I Kings 5

And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.

حیرام، پادشاه صور همیشه دوست داوود بود و هنگامی‌که شنید، سلیمان جانشین پدر خود داوود پادشاه شده است، سفیرانی نزد او فرستاد.

And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,

سلیمان برای حیرام این پیام را فرستاد:

Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.

«تو می‌دانی که پدرم داوود به‌خاطر جنگهای دایمی‌ علیه سرزمینهای دشمنان اطرافش نتوانست معبدی برای ستایش خداوند بسازد تا اینکه خداوند او را بر همهٔ دشمنانش پیروز گرداند.

But now the LORD my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

امّا اکنون خداوند خدای من، به من در همهٔ مرزها آرامی بخشیده و من دشمنی ندارم و خطر حمله نیز وجود ندارد.

And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.

خداوند، به پدرم داوود وعده داد، پسرت که من او را بعد از تو پادشاه خواهم کرد، برای من معبدی خواهد ساخت. اکنون تصمیم گرفته‌ام که آن معبد را برای ستایش خداوند بسازم.

Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.

پس مردان خود را به لبنان بفرست تا درختان سرو برای من قطع کنند. مردان من نیز با آنها کار خواهند کرد و من مزد کارگران تو را هرچه تعیین کنی می‌پردازم، همان‌طور که می‌دانی کارگران من در قطع کردن درختان به خوبی کارگران تو نیستند.»

And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.

حیرام هنگامی‌که پیام سلیمان را شنید، بسیار خشنود شد و گفت: «سپاس خداوند را که امروز به داوود چنین پسر خردمندی داده است تا جانشین او و پادشاه آن سرزمین بزرگ شود.»

And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.

آنگاه حیرام برای سلیمان پیام فرستاد که: «من پیام شما را دریافت کرده‌ام و آماده انجام درخواست شما هستم.

My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.

مردان من الوار را از لبنان به ساحل دریا پایین می‌آورند و آنها را به هم می‌بندند تا شناور شوند و از آنجا به محلی که شما انتخاب می‌کنید خواهیم فرستاد. در آنجا مردان من آنها را باز می‌کنند و مردان شما مسئول آنها خواهند بود. در عوض، خوراک مردان مرا تهیّه کنید.»

So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire.

پس حیرام الوار سرو و کاج مورد نیاز سلیمان را تهیّه کرد.

And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.

سلیمان هر سال معادل دو هزار تُن گندم و چهار هزار و چهارصد لیتر روغن زیتون خالص برای خوراک مردان حیرام می‌فرستاد.

And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

خداوند طبق وعدهٔ خود به سلیمان بینش داد. بین حیرام و سلیمان صلح برقرار بود و آنها با یکدیگر پیمان بستند.

And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.

سلیمان پادشاه، سی هزار کارگر از سراسر اسرائیل به بیگاری گرفت و

And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy.

ادونیرام را سرپرست آنها قرار داد. او آنها را به سه گروه ده هزار نفری تقسیم کرد. هر گروه یک ماه در لبنان و دو ماه در خانه به سر می‌برد.

And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains;

سلیمان همچنین هفتاد هزار باربر و هشتاد هزار سنگتراش در کوهستان داشت.

Beside the chief of Solomon's officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.

او سه هزار و سیصد سرکارگر برای نظارت برکارها گماشت.

And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.

به دستور سلیمان پادشاه آنها سنگهای مرغوب بزرگی برای پایه معبد بزرگ می‌بریدند.

And Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders did hew them, and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.

کارگران سلیمان و حیرام و مردان شهر باببلوس سنگها و الوار را برای ساختن معبد بزرگ آماده کردند.
