Jeremiah 44

The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews which dwell in the land of Egypt, which dwell at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Noph, and in the country of Pathros, saying,

رب کا کلام ایک بار پھر یرمیاہ پر نازل ہوا۔ اُس میں وہ اُن تمام ہم وطنوں سے ہم کلام ہوا جو شمالی مصر کے شہروں مجدال، تحفن حیس اور میمفِس اور جنوبی مصر بنام پتروس میں رہتے تھے۔

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man dwelleth therein,

”رب الافواج جو اسرائیل کا خدا ہے فرماتا ہے، ’تم نے خود وہ بڑی آفت دیکھی جو مَیں یروشلم اور یہوداہ کے دیگر تمام شہروں پر لایا۔ آج وہ ویران و سنسان ہیں، اور اُن میں کوئی نہیں بستا۔

Because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, and to serve other gods, whom they knew not, neither they, ye, nor your fathers.

یوں اُنہیں اُن کی بُری حرکتوں کا اجر ملا۔ کیونکہ اجنبی معبودوں کے لئے بخور جلا کر اُن کی خدمت کرنے سے اُنہوں نے مجھے طیش دلایا۔ اور یہ ایسے دیوتا تھے جن سے پہلے نہ وہ، نہ تم اور نہ تمہارے باپ دادا واقف تھے۔

Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate.

بار بار مَیں نبیوں کو اُن کے پاس بھیجتا رہا، اور بار بار میرے خادم کہتے رہے کہ ایسی گھنونی حرکتیں مت کرنا، کیونکہ مجھے اِن سے نفرت ہے!

But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods.

لیکن اُنہوں نے نہ سنی، نہ دھیان دیا۔ نہ وہ اپنی بےدینی سے باز آئے، نہ اجنبی معبودوں کو بخور جلانے کا سلسلہ بند کیا۔

Wherefore my fury and mine anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as at this day.

تب میرا شدید غضب اُن پر نازل ہوا۔ میرے قہر کی زبردست آگ نے یہوداہ کے شہروں اور یروشلم کی گلیوں میں پھیلتے پھیلتے اُنہیں ویران و سنسان کر دیا۔ آج تک اُن کا یہی حال ہے۔‘

Therefore now thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; Wherefore commit ye this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and suckling, out of Judah, to leave you none to remain;

اب رب الافواج جو اسرائیل کا خدا ہے فرماتا ہے، ’تم اپنا ستیاناس کیوں کر رہے ہو؟ ایسے قدم اُٹھانے سے تم یہوداہ سے آئے ہوئے مردوں اور عورتوں کو بچوں اور شیرخواروں سمیت ہلاکت کی طرف لا رہے ہو۔ اِس صورت میں ایک بھی نہیں بچے گا۔

In that ye provoke me unto wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt, whither ye be gone to dwell, that ye might cut yourselves off, and that ye might be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?

مجھے اپنے ہاتھوں کے کام سے طیش کیوں دلاتے ہو؟ یہاں مصر میں پناہ لے کر تم اجنبی معبودوں کے لئے بخور کیوں جلاتے ہو؟ اِس سے تم اپنے آپ کو نیست و نابود کر رہے ہو، تم دنیا کی تمام قوموں کے لئے لعنت اور مذاق کا نشانہ بنو گے۔

Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?

کیا تم اپنی قوم کے سنگین گناہوں کو بھول گئے ہو؟ کیا تمہیں وہ کچھ یاد نہیں جو تمہارے باپ دادا، یہوداہ کے راجے رانیوں اور تم سے تمہاری بیویوں سمیت ملکِ یہوداہ اور یروشلم کی گلیوں میں سرزد ہوا ہے؟

They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.

آج تک تم نے نہ انکساری کا اظہار کیا، نہ میرا خوف مانا، اور نہ میری شریعت کے مطابق زندگی گزاری۔ تم اُن ہدایات کے تابع نہ رہے جو مَیں نے تمہیں اور تمہارے باپ دادا کو عطا کی تھیں۔‘

Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah.

