Habakkuk 2

I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

اب مَیں پہرا دینے کے لئے اپنی بُرجی پر چڑھ جاؤں گا، قلعے کی اونچی جگہ پر کھڑا ہو کر چاروں طرف دیکھتا رہوں گا۔ کیونکہ مَیں جاننا چاہتا ہوں کہ اللہ مجھے کیا کچھ بتائے گا، کہ وہ میری شکایت کا کیا جواب دے گا۔

And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

رب نے مجھے جواب دیا، ”جو کچھ تُو نے رویا میں دیکھا ہے اُسے تختوں پر یوں لکھ دے کہ ہر گزرنے والا اُسے روانی سے پڑھ سکے۔

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

کیونکہ وہ فوراً پوری نہیں ہو جائے گی بلکہ مقررہ وقت پر آخرکار ظاہر ہو گی، وہ جھوٹی ثابت نہیں ہو گی۔ گو دیر بھی لگے توبھی صبر کر۔ کیونکہ آنے والا پہنچے گا، وہ دیر نہیں کرے گا۔

Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

مغرور آدمی پھولا ہوا ہے اور اندر سے سیدھی راہ پر نہیں چلتا۔ لیکن راست باز ایمان ہی سے جیتا رہے گا۔

Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:

یقیناً مَے ایک بےوفا ساتھی ہے۔ مغرور شخص جیتا نہیں رہے گا، گو وہ اپنے منہ کو پاتال کی طرح کھلا رکھتا اور اُس کی بھوک موت کی طرح کبھی نہیں مٹتی، وہ تمام اقوام اور اُمّتیں اپنے پاس جمع کرتا ہے۔

Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!

لیکن یہ سب اُس کا مذاق اُڑا کر اُسے لعن طعن کریں گی۔ وہ کہیں گی، ’اُس پر افسوس جو دوسروں کی چیزیں چھین کر اپنی ملکیت میں اضافہ کرتا ہے، جو قرض داروں کی ضمانت پر قبضہ کرنے سے دولت مند ہو گیا ہے۔ یہ کارروائی کب تک جاری رہے گی؟‘

Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?

کیونکہ اچانک ہی ایسے لوگ اُٹھیں گے جو تجھے کاٹیں گے، ایسے لوگ جاگ اُٹھیں گے جن کے سامنے تُو تھرتھرانے لگے گا۔ تب تُو خود اُن کا شکار بن جائے گا۔

Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

چونکہ تُو نے دیگر متعدد اقوام کو لُوٹ لیا ہے اِس لئے اب بچی ہوئی اُمّتیں تجھے ہی لُوٹ لیں گی۔ کیونکہ تجھ سے قتل و غارت سرزد ہوئی ہے، تُو نے دیہات اور شہر پر اُن کے باشندوں سمیت شدید ظلم کیا ہے۔

Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!

اُس پر افسوس جو ناجائز نفع کما کر اپنے گھر پر آفت لاتا ہے، حالانکہ وہ آفت سے بچنے کے لئے اپنا گھونسلا بلندیوں پر بنا لیتا ہے۔

Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul.

تیرے منصوبوں سے متعدد قومیں تباہ ہوئی ہیں، لیکن یہ تیرے ہی گھرانے کے لئے شرم کا باعث بن گیا ہے۔ اِس گناہ سے تُو اپنے آپ پر موت کی سزا لایا ہے۔

For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.

یقیناً دیواروں کے پتھر چیخ کر التجا کریں گے اور لکڑی کے شہتیر جواب میں آہ و زاری کریں گے۔

Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity!

اُس پر افسوس جو شہر کو قتل و غارت کے ذریعے تعمیر کرتا، جو آبادی کو ناانصافی کی بنیاد پر قائم کرتا ہے۔

Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?

رب الافواج نے مقرر کیا ہے کہ جو کچھ قوموں نے بڑی محنت مشقت سے حاصل کیا اُسے نذرِ آتش ہونا ہے، جو کچھ پانے کے لئے اُمّتیں تھک جاتی ہیں وہ بےکار ہی ہے۔

For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

کیونکہ جس طرح سمندر پانی سے بھرا ہوا ہے، اُسی طرح دنیا ایک دن رب کے جلال کے عرفان سے بھر جائے گی۔

Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!

اُس پر افسوس جو اپنا پیالہ زہریلی شراب سے بھر کر اُسے اپنے پڑوسیوں کو پلا دیتا ہے تاکہ اُنہیں نشے میں لا کر اُن کی برہنگی سے لطف اندوز ہو جائے۔

Thou art filled with shame for glory: drink thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered: the cup of the LORD'S right hand shall be turned unto thee, and shameful spewing shall be on thy glory.

لیکن اب تیری باری بھی آ گئی ہے! تیری شان و شوکت ختم ہو جائے گی، اور تیرا منہ کالا ہو جائے گا۔ اب خود پی لے! نشے میں آ کر اپنے کپڑے اُتار لے۔ غضب کا جو پیالہ رب کے دہنے ہاتھ میں ہے وہ تیرے پاس بھی پہنچے گا۔ تب تیری اِتنی رُسوائی ہو جائے گی کہ تیری شان کا نام و نشان تک نہیں رہے گا۔

For the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

جو ظلم تُو نے لبنان پر کیا وہ تجھ پر ہی غالب آئے گا، جن جانوروں کو تُو نے وہاں تباہ کیا اُن کی دہشت تجھ ہی پر طاری ہو جائے گی۔ کیونکہ تجھ سے قتل و غارت سرزد ہوئی ہے، تُو نے دیہات اور شہروں پر اُن کے باشندوں سمیت شدید ظلم کیا ہے۔

What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?

بُت کا کیا فائدہ؟ آخر کسی ماہر کاری گر نے اُسے تراشا یا ڈھال لیا ہے، اور وہ جھوٹ ہی جھوٹ کی ہدایات دیتا ہے۔ کاری گر اپنے ہاتھوں کے بُت پر بھروسا رکھتا ہے، حالانکہ وہ بول بھی نہیں سکتا!

Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

اُس پر افسوس جو لکڑی سے کہتا ہے، ’جاگ اُٹھ!‘ اور خاموش پتھر سے، ’کھڑا ہو جا!‘ کیا یہ چیزیں ہدایت دے سکتی ہیں؟ ہرگز نہیں! اُن میں جان ہی نہیں، خواہ اُن پر سونا یا چاندی کیوں نہ چڑھائی گئی ہو۔

But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

لیکن رب اپنے مُقدّس گھر میں موجود ہے۔ اُس کے حضور پوری دنیا خاموش رہے۔“
