Nehemiah 8

And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.

تو سب لوگ مل کر پانی کے دروازے کے چوک میں جمع ہو گئے۔ اُنہوں نے شریعت کے عالِم عزرا سے درخواست کی کہ وہ شریعت لے آئیں جو رب نے موسیٰ کی معرفت اسرائیلی قوم کو دے دی تھی۔

And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.

چنانچہ عزرا نے حاضرین کے سامنے شریعت کی تلاوت کی۔ ساتویں مہینے کا پہلا دن تھا۔ نہ صرف مرد بلکہ عورتیں اور شریعت کی باتیں سمجھنے کے قابل تمام بچے بھی جمع ہوئے تھے۔

And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.

صبح سویرے سے لے کر دوپہر تک عزرا پانی کے دروازے کے چوک میں پڑھتا رہا، اور تمام جماعت دھیان سے شریعت کی باتیں سنتی رہی۔

And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.

عزرا لکڑی کے ایک چبوترے پر کھڑا تھا جو خاص کر اِس موقع کے لئے بنایا گیا تھا۔ اُس کے دائیں ہاتھ متِتیاہ، سمع، عنایاہ، اُوریاہ، خِلقیاہ اور معسیاہ کھڑے تھے۔ اُس کے بائیں ہاتھ فِدایاہ، میسائیل، ملکیاہ، حاشوم، حسبدّانہ، زکریاہ اور مسُلّام کھڑے تھے۔

And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:

چونکہ عزرا اونچی جگہ پر کھڑا تھا اِس لئے وہ سب کو نظر آیا۔ چنانچہ جب اُس نے کتاب کو کھول دیا تو سب لوگ کھڑے ہو گئے۔

And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground.

عزرا نے رب عظیم خدا کی ستائش کی، اور سب نے اپنے ہاتھ اُٹھا کر جواب میں کہا، ”آمین، آمین۔“ پھر اُنہوں نے جھک کر رب کو سجدہ کیا۔

Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.

کچھ لاوی حاضر تھے جنہوں نے لوگوں کے لئے شریعت کی تشریح کی۔ اُن کے نام یشوع، بانی، سربیاہ، یمین، عقّوب، سبّتی، ہودیاہ، معسیاہ، قلیطا، عزریاہ، یوزبد، حنان اور فِلایاہ تھے۔ حاضرین اب تک کھڑے تھے۔

So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.

شریعت کی تلاوت کے ساتھ ساتھ مذکورہ لاوی قدم بہ قدم اُس کی تشریح یوں کرتے گئے کہ لوگ اُسے اچھی طرح سمجھ سکے۔

And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the LORD your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.

شریعت کی باتیں سن سن کر وہ رونے لگے۔ لیکن نحمیاہ گورنر، شریعت کے عالِم عزرا امام اور شریعت کی تشریح کرنے والے لاویوں نے اُنہیں تسلی دے کر کہا، ”اُداس نہ ہوں اور مت روئیں! آج رب آپ کے خدا کے لئے مخصوص و مُقدّس عید ہے۔

Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

اب جائیں، عمدہ کھانا کھا کر اور پینے کی میٹھی چیزیں پی کر خوشی منائیں۔ جو اپنے لئے کچھ تیار نہ کر سکیں اُنہیں اپنی خوشی میں شریک کریں۔ یہ دن ہمارے رب کے لئے مخصوص و مُقدّس ہے۔ اُداس نہ ہوں، کیونکہ رب کی خوشی آپ کی پناہ گاہ ہے۔“

So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye grieved.

لاویوں نے بھی تمام لوگوں کو سکون دلا کر کہا، ”اُداس نہ ہوں، کیونکہ یہ دن رب کے لئے مخصوص و مُقدّس ہے۔“

And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.

پھر سب اپنے اپنے گھر چلے گئے۔ وہاں اُنہوں نے بڑی خوشی سے کھا پی کر جشن منایا۔ ساتھ ساتھ اُنہوں نے دوسروں کو بھی اپنی خوشی میں شریک کیا۔ اُن کی بڑی خوشی کا سبب یہ تھا کہ اب اُنہیں اُن باتوں کی سمجھ آئی تھی جو اُنہیں سنائی گئی تھیں۔

And on the second day were gathered together the chief of the fathers of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto Ezra the scribe, even to understand the words of the law.

اگلے دن خاندانی سرپرست، امام اور لاوی دوبارہ شریعت کے عالِم عزرا کے پاس جمع ہوئے تاکہ شریعت کی مزید تعلیم پائیں۔

And they found written in the law which the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month:

جب وہ شریعت کا مطالعہ کر رہے تھے تو اُنہیں پتا چلا کہ رب نے موسیٰ کی معرفت حکم دیا تھا کہ اسرائیلی ساتویں مہینے کی عید کے دوران جھونپڑیوں میں رہیں۔

And that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount, and fetch olive branches, and pine branches, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written.

چنانچہ اُنہوں نے یروشلم اور باقی تمام شہروں میں اعلان کیا، ”پہاڑوں پر سے زیتون، آس ، کھجور اور باقی سایہ دار درختوں کی شاخیں توڑ کر اپنے گھر لے جائیں۔ وہاں اُن سے جھونپڑیاں بنائیں، جس طرح شریعت نے ہدایت دی ہے۔“

So the people went forth, and brought them, and made themselves booths, every one upon the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the water gate, and in the street of the gate of Ephraim.

لوگوں نے ایسا ہی کیا۔ وہ گھروں سے نکلے اور درختوں کی شاخیں توڑ کر لے آئے۔ اُن سے اُنہوں نے اپنے گھروں کی چھتوں پر اور صحنوں میں جھونپڑیاں بنا لیں۔ بعض نے اپنی جھونپڑیوں کو رب کے گھر کے صحنوں، پانی کے دروازے کے چوک اور افرائیم کے دروازے کے چوک میں بھی بنایا۔

And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great gladness.

جتنے بھی جلاوطنی سے واپس آئے تھے وہ سب جھونپڑیاں بنا کر اُن میں رہنے لگے۔ یشوع بن نون کے زمانے سے لے کر اُس وقت تک یہ عید اِس طرح نہیں منائی گئی تھی۔ سب نہایت ہی خوش تھے۔

Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according unto the manner.

عید کے ہر دن عزرا نے اللہ کی شریعت کی تلاوت کی۔ سات دن اسرائیلیوں نے عید منائی، اور آٹھویں دن سب لوگ اجتماع کے لئے اکٹھے ہوئے، بالکل اُن ہدایات کے مطابق جو شریعت میں دی گئی ہیں۔
