Titus 3

به آنها خاطرنشان ساز كه مطیع حكمرانان و اولیای امور بوده و از آنها اطاعت كنند و برای انجام هرگونه نیكوكاری آماده باشند.

Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,

به آنها بگو كه از هیچ‌کس بدگویی نكنند و از مجادله دوری جسته، ملایم و آرام باشند. با تمام مردم کاملاً مؤدّب باشند،

To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.

زیرا خود ما هم زمانی نادان و نافرمان و گمراه و بردگان انواع شهوات و عیّاشی بودیم و روزهای خود را به كینه‌جویی و حسادت می‌گذرانیدیم. دیگران از ما نفرت داشتند و ما از آنها متنفّر بودیم.

For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

امّا هنگامی‌كه مهر و محبّت نجات‌دهندهٔ ما خدا، آشكار شد،

But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

او ما را نجات داد. امّا این نجات به‌خاطر کارهای نیكویی كه ما كردیم نبود، بلكه به سبب رحمت او و از راه شستشویی بود كه به وسیلهٔ آن، روح‌القدس به ما تولّد تازه و حیات تازه بخشید.

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

زیرا خدا روح‌القدس را به وسیلهٔ عیسی مسیح نجات‌دهندهٔ ما، به فراوانی به ما عطا فرمود

Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

تا به وسیلهٔ فیض او کاملاً نیک محسوب شده و مطابق امید خود، وارث حیات جاودانی گردیم.

That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

این سخن درست است و می‌خواهم به این مطلب اهمیّت مخصوصی بدهی تا آنانی كه به خدا ایمان دارند فراموش نكنند كه خود را وقف نیكوكاری نمایند، زیرا این چیزها برای آدمیان خوب و مفیدند.

This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

امّا از مباحثات احمقانه دربارهٔ شجره‌نامه‌ها و اختلافات و نزاعها بر سر شریعت دوری كن، زیرا اینها بیهوده و بی‌ارزش هستند.

But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

اگر شخصی ستیزه‌جو باشد، یكی دو بار به او گوشزد كن و بعد از آن، دیگر كاری با او نداشته باش.

A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;

چون می‌دانی كه چنین شخصی منحرف شده و گناهانش نشان می‌دهند كه او خود را محكوم كرده است.

Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.

هروقت كه «ارتیماس» یا «تخیكاس» را نزد تو فرستادم، عجله كن كه به شهر «نیكوپولیس» پیش من بیایی، زیرا تصمیم گرفته‌ام زمستان را در آنجا بگذرانم.

When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter.

و تا می‌توانی به «زیناس وكیل» و «اپلس» كمک كن تا به سفر خود ادامه دهند و مواظب باش كه به چیزی محتاج نشوند.

Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them.

اعضای كلیساهای ما باید یاد بگیرند كه چگونه خود را وقف نیكوكاری نمایند تا بتوانند نیازمندیهای واقعی مردم را رفع كنند و زندگی آنها بی‌ثمر نباشد.

And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.

تمام کسانی‌که با من هستند به تو سلام می‌رسانند. به دوستانی كه با ما در ایمان متّحد هستند، سلام برسان. فیض خدا با همه شما باد.

All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen. It was written to Titus, ordained the first bishop of the church of the Cretians, from Nicopolis of Macedonia.
