Genesis 18

خداوند در محل‌ درختان مقدّس‌ممری به ‌ابراهیم‌ ظاهر شد. ابراهیم‌ در موقع‌ گرمای روز در مقابل‌ چادر خودش ‌نشسته ‌بود.

And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;

وقتی سر خود را بلند كرد، دید كه ‌سه ‌مرد در جلوی او ایستاده‌اند. همین ‌كه ‌آنان‌ را دید برخاست‌. به ‌طرف ‌آنها دوید تا از ایشان‌ استقبال ‌كند. ابراهیم ‌در مقابل ‌آنها تعظیم‌ و سجده‌ كرد.

And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,

سپس‌ به‌ آنها گفت‌: «ای آقایان‌، من‌ در خدمت ‌شما هستم‌، قبل ‌از اینكه‌ از اینجا بروید در منزل‌ من ‌توقّف ‌كنید.

And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:

اجازه‌ بدهید آب‌ بیاورم ‌تا پاهایتان‌ را بشویید. شما می‌توانید در زیر این ‌درخت‌ استراحت‌ كنید.

Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:

من‌ برای شما كمی غذا می‌آورم ‌تا بخورید و برای بقیّهٔ سفر خود قوّت بگیرید. شما با آمدن ‌به‌ منزل‌ من ‌بر من‌ منّت ‌بگذارید. پس ‌اجازه ‌بدهید تا در خدمت‌ شما باشم‌.» آنها جواب‌ دادند «بسیار خوب، ما قبول‌ می‌كنیم‌.»

And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.

ابراهیم ‌با عجله ‌داخل چادر‌ رفت‌ و به‌ سارا گفت‌: «زودباش‌، یک ‌پیمانه ‌از بهترین ‌آردهایت ‌را بردار و مقداری نان ‌بپز.»

And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.

سپس‌ به‌ طرف ‌گلّه ‌دوید و یک ‌گوسالهٔ لطیف ‌و چاق‌ گرفت ‌و به‌ نوكر خود داد تا فوراً آن را بپزد.

And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.

او مقداری ماست‌ و شیر با گوشت ‌گوساله‌ای كه‌ پخته ‌بود، آورد و جلوی آن‌ مردان ‌گذاشت ‌و همان‌جا زیر درخت ‌شخصاً از آنها پذیرایی كرد. آنها از آن ‌غذا خوردند.

And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.

سپس ‌از ابراهیم‌ پرسیدند: «زن‌ تو سارا كجاست‌؟» ابراهیم ‌جواب ‌داد كه‌ داخل ‌چادر‌ است‌.

And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.

یكی از آنان‌ گفت‌: «نه ‌ماه ‌دیگر برمی‌گردم‌. در آن‌ وقت ‌زن ‌تو سارا صاحب ‌پسری خواهد بود.» سارا، نزدیک‌ در چادر، پشت ‌او ایستاده‌ بود و گوش ‌می‌داد.

And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.

ابراهیم‌ و سارا خیلی پیر بودند. و عادت‌ ماهانهٔ زنانگی سارا قطع شده بود.

Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.

سارا به‌ خودش‌ خندید و گفت‌: «اکنون كه‌ من ‌پیر و فرسوده‌ شده‌ام‌، آیا می‌توانم‌ از رابطهٔ جنسی لذّت‌ ببرم‌؟ در حالی كه‌ شوهرم‌ نیز پیر و فرسوده‌ است‌؟»

Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

پس خداوند از ابراهیم‌ پرسید: «چرا سارا خندید و گفت 'آیا حقیقتاً من‌ می‌توانم ‌بچّه‌دار شوم ‌درحالی‌که ‌خیلی پیر هستم‌؟'

And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?

آیا چیزی هست‌ كه ‌برای خداوند مشكل‌ باشد؟ همان‌طور كه ‌گفتم ‌نه‌ ماه‌ دیگر خواهم ‌آمد و سارا دارای پسری خواهد بود.»

Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

سارا از ترس ‌انكار كرد و گفت‌: «من ‌نخندیدم‌» ولی او جواب داد: «تو خندیدی.‌»

Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.

آن ‌مردان ‌آنجا را ترک‌ نموده‌ و به‌ طرف ‌سدوم‌ حركت‌ كردند. ابراهیم‌ آنان ‌را بدرقه‌ كرد.

And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.

خداوند فرمود: «من‌ چیزی را كه ‌می‌خواهم ‌انجام‌ بدهم ‌از ابراهیم ‌مخفی نمی‌كنم‌.

And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;

نسل ‌او یک ‌قوم ‌بزرگ‌ و قوی خواهد شد و به ‌وسیلهٔ او من ‌همهٔ ملّتها را بركت‌ خواهم ‌داد.

Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?

