Joshua 2

And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there.

پھر یشوع نے چپکے سے دو جاسوسوں کو شِطّیم سے بھیج دیا جہاں اسرائیلی خیمہ گاہ تھی۔ اُس نے اُن سے کہا، ”جا کر ملک کا جائزہ لیں، خاص کر یریحو شہر کا۔“ وہ روانہ ہوئے اور چلتے چلتے ایک کسبی کے گھر پہنچے جس کا نام راحب تھا۔ وہاں وہ رات کے لئے ٹھہر گئے۔

And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.

لیکن یریحو کے بادشاہ کو اطلاع ملی کہ آج شام کو کچھ اسرائیلی مرد یہاں پہنچ گئے ہیں جو ملک کی جاسوسی کرنا چاہتے ہیں۔

And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.

یہ سن کر بادشاہ نے راحب کو خبر بھیجی، ”اُن آدمیوں کو نکال دو جو تمہارے پاس آ کر ٹھہرے ہوئے ہیں، کیونکہ یہ پورے ملک کی جاسوسی کرنے کے لئے آئے ہیں۔“

And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:

لیکن راحب نے دونوں آدمیوں کو چھپا رکھا تھا۔ اُس نے کہا، ”جی، یہ آدمی میرے پاس آئے تو تھے لیکن مجھے معلوم نہیں تھا کہ کہاں سے آئے ہیں۔

And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.

جب دن ڈھلنے لگا اور شہر کے دروازوں کو بند کرنے کا وقت آ گیا تو وہ چلے گئے۔ مجھے معلوم نہیں کہ کس طرف گئے۔ اب جلدی کر کے اُن کا پیچھا کریں۔ عین ممکن ہے کہ آپ اُنہیں پکڑ لیں۔“

But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.

حقیقت میں راحب نے اُنہیں چھت پر لے جا کر وہاں پر پڑے سَن کے ڈنٹھلوں کے نیچے چھپا دیا تھا۔

And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.

راحب کی بات سن کر بادشاہ کے آدمی وہاں سے چلے گئے اور شہر سے نکل کر جاسوسوں کے تعاقب میں اُس راستے پر چلنے لگے جو دریائے یردن کے اُن کم گہرے مقاموں تک لے جاتا ہے جہاں اُسے پیدل عبور کیا جا سکتا تھا۔ اور جوں ہی یہ آدمی نکلے، شہر کا دروازہ اُن کے پیچھے بند کر دیا گیا۔

And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;

جاسوسوں کے سو جانے سے پہلے راحب نے چھت پر آ کر

And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.

اُن سے کہا، ”مَیں جانتی ہوں کہ رب نے یہ ملک آپ کو دے دیا ہے۔ آپ کے بارے میں سن کر ہم پر دہشت چھا گئی ہے، اور ملک کے تمام باشندے ہمت ہار گئے ہیں۔

For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.

کیونکہ ہمیں خبر ملی ہے کہ آپ کے مصر سے نکلتے وقت رب نے بحرِ قُلزم کا پانی کس طرح آپ کے آگے خشک کر دیا۔ یہ بھی ہمارے سننے میں آیا ہے کہ آپ نے دریائے یردن کے مشرق میں رہنے والے دو بادشاہوں سیحون اور عوج کے ساتھ کیا کچھ کیا، کہ آپ نے اُنہیں پوری طرح تباہ کر دیا۔

And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.

یہ سن کر ہماری ہمت ٹوٹ گئی۔ آپ کے سامنے ہم سب حوصلہ ہار گئے ہیں، کیونکہ رب آپ کا خدا آسمان و زمین کا خدا ہے۔

Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token:

اب رب کی قَسم کھا کر مجھ سے وعدہ کریں کہ آپ اُسی طرح میرے خاندان پر مہربانی کریں گے جس طرح کہ مَیں نے آپ پر کی ہے۔ اور ضمانت کے طور پر مجھے کوئی نشان دیں

And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.

کہ آپ میرے ماں باپ، میرے بہن بھائیوں اور اُن کے گھر والوں کو زندہ چھوڑ کر ہمیں موت سے بچائے رکھیں گے۔“

And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.

آدمیوں نے کہا، ”ہم اپنی جانوں کو ضمانت کے طور پر پیش کرتے ہیں کہ آپ محفوظ رہیں گے۔ اگر آپ کسی کو ہمارے بارے میں اطلاع نہ دیں تو ہم آپ سے ضرور مہربانی اور وفاداری سے پیش آئیں گے جب رب ہمیں یہ ملک عطا فرمائے گا۔“

Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.

تب راحب نے شہر سے نکلنے میں اُن کی مدد کی۔ چونکہ اُس کا گھر شہر کی چاردیواری سے ملحق تھا اِس لئے آدمی کھڑکی سے نکل کر رسّے کے ذریعے باہر کی زمین پر اُتر آئے۔

And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.

اُترنے سے پہلے راحب نے اُنہیں ہدایت کی، ”پہاڑی علاقے کی طرف چلے جائیں۔ جو آپ کا تعاقب کر رہے ہیں وہ وہاں آپ کو ڈھونڈ نہیں سکیں گے۔ تین دن تک یعنی جب تک وہ واپس نہ آ جائیں وہاں چھپے رہنا۔ اِس کے بعد جہاں جانے کا ارادہ ہے چلے جانا۔“

And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.

آدمیوں نے اُس سے کہا، ”جو قَسم آپ نے ہمیں کھلائی ہے ہم ضرور اُس کے پابند رہیں گے۔ لیکن شرط یہ ہے

Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee.

کہ آپ ہمارے اِس ملک میں آتے وقت قرمزی رنگ کا یہ رسّا اُس کھڑکی کے سامنے باندھ دیں جس میں سے آپ نے ہمیں اُترنے دیا ہے۔ یہ بھی لازم ہے کہ اُس وقت آپ کے ماں باپ، بھائی بہنیں اور تمام گھر والے آپ کے گھر میں ہوں۔

And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.

اگر کوئی آپ کے گھر میں سے نکلے اور مار دیا جائے تو یہ ہمارا قصور نہیں ہو گا، ہم ذمہ دار نہیں ٹھہریں گے۔ لیکن اگر کسی کو ہاتھ لگایا جائے جو آپ کے گھر کے اندر ہو تو ہم ہی اُس کی موت کے ذمہ دار ٹھہریں گے۔

And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

اور کسی کو ہمارے معاملے کے بارے میں اطلاع نہ دینا، ورنہ ہم اُس قَسم سے آزاد ہیں جو آپ نے ہمیں کھلائی۔“

And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.

راحب نے جواب دیا، ”ٹھیک ہے، ایسا ہی ہو۔“ پھر اُس نے اُنہیں رُخصت کیا اور وہ روانہ ہوئے۔ اور راحب نے اپنی کھڑکی کے ساتھ مذکورہ رسّا باندھ دیا۔

And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.

جاسوس چلتے چلتے پہاڑی علاقے میں آ گئے۔ وہاں وہ تین دن رہے۔ اِتنے میں اُن کا تعاقب کرنے والے پورے راستے کا کھوج لگا کر خالی ہاتھ لوٹے۔

So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:

پھر دونوں جاسوسوں نے پہاڑی علاقے سے اُتر کر دریائے یردن کو پار کیا اور یشوع بن نون کے پاس آ کر سب کچھ بیان کیا جو اُن کے ساتھ ہوا تھا۔

And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.

اُنہوں نے کہا، ”یقیناً رب نے ہمیں پورا ملک دے دیا ہے۔ ہمارے بارے میں سن کر ملک کے تمام باشندوں پر دہشت طاری ہو گئی ہے۔“
