Jeremiah 13

رب مجھ سے ہم کلام ہوا، ”جا، کتان کی لنگوٹی خرید کر اُسے باندھ لے۔ لیکن وہ بھیگ نہ جائے۔“

Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

مَیں نے ایسا ہی کیا۔ لنگوٹی خرید کر مَیں نے اُسے باندھ لیا۔

So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins.

تب رب کا کلام دوبارہ مجھ پر نازل ہوا،

And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,

”اب وہ لنگوٹی لے جو تُو نے خرید کر باندھ لی ہے۔ دریائے فرات کے پاس جا کر اُسے کسی چٹان کی دراڑ میں چھپا دے۔“

Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

چنانچہ مَیں روانہ ہو کر دریائے فرات کے کنارے پہنچ گیا۔ وہاں مَیں نے لنگوٹی کو کہیں چھپا دیا جس طرح رب نے حکم دیا تھا۔

So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.

بہت دن گزر گئے۔ پھر رب مجھ سے ایک بار پھر ہم کلام ہوا، ”اُٹھ، دریائے فرات کے پاس جا کر وہ لنگوٹی نکال لا جو مَیں نے تجھے وہاں چھپانے کو کہا تھا۔“

And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.

چنانچہ مَیں روانہ ہو کر دریائے فرات کے پاس پہنچ گیا۔ وہاں مَیں نے کھود کر لنگوٹی کو اُس جگہ سے نکال لیا جہاں مَیں نے اُسے چھپا دیا تھا۔ لیکن افسوس، وہ گل سڑ گئی تھی، بالکل بےکار ہو گئی تھی۔

Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

تب رب کا کلام مجھ پر نازل ہوا،

Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

”جس طرح یہ کپڑا زمین میں دب کر گل سڑ گیا اُسی طرح مَیں یہوداہ اور یروشلم کا بڑا گھمنڈ خاک میں ملا دوں گا۔

Thus saith the LORD, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

یہ خراب لوگ میری باتیں سننے کے لئے تیار نہیں بلکہ اپنے شریر دل کی ضد کے مطابق زندگی گزارتے ہیں۔ اجنبی معبودوں کے پیچھے لگ کر یہ اُن ہی کی خدمت اور پوجا کرتے ہیں۔ لیکن اِن کا انجام لنگوٹی کی مانند ہی ہو گا۔ یہ بےکار ہو جائیں گے۔

This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

کیونکہ جس طرح لنگوٹی آدمی کی کمر کے ساتھ لپٹی رہتی ہے اُسی طرح مَیں نے پورے اسرائیل اور پورے یہوداہ کو اپنے ساتھ لپٹنے کا موقع فراہم کیا تاکہ وہ میری قوم اور میری شہرت، تعریف اور عزت کا باعث بن جائیں۔ لیکن افسوس، وہ سننے کے لئے تیار نہیں تھے۔“ یہ رب کا فرمان ہے۔

For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

”اُنہیں بتا دے کہ رب اسرائیل کا خدا فرماتا ہے، ’ہر گھڑے کو مَے سے بھرنا ہے۔‘ وہ جواب میں کہیں گے، ’ہم تو خود جانتے ہیں کہ ہر گھڑے کو مَے سے بھرنا ہے۔‘

Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

تب اُنہیں اِس کا مطلب بتا۔ ’رب فرماتا ہے کہ اِس ملک کے تمام باشندے گھڑے ہیں جنہیں مَیں مَے سے بھر دوں گا۔ داؤد کے تخت پر بیٹھنے والے بادشاہ، امام، نبی اور یروشلم کے تمام رہنے والے سب کے سب بھر بھر کر نشے میں دُھت ہو جائیں گے۔

Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

تب مَیں اُنہیں ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ ٹکرا دوں گا، اور باپ بیٹوں کے ساتھ مل کر ٹکڑے ٹکڑے ہو جائیں گے۔ نہ مَیں ترس کھاؤں گا، نہ اُن پر رحم کروں گا بلکہ ہم دردی دکھائے بغیر اُنہیں تباہ کروں گا‘۔“ یہ رب کا فرمان ہے۔

And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.