من ‌او را انتخاب ‌كرده‌ام ‌تا به ‌پسرانش‌ و به ‌نسل ‌خود یاد بدهد كه‌ از من‌ اطاعت‌ كنند تا هرچه‌ را كه ‌نیكو و درست ‌است، ‌انجام‌ دهند. اگر آنها این ‌را انجام ‌دهند، من ‌هرچه‌ را به ‌ابراهیم ‌وعده ‌داده‌ام، ‌انجام ‌خواهم ‌داد.»

For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

پس ‌خداوند به ‌ابراهیم‌ فرمود: «اتّهام ‌شدیدی علیه ‌سدوم ‌و غموره ‌وجود دارد و گناهان‌ آنها بسیار زیاد شده‌ است‌.

And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;

من‌ می‌روم ‌تا ببینم‌ آیا این ‌اتّهامی را كه‌ شنیده‌ام‌، درست‌ است‌؟»

I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.

سپس‌ آن ‌دو مرد آنجا را ترک‌ كردند و به‌ طرف‌ سدوم ‌رفتند ولی خداوند، نزد ابراهیم ‌ماند.

And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.

پس‌ ابراهیم ‌به‌ حضور خداوند رفت ‌و پرسید: «آیا تو واقعاً می‌خواهی بی‌گناهان ‌را با گناهكاران‌ از بین ‌ببری‌؟

And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?

اگر پنجاه ‌نفر بی‌گناه‌ در آن ‌شهر باشد آیا تو همهٔ شهر را نابود می‌كنی‌؟ آیا به‌ خاطر آن‌ پنجاه ‌نفر از نابود كردن آن‌ شهر صرف‌نظر نمی‌كنی‌؟

Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?

بدون ‌شک ‌تو بی‌گناهان ‌را با گناهكاران ‌نمی‌كشی‌. این‌ ممكن ‌نیست‌. تو نمی‌توانی چنین ‌كاری كنی. اگر بكنی بی‌گناهان ‌با گناهكاران ‌مجازات‌ خواهند شد. این ‌غیرممكن‌ است‌. داور همهٔ زمین‌ باید با انصاف ‌رفتار كند.»

That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

خداوند جواب ‌داد: «اگر من‌ پنجاه‌ نفر بی‌گناه‌ در شهر سدوم‌ پیدا كنم‌، از تقصیر تمام‌ شهر صرف‌نظر می‌كنم‌.»

And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.

ابراهیم‌ دوباره‌ گفت‌: «لطفاً از اینکه ‌جسارت‌ می‌كنم‌ و به ‌صحبت‌ خود با خداوند ادامه‌ می‌دهم‌، مرا ببخش‌. من ‌فقط ‌یک ‌انسان ‌هستم ‌و حق ‌ندارم‌ چیزی بگویم‌.

And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:

امّا شاید در آنجا به ‌جای پنجاه‌ نفر فقط ‌چهل ‌و پنج ‌نفر بی‌گناه ‌وجود داشته ‌باشد. آیا به‌خاطر اینکه پنج ‌نفر كمتر است‌ تو شهر را نابود می‌كنی‌؟» خداوند جواب داد: «من‌ اگر چهل ‌و پنج‌ نفر بی‌گناه‌ در آن‌ شهر پیدا كنم ‌شهر را نابود نخواهم‌ كرد.»

Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.

ابراهیم ‌دوباره‌ گفت‌: «شاید در آنجا فقط‌ چهل ‌نفر باشند؟» خداوند جواب داد: «اگر چهل‌ نفر هم‌ پیدا كنم‌ آن‌ را نابود نخواهم‌ كرد.»

And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake.

ابراهیم‌ گفت‌: «ای خداوند امیدوارم ‌اگر باز هم‌ چیزی می‌گویم‌ خشمگین‌ نشوی‌. اگر در آنجا فقط‌ سی نفر بی‌گناه ‌باشند چه ‌می‌شود؟» او جواب‌ داد: «اگر سی نفر هم ‌وجود داشته‌ باشند آنجا را نابود نمی‌كنم‌.»

And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.

ابراهیم‌ گفت‌: «ای خداوند لطفاً جسارت‌ مرا ببخش ‌كه‌ من ‌به‌ سخنان خود ادامه‌ می‌دهم‌. فرض‌ كنیم ‌فقط ‌بیست‌ نفر باشند؟» او فرمود: «من‌ اگر بیست‌ نفر هم ‌پیدا كنم ‌شهر را خراب ‌نمی‌كنم‌.»

And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake.

ابراهیم‌ گفت‌: «خداوندا لطفاً خشمگین ‌نشو، من‌ فقط‌ یک‌بار دیگر صحبت ‌می‌كنم‌. اگر فقط‌ ده ‌نفر پیدا شود چه‌ می‌كنی‌؟» او فرمود: «اگر من ‌در آنجا ده‌ نفر هم‌ پیدا كنم‌ آنجا را نابود نمی‌كنم‌.»

And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.

بعد از اینكه ‌صحبت ‌او با ابراهیم ‌تمام‌ شد، خداوند رفت ‌و ابراهیم ‌به ‌خانهٔ خود برگشت‌.

And the LORD went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.
