Joshua 7

But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.

لیکن جہاں تک رب کے لئے مخصوص چیزوں کا تعلق تھا اسرائیلیوں نے بےوفائی کی۔ یہوداہ کے قبیلے کے ایک آدمی نے اُن میں سے کچھ اپنے لئے لے لیا۔ اُس کا نام عکن بن کرمی بن زبدی بن زارح تھا۔ تب رب کا غضب اسرائیلیوں پر نازل ہوا۔

And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth–aven, on the east side of Beth–el, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.

یہ یوں ظاہر ہوا کہ یشوع نے کچھ آدمیوں کو یریحو سے عَی شہر کو بھیج دیا جو بیت ایل کے مشرق میں بیت آون کے قریب ہے۔ اُس نے اُن سے کہا، ”اُس علاقے میں جا کر اُس کی جاسوسی کریں۔“ چنانچہ وہ جا کر ایسا ہی کرنے لگے۔

And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.

جب واپس آئے تو اُنہوں نے یشوع سے کہا، ”اِس کی ضرورت نہیں کہ تمام لوگ عَی پر حملہ کریں۔ اُسے شکست دینے کے لئے دو یا تین ہزار مرد کافی ہیں۔ باقی لوگوں کو نہ بھیجیں ورنہ وہ خواہ مخواہ تھک جائیں گے، کیونکہ دشمن کے لوگ کم ہیں۔“

So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.

چنانچہ تقریباً تین ہزار آدمی عَی سے لڑنے گئے۔ لیکن وہ عَی کے مردوں سے شکست کھا کر فرار ہوئے،

And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.

اور اُن کے 36 افراد شہید ہوئے۔ عَی کے آدمیوں نے شہر کے دروازے سے لے کر شبریم تک اُن کا تعاقب کر کے وہاں کی ڈھلان پر اُنہیں مار ڈالا۔ تب اسرائیلی سخت گھبرا گئے، اور اُن کی ہمت جواب دے گئی۔

And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.

یشوع نے رنجش کا اظہار کر کے اپنے کپڑوں کو پھاڑ دیا اور رب کے صندوق کے سامنے منہ کے بل گر گیا۔ وہاں وہ شام تک پڑا رہا۔ اسرائیل کے بزرگوں نے بھی ایسا ہی کیا اور اپنے سر پر خاک ڈال لی۔

And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!

یشوع نے کہا، ”ہائے، اے رب قادرِ مطلق! تُو نے اِس قوم کو دریائے یردن میں سے گزرنے کیوں دیا اگر تیرا مقصد صرف یہ تھا کہ ہمیں اموریوں کے حوالے کر کے ہلاک کرے؟ کاش ہم دریا کے مشرقی کنارے پر رہنے کے لئے تیار ہوتے!

O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!

اے رب، اب مَیں کیا کہوں جب اسرائیل اپنے دشمنوں کے سامنے سے بھاگ آیا ہے؟

For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?

کنعانی اور ملک کی باقی قومیں یہ سن کر ہمیں گھیر لیں گی اور ہمارا نام و نشان مٹا دیں گی۔ اگر ایسا ہو گا تو پھر تُو خود اپنا عظیم نام قائم رکھنے کے لئے کیا کرے گا؟“

And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?

جواب میں رب نے یشوع سے کہا، ”اُٹھ کر کھڑا ہو جا! تُو کیوں منہ کے بل پڑا ہے؟

Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.

اسرائیل نے گناہ کیا ہے۔ اُنہوں نے میرے عہد کی خلاف ورزی کی ہے جو مَیں نے اُن کے ساتھ باندھا تھا۔ اُنہوں نے مخصوص شدہ چیزوں میں سے کچھ لے لیا ہے، اور چوری کر کے چپکے سے اپنے سامان میں ملا لیا ہے۔

Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.

اِسی لئے اسرائیلی اپنے دشمنوں کے سامنے قائم نہیں رہ سکتے بلکہ پیٹھ پھیر کر بھاگ رہے ہیں۔ کیونکہ اِس حرکت سے اسرائیل نے اپنے آپ کو بھی ہلاکت کے لئے مخصوص کر لیا ہے۔ جب تک تم اپنے درمیان سے وہ کچھ نکال کر تباہ نہ کر لو جو تباہی کے لئے مخصوص ہے اُس وقت تک مَیں تمہارے ساتھ نہیں ہوں گا۔

Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.

