Joshua 24

And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.

پھر یشوع نے اسرائیل کے تمام قبیلوں کو سِکم شہر میں جمع کیا۔ اُس نے اسرائیل کے بزرگوں، سرداروں، قاضیوں اور نگہبانوں کو بُلایا، اور وہ مل کر اللہ کے حضور حاضر ہوئے۔

And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.

پھر یشوع اسرائیلی قوم سے مخاطب ہوا۔ ”رب اسرائیل کا خدا فرماتا ہے، ’قدیم زمانے میں تمہارے باپ دادا دریائے فرات کے پار بستے اور دیگر معبودوں کی پوجا کرتے تھے۔ ابراہیم اور نحور کا باپ تارح بھی وہاں آباد تھا۔

And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.

لیکن مَیں تمہارے باپ ابراہیم کو وہاں سے لے کر یہاں لایا اور اُسے پورے ملکِ کنعان میں سے گزرنے دیا۔ مَیں نے اُسے بہت اولاد دی۔ مَیں نے اُسے اسحاق دیا

And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.

اور اسحاق کو یعقوب اور عیسَو۔ عیسَو کو مَیں نے پہاڑی علاقہ سعیر عطا کیا، لیکن یعقوب اپنے بیٹوں کے ساتھ مصر چلا گیا۔

I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out.

بعد میں مَیں نے موسیٰ اور ہارون کو مصر بھیج دیا اور ملک پر بڑی مصیبتیں نازل کر کے تمہیں وہاں سے نکال لایا۔

And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Red sea.

چلتے چلتے تمہارے باپ دادا بحرِ قُلزم پہنچ گئے۔ لیکن مصری اپنے رتھوں اور گھڑسواروں سے اُن کا تعاقب کرنے لگے۔

And when they cried unto the LORD, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.

تمہارے باپ دادا نے مدد کے لئے رب کو پکارا، اور مَیں نے اُن کے اور مصریوں کے درمیان اندھیرا پیدا کیا۔ مَیں سمندر اُن پر چڑھا لایا، اور وہ اُس میں غرق ہو گئے۔ تمہارے باپ دادا نے اپنی ہی آنکھوں سے دیکھا کہ مَیں نے مصریوں کے ساتھ کیا کچھ کیا۔ تم بڑے عرصے تک ریگستان میں گھومتے پھرے۔

And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you.

آخرکار مَیں نے تمہیں اُن اموریوں کے ملک میں پہنچایا جو دریائے یردن کے مشرق میں آباد تھے۔ گو اُنہوں نے تم سے جنگ کی، لیکن مَیں نے اُنہیں تمہارے ہاتھ میں کر دیا۔ تمہارے آگے آگے چل کر مَیں نے اُنہیں نیست و نابود کر دیا، اِس لئے تم اُن کے ملک پر قبضہ کر سکے۔

Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you:

موآب کے بادشاہ بلق بن صفور نے بھی اسرائیل کے ساتھ جنگ چھیڑی۔ اِس مقصد کے تحت اُس نے بلعام بن بعور کو بُلایا تاکہ وہ تم پر لعنت بھیجے۔

But I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand.

لیکن مَیں بلعام کی بات ماننے کے لئے تیار نہیں تھا بلکہ وہ تمہیں برکت دینے پر مجبور ہوا۔ یوں مَیں نے تمہیں اُس کے ہاتھ سے محفوظ رکھا۔

And ye went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand.

پھر تم دریائے یردن کو پار کر کے یریحو کے پاس پہنچ گئے۔ اِس شہر کے باشندے اور اموری، فرِزّی، کنعانی، حِتّی، جرجاسی، حِوّی اور یبوسی تمہارے خلاف لڑتے رہے، لیکن مَیں نے اُنہیں تمہارے قبضے میں کر دیا۔

And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.

مَیں نے تمہارے آگے زنبور بھیج دیئے جنہوں نے اموریوں کے دو بادشاہوں کو ملک سے نکال دیا۔ یہ سب کچھ تمہاری اپنی تلوار اور کمان سے نہیں ہوا بلکہ میرے ہی ہاتھ سے۔

And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.

مَیں نے تمہیں بیج بونے کے لئے زمین دی جسے تیار کرنے کے لئے تمہیں محنت نہ کرنی پڑی۔ مَیں نے تمہیں شہر دیئے جو تمہیں تعمیر کرنے نہ پڑے۔ اُن میں رہ کر تم انگور اور زیتون کے ایسے باغوں کا پھل کھاتے ہو جو تم نے نہیں لگائے تھے‘۔“

Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.

یشوع نے بات جاری رکھتے ہوئے کہا، ”چنانچہ رب کا خوف مانیں اور پوری وفاداری کے ساتھ اُس کی خدمت کریں۔ اُن بُتوں کو نکال پھینکیں جن کی پوجا آپ کے باپ دادا دریائے فرات کے پار اور مصر میں کرتے رہے۔ اب رب ہی کی خدمت کریں!

