I Samuel 4

И словото на Самуил достигна до целия Израил. А Израил излезе на бой срещу филистимците и се разположи на стан при Евен-Езер; а филистимците се разположиха на стан в Афек.

And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and pitched beside Eben–ezer: and the Philistines pitched in Aphek.

И филистимците се строиха за бой срещу Израил. И битката се разрасна и Израил беше разбит пред филистимците. И те убиха около четири хиляди мъже на полесражението.

And the Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was smitten before the Philistines: and they slew of the army in the field about four thousand men.

И когато народът дойде в стана, израилевите старейшини казаха: Защо днес ГОСПОД ни разби пред филистимците? Нека вземем при себе си ковчега на ГОСПОДНИЯ завет от Сило, да дойде между нас и да ни избави от ръката на враговете ни!

And when the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the LORD smitten us to day before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us, that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies.

И народът изпрати в Сило и донесоха оттам ковчега на завета на ГОСПОДА на Войнствата, който седи на престол между херувимите. И двамата сина на Илий, Офний и Финеес, бяха там с ковчега на Божия завет.

So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubims: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

И когато ковчегът на ГОСПОДНИЯ завет дойде в стана, целият Израил извика с толкова силен вик, че земята прокънтя.

And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.

А когато филистимците чуха звука на вика, казаха: Какво означава звукът на този голям вик в стана на евреите? И разбраха, че ГОСПОДНИЯТ ковчег беше дошъл в стана.

And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, What meaneth the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews? And they understood that the ark of the LORD was come into the camp.

И филистимците се уплашиха, защото казаха: Бог е дошъл в стана! И казаха: Горко ни, защото такова нещо не е ставало никога досега!

And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore.

Горко ни! Кой ще ни избави от ръката на тези мощни богове? Тези са боговете, които поразиха египтяните с всякакви язви в пустинята.

Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty Gods? these are the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness.

Укрепете се, филистимци, и бъдете мъже, за да не станете слуги на евреите, както те бяха на вас. Затова бъдете мъже и се бийте!

Be strong, and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight.

И филистимците се биха и Израил беше разбит, и всеки побягна в шатрата си. И поражението беше много голямо, защото от Израил паднаха тридесет хиляди пешаци.

And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.

И Божият ковчег беше заловен, а двамата сина на Илий, Офний и Финеес, умряха.

And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.

Тогава един човек от Вениамин избяга от бойния ред и дойде в Сило в същия ден с раздрани дрехи и пръст на главата си.

And there ran a man of Benjamin out of the army, and came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes rent, and with earth upon his head.

И когато дойде, ето, Илий седеше на стол край пътя и гледаше, защото сърцето му трепереше за Божия ковчег. И когато човекът дойде в града, и съобщи това, целият град извика.

And when he came, lo, Eli sat upon a seat by the wayside watching: for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out.

И когато Илий чу звука на вика, каза: Какво означава звукът на тази глъчка? И човекът дойде бързо и каза на Илий.

And when Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, What meaneth the noise of this tumult? And the man came in hastily, and told Eli.

А Илий беше на деветдесет и осем години и очите му бяха отслабнали, и не можеше да вижда.

Now Eli was ninety and eight years old; and his eyes were dim, that he could not see.

И човекът каза на Илий: Аз съм този, който дойде от бойния ред; днес избягах от бойния ред. И той каза: Какво стана, сине мой?

And the man said unto Eli, I am he that came out of the army, and I fled to day out of the army. And he said, What is there done, my son?

Тогава вестоносецът отговори и каза: Израил побягна пред филистимците и стана голямо поражение сред народа; също и двамата ти сина, Офний и Финеес, са мъртви, а Божият ковчег е заловен.

And the messenger answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken.

И когато спомена за Божия ковчег, Илий падна назад от стола, отстрани на портата, и си счупи врата и умря, защото беше стар и тежък човек. Той съди Израил четиридесет години.

And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.

А снаха му, жената на Финеес, беше бременна и на път да роди. И когато чу новината, че Божият ковчег е заловен и че свекър й и мъжът й са мъртви, тя се сви и роди, защото болките й я връхлетяха.

And his daughter in law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and travailed; for her pains came upon her.

И като умираше, жените, които стояха около нея, й казаха: Не се бой, защото си родила син. Но тя не отговори и не обърна внимание.

And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for thou hast born a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it.

И нарече детето Ихавод, като каза: Славата се оттегли от Израил! — понеже Божият ковчег беше заловен и заради свекър си и мъжа си.

And she named the child I–chabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.

И тя каза: Славата се оттегли от Израил, защото Божият ковчег е заловен!

And she said, The glory is departed from Israel: for the ark of God is taken.
