Jonah 4

یہ بات یونس کو نہایت بُری لگی، اور وہ غصے ہوا۔

But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.

اُس نے رب سے دعا کی، ”اے رب، کیا یہ وہی بات نہیں جو مَیں نے اُس وقت کی جب ابھی اپنے وطن میں تھا؟ اِسی لئے مَیں اِتنی تیزی سے بھاگ کر ترسیس کے لئے روانہ ہوا تھا۔ مَیں جانتا تھا کہ تُو مہربان اور رحیم خدا ہے۔ تُو تحمل اور شفقت سے بھرپور ہے اور جلد ہی سزا دینے سے پچھتاتا ہے۔

And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.

اے رب، اب مجھے جان سے مار دے! جینے سے بہتر یہی ہے کہ مَیں کوچ کر جاؤں۔“

Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.

لیکن رب نے جواب دیا، ”کیا تُو غصے ہونے میں حق بجانب ہے؟“

Then said the LORD, Doest thou well to be angry?

یونس شہر سے نکل کر اُس کے مشرق میں رُک گیا۔ وہاں وہ اپنے لئے جھونپڑی بنا کر اُس کے سائے میں بیٹھ گیا۔ کیونکہ وہ دیکھنا چاہتا تھا کہ شہر کے ساتھ کیا کچھ ہو جائے گا۔

So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.

تب رب خدا نے ایک بیل کو پھوٹنے دیا جو بڑھتے بڑھتے یونس کے اوپر پھیل گئی تاکہ سایہ دے کر اُس کی ناراضی دُور کرے۔ یہ دیکھ کر یونس بہت خوش ہوا۔

And the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.

لیکن اگلے دن جب پَو پھٹنے لگی تو اللہ نے ایک کیڑا بھیجا جس نے بیل پر حملہ کیا۔ بیل جلد ہی مُرجھا گئی۔

But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.

جب سورج طلوع ہوا تو اللہ نے مشرق سے جُھلستی لُو بھیجی۔ دھوپ اِتنی شدید تھی کہ یونس غش کھانے لگا۔ آخرکار وہ مرنا ہی چاہتا تھا۔ وہ بولا، ”جینے سے بہتر یہی ہے کہ مَیں کوچ کر جاؤں۔“

And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

تب اللہ نے اُس سے پوچھا، ”کیا تُو بیل کے سبب سے غصے ہونے میں حق بجانب ہے؟“ یونس نے جواب دیا، ”جی ہاں، مَیں مرنے تک غصے ہوں، اور اِس میں مَیں حق بجانب بھی ہوں۔“

And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.

رب نے جواب دیا، ”تُو اِس بیل پر غم کھاتا ہے، حالانکہ تُو نے اُس کے پھلنے پھولنے کے لئے ایک اُنگلی بھی نہیں ہلائی۔ یہ بیل ایک رات میں پیدا ہوئی اور اگلی رات ختم ہوئی

Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:

جبکہ نینوہ بہت بڑا شہر ہے، اُس میں 1,20,000 افراد اور متعدد جانور بستے ہیں۔ اور یہ لوگ اِتنے جاہل ہیں کہ اپنے دائیں اور بائیں ہاتھ میں امتیاز نہیں کر پاتے۔ کیا مجھے اِس بڑے شہر پر غم نہیں کھانا چاہئے؟“

And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