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

لیکن اگر رب کی خدمت کرنا آپ کو بُرا لگے تو آج ہی فیصلہ کریں کہ کس کی خدمت کریں گے، اُن دیوتاؤں کی جن کی پوجا آپ کے باپ دادا نے دریائے فرات کے پار کی یا اموریوں کے دیوتاؤں کی جن کے ملک میں آپ رہ رہے ہیں۔ لیکن جہاں تک میرا اور میرے خاندان کا تعلق ہے ہم رب ہی کی خدمت کریں گے۔“

And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;

عوام نے جواب دیا، ”ایسا کبھی نہ ہو کہ ہم رب کو ترک کر کے دیگر معبودوں کی پوجا کریں۔

For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:

رب ہمارا خدا ہی ہمارے باپ دادا کو مصر کی غلامی سے نکال لایا اور ہماری آنکھوں کے سامنے ایسے عظیم نشان پیش کئے۔ جب ہمیں بہت قوموں میں سے گزرنا پڑا تو اُسی نے ہر وقت ہماری حفاظت کی۔

And the LORD drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the LORD; for he is our God.

اور رب ہی نے ہمارے آگے آگے چل کر اِس ملک میں آباد اموریوں اور باقی قوموں کو نکال دیا۔ ہم بھی اُسی کی خدمت کریں گے، کیونکہ وہی ہمارا خدا ہے!“

And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.

یہ سن کر یشوع نے کہا، ”آپ رب کی خدمت کر ہی نہیں سکتے، کیونکہ وہ قدوس اور غیور خدا ہے۔ وہ آپ کی سرکشی اور گناہوں کو معاف نہیں کرے گا۔

If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.

بےشک وہ آپ پر مہربانی کرتا رہا ہے، لیکن اگر آپ رب کو ترک کر کے اجنبی معبودوں کی پوجا کریں تو وہ آپ کے خلاف ہو کر آپ پر بلائیں لائے گا اور آپ کو نیست و نابود کر دے گا۔“

And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the LORD.

لیکن اسرائیلیوں نے اصرار کیا، ”جی نہیں، ہم رب کی خدمت کریں گے!“

And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the LORD, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.

پھر یشوع نے کہا، ”آپ خود اِس کے گواہ ہیں کہ آپ نے رب کی خدمت کرنے کا فیصلہ کر لیا ہے۔“ اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”جی ہاں، ہم اِس کے گواہ ہیں!“

Now therefore put away, said he, the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel.

یشوع نے کہا، ”تو پھر اپنے درمیان موجود بُتوں کو تباہ کر دیں اور اپنے دلوں کو رب اسرائیل کے خدا کے تابع رکھیں۔“

And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.

عوام نے یشوع سے کہا، ”ہم رب اپنے خدا کی خدمت کریں گے اور اُسی کی سنیں گے۔“

So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.

اُس دن یشوع نے اسرائیلیوں کے لئے رب سے عہد باندھا۔ وہاں سِکم میں اُس نے اُنہیں احکام اور قواعد دے کر

And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD.

اللہ کی شریعت کی کتاب میں درج کئے۔ پھر اُس نے ایک بڑا پتھر لے کر اُسے اُس بلوط کے سائے میں کھڑا کیا جو رب کے مقدِس کے پاس تھا۔

And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the LORD which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.

اُس نے تمام لوگوں سے کہا، ”اِس پتھر کو دیکھیں! یہ گواہ ہے، کیونکہ اِس نے سب کچھ سن لیا ہے جو رب نے ہمیں بتا دیا ہے۔ اگر آپ کبھی اللہ کا انکار کریں تو یہ تمہارے خلاف گواہی دے گا۔“

So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.

پھر یشوع نے اسرائیلیوں کو فارغ کر دیا، اور ہر ایک اپنے اپنے قبائلی علاقے میں چلا گیا۔

And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.

کچھ دیر کے بعد رب کا خادم یشوع بن نون فوت ہوا۔ اُس کی عمر 110 سال تھی۔

And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath–serah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash.

اُسے اُس کی موروثی زمین میں دفنایا گیا، یعنی تِمنت سِرح میں جو افرائیم کے پہاڑی علاقے میں جعس پہاڑ کے شمال میں ہے۔

And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the LORD, that he had done for Israel.

جب تک یشوع اور وہ بزرگ زندہ رہے جنہوں نے اپنی آنکھوں سے سب کچھ دیکھا تھا جو رب نے اسرائیل کے لئے کیا تھا اُس وقت تک اسرائیل رب کا وفادار رہا۔

And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.

مصر کو چھوڑتے وقت اسرائیلی یوسف کی ہڈیاں اپنے ساتھ لائے تھے۔ اب اُنہوں نے اُنہیں سِکم شہر کی اُس زمین میں دفن کر دیا جو یعقوب نے سِکم کے باپ حمور کی اولاد سے چاندی کے سَو سِکوں کے بدلے خرید لی تھی۔ یہ زمین یوسف کی اولاد کی وراثت میں آ گئی تھی۔

And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a hill that pertained to Phinehas his son, which was given him in mount Ephraim.

اِلی عزر بن ہارون بھی فوت ہوا۔ اُسے جِبعہ میں دفنایا گیا۔ افرائیم کے پہاڑی علاقے کا یہ شہر اُس کے بیٹے فینحاس کو دیا گیا تھا۔
