I Samuel 19

And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.

شائول به پسر خود یوناتان و خادمان خود گفت که داوود را به قتل برسانند. امّا چون یوناتان، داوود را دوست می‌داشت،

But Jonathan Saul's son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself:

به داوود خبر داده گفت: «پدرم شائول، قصد کشتن تو را دارد. پس تو تا صبح مراقب خود باش. در جایی پنهان شو و خود را مخفی کن.

And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee.

بعد من می‌آیم و در مزرعه‌ای که تو پنهان شده‌ای با پدرم دربارهٔ تو صحبت می‌کنم و نتیجهٔ گفت‌وگوی خود را با او به تو اطّلاع می‌دهم.»

And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good:

یوناتان پیش پدر خود از داوود تعریف کرد و به او گفت: «خواهش می‌کنم به داوود ضرری نرسان، زیرا او هر‌گز به تو بدی نکرده است. رفتار او در مقابل تو نیک و صادقانه بوده است.

For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?

او جان خود را به خطر انداخت و آن فلسطینی را کشت و خداوند پیروزی بزرگی نصیب اسرائیل کرد. خودت آن را به چشم خود دیدی و خوشحال شدی. پس چرا می‌خواهی او را بی‌سبب به قتل برسانی و دست خود را به خون بی‌گناهی آلوده کنی؟»

And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As the LORD liveth, he shall not be slain.

شائول خواهش یوناتان را قبول کرد و به نام خداوند قسم خورد که داوود را نکشد.

And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan shewed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as in times past.

بعد یوناتان، داوود را خواست و همه‌چیز را به او گفت؛ سپس او را به حضور شائول برد و مانند سابق به خدمت خود مشغول شد.

And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him.

دوباره جنگ با فلسطینیان شروع شد و داوود با یک حمله آنان را شکست داد و آنها با دادن تلفات سنگینی فرار کردند.

And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand.

روزی شائول در خانهٔ خود نشسته بود و نیزهٔ خود را در دست داشت و به نوای چنگ داوود گوش می‌داد که ناگهان روح پلید از جانب خداوند بر شائول آمد.

And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin; but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.

شائول خواست که داوود را با نیزهٔ خود به دیوار بکوبد، امّا داوود از حضور شائول گریخت و نیزه به دیوار فرو رفت. او از آنجا فرار کرد و از مرگ نجات یافت.

Saul also sent messengers unto David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal David's wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to morrow thou shalt be slain.

آن شب شائول افرادی را به خانهٔ داوود فرستاد تا مراقب او باشند و فردای آن روز هنگامی‌که از خانه خارج می‌شود او را بکشند. امّا میکال، زن داوود او را از خطری که متوجّه او بود آگاه ساخت و گفت: «شبانه از خانه خارج شو، وگرنه فردا زنده نخواهی ماند.»

So Michal let David down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.

میکال داوود را از پنجره به پایین فرستاد و داوود از خانه گریخت.

And Michal took an image, and laid it in the bed, and put a pillow of goats' hair for his bolster, and covered it with a cloth.

سپس میکال یک مجسمه را در بستر قرار داد و بالشی از موی بُز زیر سرش گذاشت و آن را با لحافی پوشاند.

And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick.

وقتی فرستادگان شائول آمدند که او را ببرند میکال گفت که داوود مریض است.

And Saul sent the messengers again to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.

شائول چند نفر را فرستاد و گفت: «او را با بسترش به حضور من بیاورید تا وی را بکشم.»

And when the messengers were come in, behold, there was an image in the bed, with a pillow of goats' hair for his bolster.

وقتی آنها آمدند دیدند که مجسمه‌‌ای در بستر قرار دارد و بالشی زیر سر آن بود.

And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me so, and sent away mine enemy, that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?

شائول از میکال پرسید: «چرا مرا فریب دادی و گذاشتی که دشمن من از دستم بگریزد؟» میکال جواب داد: «او به من گفت: 'یا بگذار که فرار کنم یا تو را می‌کشم.'»

So David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.

به این ترتیب داوود فرار کرد و خود را سالم به سموئیل در رامه رساند و به او گفت که شائول چگونه با او رفتار کرده است. پس سموئیل داوود را با خود به نایوت برد تا در آنجا زندگی کند.

And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.

چون به شائول خبر دادند که داوود در نایوت است

And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.

چند نفر را فرستاد تا او را دستگیر کنند. وقتی آنها به آنجا رسیدند، چند نفر از انبیا را دیدند که به رهبری سموئیل نبوّت می‌کنند. آنگاه روح خداوند بر فرستادگان شائول آمد و آنها هم شروع به نبوّت کردند.

And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also.

چون شائول از ماجرا باخبر شد، تعداد دیگری را فرستاد و آنها هم شروع به نبوّت کردند. او برای بار سوم فرستادگانی را فرستاد که برای آنان هم همان اتّفاق افتاد.

Then went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that is in Sechu: and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they be at Naioth in Ramah.

پس خودش به طرف رامه به راه افتاد. وقتی به چاه بزرگی در سیخوه رسید، از مردم پرسید: «سموئیل و داوود کجا هستند؟» یک ‌نفر جواب داد: «آنها در نایوت رامه هستند.»

And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

در راه نایوت روح خداوند بر او هم آمد و او هم تا نایوت در بین راه نبوّت می‌کرد.

And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?

او لباس خود را از تن بیرون آورد و در حضور سموئیل نبوّت می‌کرد. و تمام روز و شب در آنجا برهنه افتاده بود. به این دلیل بود که گفتند: «آیا شائول هم از جملهٔ انبیا است؟»