اب اُٹھ اور لوگوں کو میرے لئے مخصوص و مُقدّس کر۔ اُنہیں بتا دینا، ’اپنے آپ کو کل کے لئے مخصوص و مُقدّس کرنا، کیونکہ رب جو اسرائیل کا خدا ہے فرماتا ہے کہ اے اسرائیل، تیرے درمیان ایسا مال ہے جو میرے لئے مخصوص ہے۔ جب تک تم اُسے اپنے درمیان سے نکال نہ دو اپنے دشمنوں کے سامنے قائم نہیں رہ سکو گے۔‘

In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the LORD taketh shall come according to the families thereof; and the family which the LORD shall take shall come by households; and the household which the LORD shall take shall come man by man.

کل صبح کو ہر ایک قبیلہ اپنے آپ کو پیش کرے۔ رب ظاہر کرے گا کہ قصوروار شخص کون سے قبیلے کا ہے۔ پھر اُس قبیلے کے کنبے باری باری سامنے آئیں۔ جس کنبے کو رب قصوروار ٹھہرائے گا اُس کے مختلف خاندان سامنے آئیں۔ اور جس خاندان کو رب قصوروار ٹھرائے گا اُس کے مختلف افراد سامنے آئیں۔

And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.

جو رب کے لئے مخصوص مال کے ساتھ پکڑا جائے گا اُسے اُس کی ملکیت سمیت جلا دینا ہے، کیونکہ اُس نے رب کے عہد کی خلاف ورزی کر کے اسرائیل میں شرم ناک کام کیا ہے۔“

So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:

اگلے دن صبح سویرے یشوع نے قبیلوں کو باری باری اپنے پاس آنے دیا۔ جب یہوداہ کے قبیلے کی باری آئی تو رب نے اُسے قصوروار ٹھہرایا۔

And he brought the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zarhites: and he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:

جب اُس قبیلے کے مختلف کنبے سامنے آئے تو رب نے زارح کے کنبے کو قصوروار ٹھہرایا۔ جب زارح کے مختلف خاندان سامنے آئے تو رب نے زبدی کا خاندان قصوروار ٹھہرایا۔

And he brought his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.

آخرکار یشوع نے اُس خاندان کو فرداً فرداً اپنے پاس آنے دیا، اور عکن بن کرمی بن زبدی بن زارح پکڑا گیا۔

And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.

یشوع نے اُس سے کہا، ”بیٹا، رب اسرائیل کے خدا کو جلال دو اور اُس کی ستائش کرو۔ مجھے بتا دو کہ تم نے کیا کِیا۔ کوئی بھی بات مجھ سے مت چھپانا۔“

And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:

عکن نے جواب دیا، ”واقعی مَیں نے رب اسرائیل کے خدا کا گناہ کیا ہے۔

When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.

مَیں نے لُوٹے ہوئے مال میں سے بابل کا ایک شاندار چوغہ، تقریباً سوا دو کلو گرام چاندی اور آدھے کلو گرام سے زائد سونے کی اینٹ لے لی تھی۔ یہ چیزیں دیکھ کر مَیں نے اُن کا لالچ کیا اور اُنہیں لے لیا۔ اب وہ میرے خیمے کی زمین میں دبی ہوئی ہیں۔ چاندی کو مَیں نے باقی چیزوں کے نیچے چھپا دیا۔“

So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.

یہ سن کر یشوع نے اپنے بندوں کو عکن کے خیمے کے پاس بھیج دیا۔ وہ دوڑ کر وہاں پہنچے تو دیکھا کہ یہ مال واقعی خیمے کی زمین میں چھپایا ہوا ہے اور کہ چاندی دوسری چیزوں کے نیچے پڑی ہے۔

And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the LORD.

وہ یہ سب کچھ خیمے سے نکال کر یشوع اور تمام اسرائیلیوں کے پاس لے آئے اور رب کے سامنے رکھ دیا۔

And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor.

پھر یشوع اور تمام اسرائیلی عکن بن زارح کو پکڑ کر وادیِ عکور میں لے گئے۔ اُنہوں نے چاندی، لباس، سونے کی اینٹ، عکن کے بیٹے بیٹیوں، گائےبَیلوں، گدھوں، بھیڑبکریوں اور اُس کے خیمے غرض اُس کی پوری ملکیت کو اُس وادی میں پہنچا دیا۔

And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.

یشوع نے کہا، ”تم یہ آفت ہم پر کیوں لائے ہو؟ آج رب تم پر ہی آفت لائے گا۔“ پھر پورے اسرائیل نے عکن کو اُس کے گھر والوں سمیت سنگسار کر کے جلا دیا۔

And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.

عکن کے اوپر اُنہوں نے پتھروں کا بڑا ڈھیر لگا دیا جو آج تک وہاں موجود ہے۔ یہی وجہ ہے کہ آج تک اُس کا نام وادیِ عکور یعنی آفت کی وادی رہا ہے۔ اِس کے بعد رب کا سخت غضب ٹھنڈا ہو گیا۔