دھیان سے سنو! مغرور نہ ہو، کیونکہ رب نے خود فرمایا ہے۔

Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken.

اِس سے پہلے کہ تاریکی پھیل جائے اور تمہارے پاؤں دُھندلے پن میں پہاڑوں کے ساتھ ٹھوکر کھائیں، رب اپنے خدا کو جلال دو! کیونکہ اُس وقت گو تم روشنی کے انتظار میں رہو گے، لیکن اللہ اندھیرے کو مزید بڑھائے گا، گہری تاریکی تم پر چھا جائے گی۔

Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

لیکن اگر تم نہ سنو تو مَیں تمہارے تکبر کو دیکھ کر پوشیدگی میں گریہ و زاری کروں گا۔ مَیں زار زار روؤں گا، میری آنکھوں سے آنسو زور سے ٹپکیں گے، کیونکہ دشمن رب کے ریوڑ کو پکڑ کر جلاوطن کر دے گا۔

But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD'S flock is carried away captive.

بادشاہ اور اُس کی ماں کو اطلاع دے، ”اپنے تختوں سے اُتر کر زمین پر بیٹھ جاؤ، کیونکہ تمہاری شان کا تاج تمہارے سروں سے گر گیا ہے۔“

Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory.

دشتِ نجب کے شہر بند کئے جائیں گے، اور اُنہیں کھولنے والا کوئی نہیں ہو گا۔ پورے یہوداہ کو جلاوطن کر دیا جائے گا، ایک بھی نہیں بچے گا۔

The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none shall open them: Judah shall be carried away captive all of it, it shall be wholly carried away captive.

اے یروشلم، اپنی نظر اُٹھا کر اُنہیں دیکھ جو شمال سے آ رہے ہیں۔ اب وہ ریوڑ کہاں رہا جو تیرے سپرد کیا گیا، تیری شاندار بھیڑبکریاں کدھر ہیں؟

Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

تُو اُس دن کیا کہے گی جب رب اُنہیں تجھ پر مقرر کرے گا جنہیں تُو نے اپنے قریبی دوست بنایا تھا؟ جنم دینے والی عورت کا سا درد تجھ پر غالب آئے گا۔

What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee? for thou hast taught them to be captains, and as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?

اور اگر تیرے دل میں سوال اُبھر آئے کہ میرے ساتھ یہ کیوں ہو رہا ہے تو سن! یہ تیرے سنگین گناہوں کی وجہ سے ہو رہا ہے۔ اِن ہی کی وجہ سے تیرے کپڑے اُتارے گئے ہیں اور تیری عصمت دری ہوئی ہے۔

And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare.

کیا کالا آدمی اپنی جِلد کا رنگ یا چیتا اپنی کھال کے دھبے بدل سکتا ہے؟ ہرگز نہیں! تم بھی بدل نہیں سکتے۔ تم غلط کام کے اِتنے عادی ہو گئے ہو کہ صحیح کام کر ہی نہیں سکتے۔

Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

”جس طرح بھوسا ریگستان کی تیز ہَوا میں اُڑ کر تتر بتر ہو جاتا ہے اُسی طرح مَیں تیرے باشندوں کو منتشر کر دوں گا۔“

Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.

رب فرماتا ہے، ”یہی تیرا انجام ہو گا، مَیں نے خود مقرر کیا ہے کہ تجھے یہ اجر ملنا ہے۔ کیونکہ تُو نے مجھے بھول کر جھوٹ پر بھروسا رکھا ہے۔

This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the LORD; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.

مَیں خود تیرے کپڑے اُتاروں گا تاکہ تیری برہنگی سب کو نظر آئے۔

Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear.

مَیں نے پہاڑی اور میدانی علاقوں میں تیری گھنونی حرکتوں پر خوب دھیان دیا ہے۔ تیری زناکاری، تیرا مستانہ ہنہنانا، تیری بےشرم عصمت فروشی، سب کچھ مجھے نظر آتا ہے۔ اے یروشلم، تجھ پر افسوس! تُو پاک صاف ہو جانے کے لئے تیار نہیں۔ مزید کتنی دیر لگے گی؟“

I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, and thine abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?
