Ecclesiastes 12

جوانی میں ہی اپنے خالق کو یاد رکھ، اِس سے پہلے کہ مصیبت کے دن آئیں، وہ سال قریب آئیں جن کے بارے میں تُو کہے گا، ”یہ مجھے پسند نہیں۔“

Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

اُسے یاد رکھ اِس سے پہلے کہ روشنی تیرے لئے ختم ہو جائے، سورج، چاند اور ستارے اندھیرے ہو جائیں اور بارش کے بعد بادل لوٹ آئیں۔

While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:

اُسے یاد رکھ، اِس سے پہلے کہ گھر کے پہرے دار تھرتھرانے لگیں، طاقت ور آدمی کُبڑے ہو جائیں، گندم پیسنے والی نوکرانیاں کم ہونے کے باعث کام کرنا چھوڑ دیں اور کھڑکیوں میں سے دیکھنے والی خواتین دُھندلا جائیں۔

In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,

اُسے یاد رکھ، اِس سے پہلے کہ گلی میں پہنچانے والا دروازہ بند ہو جائے اور چکّی کی آواز آہستہ ہو جائے۔ جب چڑیاں چہچہانے لگیں گی تو تُو جاگ اُٹھے گا، لیکن تمام گیتوں کی آواز دبی سی سنائی دے گی۔

And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;

اُسے یاد رکھ، اِس سے پہلے کہ تُو اونچی جگہوں اور گلیوں کے خطروں سے ڈرنے لگے۔ گو بادام کا پھول کھل جائے، ٹڈی بوجھ تلے دب جائے اور کریر کا پھول پھوٹ نکلے، لیکن تُو کوچ کر کے اپنے ابدی گھر میں چلا جائے گا، اور ماتم کرنے والے گلیوں میں گھومتے پھریں گے۔

Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:

اللہ کو یاد رکھ، اِس سے پہلے کہ چاندی کا رسّا ٹوٹ جائے، سونے کا برتن ٹکڑے ٹکڑے ہو جائے، چشمے کے پاس گھڑا پاش پاش ہو جائے اور کنویں کا پانی نکالنے والا پہیہ ٹوٹ کر اُس میں گر جائے۔

Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.

تب تیری خاک دوبارہ اُس خاک میں مل جائے گی جس سے نکل آئی اور تیری روح اُس خدا کے پاس لوٹ جائے گی جس نے اُسے بخشا تھا۔

Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

واعظ فرماتا ہے، ”باطل ہی باطل! سب کچھ باطل ہی باطل ہے!“

Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.

دانش مند ہونے کے علاوہ واعظ قوم کو علم و عرفان کی تعلیم دیتا رہا۔ اُس نے متعدد امثال کو صحیح وزن دے کر اُن کی جانچ پڑتال کی اور اُنہیں ترتیب وار جمع کیا۔

And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

واعظ کی کوشش تھی کہ مناسب الفاظ استعمال کرے اور دیانت داری سے سچی باتیں لکھے۔

The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

دانش مندوں کے الفاظ آنکس کی مانند ہیں، ترتیب سے جمع شدہ امثال لکڑی میں مضبوطی سے ٹھونکی گئی کیلوں جیسی ہیں۔ یہ ایک ہی گلہ بان کی دی ہوئی ہیں۔

The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

میرے بیٹے، اِس کے علاوہ خبردار رہ۔ کتابیں لکھنے کا سلسلہ کبھی ختم نہیں ہو جائے گا، اور حد سے زیادہ کتب بینی سے جسم تھک جاتا ہے۔

And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

آؤ، اختتام پر ہم تمام تعلیم کے خلاصے پر دھیان دیں۔ رب کا خوف مان اور اُس کے احکام کی پیروی کر۔ یہ ہر انسان کا فرض ہے۔

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

کیونکہ اللہ ہر کام کو خواہ وہ چھپا ہی ہو، خواہ بُرا یا بھلا ہو عدالت میں لائے گا۔

For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
