Joshua 2

Giô-suê, con trai của Nun, từ Si-tim mật sai hai người do thám mà rằng: Hãy đi do thám xứ, nhất là Giê-ri-cô. Vậy, hai người ấy đi đến nhà của một kỵ nữ tên là Ra-háp, và ngụ tại đó.

And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there.

Người ta bèn tâu cùng vua Giê-ri-cô rằng: Kìa, đêm nay có người trong dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đã đến do thám xứ.

And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.

Vua Giê-ri-cô sai nói cùng Ra-háp rằng: Hãy đuổi hai người đã đến vào nhà ngươi; vì họ đến đặng do thám cả xứ.

And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.

Nhưng người đờn bà đem giấu hai người này, rồi đáp rằng: Quả thật họ đã tới nhà tôi nhưng chẳng biết ở đâu đến.

And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:

Song vào buổi tối cửa thành hầu đóng, hai người ấy đi ra tôi không biết đi đâu; hãy mau đuổi theo, vì các ngươi theo kịp được.

And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.

Vả, nàng có biểu hai người leo lên mái nhà, giấu dưới cộng gai mà nàng rải ở trên mái.

But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.

Những người của vua đuổi theo họ về hướng sông Giô-đanh, cho đến chỗ cạn; vừa khi những người đuổi theo đó ra khỏi thành, thì người ta đóng cửa thành.

And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.

Trước khi hai người do thám chưa nằm ngủ, nàng leo lên mái nhà,

And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;

mà nói rằng: Tôi biết rằng Ðức Giê-hô-va đã ban cho các ông xứ này, sự kinh khủng vì cớ các ông đã bắt lấy chúng tôi, và cả dân của xứ đều sờn lòng trước mặt các ông.

And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.

Vì chúng tôi có hay khi các ông ra khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô, thì Ðức Giê-hô-va đã khiến nước Biển đỏ bày khô trước mặt các ông, và điều các ông đã làm cho Si-hôn và Oùc, hai vua dân A-mô-rít, ở bên kia sông Giô-đanh, mà các ông đã diệt đi.

For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.

Chúng tôi có hay điều đó, lòng bèn tan ra, chẳng ai trong chúng tôi còn can đảm trước mặt các ông nữa; vì Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ông là Ðức Chúa Trời ở trên trời cao kia, và ở dưới đất thấp này.

And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.

Vậy bây giờ, vì tôi đã làm nhơn cho hai ông, thì hai ông cũng phải làm nhơn lại cho nhà cha tôi; hãy chỉ Ðức Giê-hô-va mà thề cùng tôi, và cho một dấu quả quyết

Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token:

rằng các ông sẽ để cha mẹ, anh em, chị em tôi, và hết thảy người bà con của họ đều còn sống, cùng cứu chúng tôi khỏi chết.

And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.

Hai người đáp rằng: Mạng chúng ta sẽ đền cho mạng nàng! Nếu nàng không cho lậu việc chúng ta ra, thì chúng ta sẽ đãi nàng cách nhơn từ và thành tín khi Ðức Giê-hô-va ban xứ cho chúng ta.

And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.

Vậy, nàng dùng một sợi dây dòng hai người xuống nơi cửa sổ, vì nhà nàng ở tại trên vách thành.

Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.

Nàng nói rằng: Hãy đi đến núi, kẻo những người đuổi theo gặp các ông chăng; hãy ẩn đó ba ngày cho đến chừng nào những người đuổi theo trở về; sau rồi các ông hãy đi đường.

And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.

Vả, hai người nói cùng nàng rằng: Này thể nào chúng ta sẽ khỏi mắc lời thề mà nàng đã bắt ta thề.

And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.

Khi nào chúng ta vào xứ, nàng phải cột sợi chỉ điều này nơi cửa sổ mà nàng dòng chúng ta xuống, rồi nhóm hiệp cha mẹ, anh em, hết thảy bà con của nàng lại trong nhà mình.

Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee.

Phàm ai trong các người đó đi ra ngoài cửa nhà nàng, thì huyết người ấy sẽ đổ lại trên đầu người, và chúng ta vô tội; nhưng nếu ai tra tay vào người nào ở cùng nàng trong nhà, thì huyết của người đó sẽ đổ lại trên đầu chúng ta.

And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.

Còn nếu nàng cho lậu việc chúng ta, ắt chúng ta sẽ khỏi mắc lời mà nàng đã bắt chúng ta thề.

And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

Nàng bèn đáp: Khá y lời hai ông đã nói. Ðoạn, nàng cho hai người đi, và hai người liền đi. Nàng bèn cột sợi chỉ điều nơi cửa sổ.

And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.

Vậy, hai người đi đến núi, ở đó ba ngày cho đến khi những người đuổi theo mình trở về. Mấy người ấy kiếm họ cùng đường, nhưng không gặp.

And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.

Hai người do thám bèn đi xuống núi trở về; khi đã qua sông Giô-đanh rồi, thì đến gần Giê-suê, con trai Nun, thuật cho người mọi điều đã xảy ra.

So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:

Hai người nói cùng Giô-suê rằng: Quả thật, Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phó cả xứ vào tay chúng ta; và lại, hết thảy dân của xứ đều sờn lòng trước mặt chúng ta.

And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.
