला भी नहीं कहा! किन्तु मैं बहुत परेशान हुआ।

I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.

मैं बहुत क्रोधित था। इस विषय में मैं जितना सोचता चला गया, उतना ही मेरा क्रोध बढ़ता चला गया। सो मैंने अपना मुख तनिक नहीं खोला।

My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue,

हे यहोवा, मुझको बता कि मेरे साथ क्या कुछ घटित होने वाला है? मुझे बता, मैं कब तक जीवित रहूँगा? मुझको जानने दे सचमुच मेरा जीवन कितना छोटा है।

LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.

हे यहोवा, तूने मुझको बस एक क्षणिक जीवन दिया। तेरे लिये मेरा जीवन कुछ भी नहीं है। हर किसी का जीवन एक बादल सा है। कोई भी सदा नहीं जीता!

Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

वह जीवन जिसको हम लोग जीते हैं, वह झूठी छाया भर होता है। जीवन की सारी भाग दौड़ निरर्थक होती है। हम तो बस व्यर्थ ही चिन्ताएँ पालते हैं। धन दौलत, वस्तुएँ हम जोड़ते रहते हैं, किन्तु नहीं जानते उन्हें कौन भोगेगा।

Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.

सो, मेरे यहोवा, मैं क्या आशा रखूँ? तू ही बस मेरी आशा है!

And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

हे यहोवा, जो कुकर्म मैंने किये हैं, उनसे तू ही मुझको बचाएगा। तू मेरे संग किसी को भी किसी अविवेकी जन के संग जैसा व्यवहार नहीं करने देगा।

Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.

मैं अपना मुँह नहीं खोलूँगा। मैं कुछ भी नहीं कहूँगा। यहोवा तूने वैसे किया जैसे करना चाहिए था।

I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it.

किन्तुपरमेश्वर, मुझको दण्ड देना छोड़ दे। यदि तूने मुझको दण्ड देना नहीं छोड़ा, तो तू मेरा नाश करेगा!

Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thine hand.

हे यहोवा, तू लोगों को उनके कुकर्मो का दण्ड देता है। और इस प्रकार जीवन की खरी राह लोगों को सिखाता है। हमारी काया जीर्ण शीर्ण हो जाती है। ऐसे उस कपड़े सी जिसे कीड़ा लगा हो। हमारा जीवन एक छोटे बादल जैसे देखते देखते विलीन हो जाती है।

When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity. Selah.

हे यहोवा, मेरी विनती सुन! मेरे शब्दों को सुन जो मैं तुझसे पुकार कर कहता हूँ। मेरे आँसुओं को देख। मैं बस राहगीर हूँ, तुझको साथ लिये इस जीवन के मार्ग से गुजरता हूँ। इस जीवन मार्ग पर मैं अपने पूर्वजों की तरह कुछ समय मात्र टिकता हूँ।

Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

हे यहोवा, मुझको अकेला छोड़ दे, मरने से पहले मुझे आनन्दित होने दे, थोड़े से समय बाद मैं जा चुका होऊँगा।

O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.
