Joshua 3

And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.

صبح سویرے اُٹھ کر یشوع اور تمام اسرائیلی شِطّیم سے روانہ ہوئے۔ جب وہ دریائے یردن پہنچے تو اُسے عبور نہ کیا بلکہ رات کے لئے کنارے پر رُک گئے۔

And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host;

وہ تین دن وہاں رہے۔ پھر نگہبانوں نے خیمہ گاہ میں سے گزر کر

And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.

لوگوں کو حکم دیا، ”جب آپ دیکھیں کہ لاوی کے قبیلے کے امام رب آپ کے خدا کے عہد کا صندوق اُٹھائے ہوئے ہیں تو اپنے اپنے مقام سے روانہ ہو کر اُس کے پیچھے ہو لیں۔

Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.

پھر آپ کو پتا چلے گا کہ کہاں جانا ہے، کیونکہ آپ پہلے کبھی وہاں نہیں گئے۔ لیکن صندوق کے تقریباً ایک کلو میٹر پیچھے رہیں اور زیادہ قریب نہ جائیں۔“

And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.

یشوع نے لوگوں کو بتایا، ”اپنے آپ کو مخصوص و مُقدّس کریں، کیونکہ کل رب آپ کے درمیان حیرت انگیز کام کرے گا۔“

And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.

اگلے دن یشوع نے اماموں سے کہا، ”عہد کا صندوق اُٹھا کر لوگوں کے آگے آگے دریا کو پار کریں۔“ چنانچہ امام صندوق کو اُٹھا کر آگے آگے چل دیئے۔

And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.

اور رب نے یشوع سے فرمایا، ”مَیں تجھے تمام اسرائیلیوں کے سامنے سرفراز کر دوں گا، اور آج ہی مَیں یہ کام شروع کروں گا تاکہ وہ جان لیں کہ جس طرح مَیں موسیٰ کے ساتھ تھا اُسی طرح تیرے ساتھ بھی ہوں۔

And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.

عہد کا صندوق اُٹھانے والے اماموں کو بتا دینا، ’جب آپ دریائے یردن کے کنارے پہنچیں گے تو وہاں پانی میں رُک جائیں‘۔“

And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the LORD your God.

یشوع نے اسرائیلیوں سے کہا، ”میرے پاس آئیں اور رب اپنے خدا کے فرمان سن لیں۔

And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.

آج آپ جان لیں گے کہ زندہ خدا آپ کے درمیان ہے اور کہ وہ یقیناً آپ کے آگے آگے جا کر دوسری قوموں کو نکال دے گا، خواہ وہ کنعانی، حِتّی، حِوّی، فرِزّی، جرجاسی، اموری یا یبوسی ہوں۔

Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan.

یہ یوں ظاہر ہو گا کہ عہد کا یہ صندوق جو تمام دنیا کے مالک کا ہے آپ کے آگے آگے دریائے یردن میں جائے گا۔

Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of every tribe a man.

اب ایسا کریں کہ ہر قبیلے میں سے ایک ایک آدمی کو چن لیں تاکہ بارہ افراد جمع ہو جائیں۔

And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.

پھر امام تمام دنیا کے مالک رب کے عہد کا صندوق اُٹھا کر دریا میں جائیں گے۔ اور جوں ہی وہ اپنے پاؤں پانی میں رکھیں گے تو پانی کا بہاؤ رُک جائے گا اور آنے والا پانی ڈھیر بن کر کھڑا رہے گا۔“

And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;

چنانچہ اسرائیلی اپنے خیموں کو سمیٹ کر روانہ ہوئے، اور عہد کا صندوق اُٹھانے والے امام اُن کے آگے آگے چل دیئے۔

And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)

فصل کی کٹائی کا موسم تھا، اور دریا کا پانی کناروں سے باہر آ گیا تھا۔ لیکن جوں ہی صندوق کو اُٹھانے والے اماموں نے دریا کے کنارے پہنچ کر پانی میں قدم رکھا

That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

تو آنے والے پانی کا بہاؤ رُک گیا۔ وہ اُن سے دُور ایک شہر کے قریب ڈھیر بن گیا جس کا نام آدم تھا اور جو ضرتان کے نزدیک ہے۔ جو پانی دوسری یعنی بحیرۂ مُردار کی طرف بہہ رہا تھا وہ پوری طرح اُتر گیا۔ تب اسرائیلیوں نے یریحو شہر کے مقابل دریا کو پار کیا۔

And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.

رب کا عہد کا صندوق اُٹھانے والے امام دریائے یردن کے بیچ میں خشک زمین پر کھڑے رہے جبکہ باقی لوگ خشک زمین پر سے گزر گئے۔ امام اُس وقت تک وہاں کھڑے رہے جب تک تمام اسرائیلیوں نے خشک زمین پر چل کر دریا کو پار نہ کر لیا۔
