Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves' eyes within thy locks: thy hair is as a flock of goats, that appear from mount Gilead.

Siehe, du bist schön, meine Freundin, siehe, du bist schön: Deine Augen sind Tauben hinter deinem Schleier. Dein Haar ist wie eine Herde Ziegen, die an den Abhängen des Gebirges Gilead lagern.

Thy teeth are like a flock of sheep that are even shorn, which came up from the washing; whereof every one bear twins, and none is barren among them.

Deine Zähne sind wie eine Herde geschorener Schafe, die aus der Schwemme heraufkommen, welche allzumal Zwillinge gebären, und keines unter ihnen ist unfruchtbar.

Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet, and thy speech is comely: thy temples are like a piece of a pomegranate within thy locks.

Deine Lippen sind wie eine Karmesinschnur, und dein Mund ist zierlich. Wie ein Schnittstück einer Granate ist deine Schläfe hinter deinem Schleier.

Thy neck is like the tower of David builded for an armoury, whereon there hang a thousand bucklers, all shields of mighty men.

Dein Hals ist wie der Turm Davids, der in Terrassen gebaut ist: tausend Schilde hängen daran, alle Schilde der Helden.

Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which feed among the lilies.

Deine beiden Brüste sind wie ein Zwillingspaar junger Gazellen, die unter den Lilien weiden. -

Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense.

Bis der Tag sich kühlt und die Schatten fliehen, will ich zum Myrrhenberge hingehen und zum Weihrauchhügel. -

Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee.

"Ganz schön bist du, meine Freundin, und kein Makel ist an dir.

Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions' dens, from the mountains of the leopards.

Mit mir vom Libanon herab, meine Braut, mit mir vom Libanon sollst du kommen; vom Gipfel des Amana herab sollst du schauen, vom Gipfel des Senir und Hermon, von den Lagerstätten der Löwen, von den Bergen der Panther.

Thou hast ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse; thou hast ravished my heart with one of thine eyes, with one chain of thy neck.

Du hast mir das Herz geraubt, meine Schwester, meine Braut; du hast mir das Herz geraubt mit einem deiner Blicke, mit einer Kette von deinem Halsschmuck.

How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices!

Wie schön ist deine Liebe, meine Schwester, meine Braut; wieviel besser ist deine Liebe als Wein, und der Duft deiner Salben als alle Gewürze! Honigseim träufeln deine Lippen, meine Braut;

Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon.

Honig und Milch ist unter deiner Zunge, und der Duft deiner Gewänder wie der Duft des Libanon.

A garden inclosed is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed.

Ein verschlossener Garten ist meine Schwester, meine Braut, ein verschlossener Born, eine versiegelte Quelle.

Thy plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; camphire, with spikenard,

Was dir entsproßt, ist ein Lustgarten von Granaten nebst edlen Früchten, Cyperblumen nebst Narden;

Spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices:

Narde und Safran, Würzrohr und Zimt, nebst allerlei Weihrauchgehölz, Myrrhe und Aloe nebst allen vortrefflichsten Gewürzen;

A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon.

eine Gartenquelle, ein Brunnen lebendigen Wassers, und Bäche, die vom Libanon fließen." -

Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.

Wache auf, Nordwind, und komm, Südwind: durchwehe meinen Garten, laß träufeln seine Wohlgerüche! Mein Geliebter komme in seinen Garten und esse die ihm köstliche Frucht. -