چنانچہ رب الافواج جو اسرائیل کا خدا ہے فرماتا ہے، ’مَیں تم پر آفت لانے کا اٹل ارادہ رکھتا ہوں۔ تمام یہوداہ ختم ہو جائے گا۔

And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.

مَیں یہوداہ کے اُس بچے ہوئے حصے کو صفحۂ ہستی سے مٹا دوں گا جو مصر میں جا کر پناہ لینے پر تُلا ہوا تھا۔ سب مصر میں ہلاک ہو جائیں گے، خواہ تلوار سے، خواہ کال سے۔ چھوٹے سے لے کر بڑے تک سب کے سب تلوار یا کال کی زد میں آ کر مر جائیں گے۔ اُنہیں دیکھ کر لوگوں کے رونگٹے کھڑے ہو جائیں گے، اور وہ دوسروں کی لعن طعن اور حقارت کا نشانہ بنیں گے۔ لعنت کرنے والا اپنے دشمنوں کے لئے اُن ہی کا سا انجام چاہے گا۔

For I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence:

جس طرح مَیں نے یروشلم کو سزا دی عین اُسی طرح مَیں مصر میں آنے والے ہم وطنوں کو تلوار، کال اور مہلک بیماریوں سے سزا دوں گا۔

So that none of the remnant of Judah, which are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Judah, to the which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return but such as shall escape.

یہوداہ کے جتنے بچے ہوئے لوگ یہاں مصر میں پناہ لینے کے لئے آئے ہیں وہ سب یہیں ہلاک ہو جائیں گے۔ کوئی بھی بچ کر ملکِ یہوداہ میں نہیں لوٹے گا، گو تم سب وہاں دوبارہ آباد ہونے کی شدید آرزو رکھتے ہو۔ صرف چند ایک اِس میں کامیاب ہو جائیں گے‘۔“

Then all the men which knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,

اُس وقت شمالی اور جنوبی مصر میں رہنے والے یہوداہ کے تمام مرد اور عورتیں ایک بڑے اجتماع کے لئے جمع ہوئے تھے۔ مردوں کو خوب معلوم تھا کہ ہماری بیویاں اجنبی معبودوں کو بخور کی قربانیاں پیش کرتی ہیں۔ اب اُنہوں نے یرمیاہ سے کہا،

As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee.

”جو بات آپ نے رب کا نام لے کر ہم سے کی ہے وہ ہم نہیں مانتے۔

But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.

ہم اُن تمام باتوں پر ضرور عمل کریں گے جو ہم نے کہی ہیں۔ ہم آسمانی ملکہ دیوی کے لئے بخور جلائیں گے اور اُسے مَے کی نذریں پیش کریں گے۔ ہم وہی کچھ کریں گے جو ہم، ہمارے باپ دادا، ہمارے بادشاہ اور ہمارے بزرگ ملکِ یہوداہ اور یروشلم کی گلیوں میں کیا کرتے تھے۔ کیونکہ اُس وقت روٹی کی کثرت تھی اور ہمارا اچھا حال تھا۔ اُس وقت ہم کسی بھی مصیبت سے دوچار نہ ہوئے۔

But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.

لیکن جب سے ہم آسمانی ملکہ کو بخور اور مَے کی نذریں پیش کرنے سے باز آئے ہیں اُس وقت سے ہر لحاظ سے حاجت مند رہے ہیں۔ اُسی وقت سے ہم تلوار اور کال کی زد میں آ کر نیست ہو رہے ہیں۔“

And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?

عورتوں نے بات جاری رکھ کر کہا، ”کیا آپ سمجھتے ہیں کہ ہمارے شوہروں کو اِس کا علم نہیں تھا کہ ہم آسمانی ملکہ کو بخور اور مَے کی نذریں پیش کرتی ہیں، کہ ہم اُس کی شکل کی ٹکیاں بنا کر اُس کی پوجا کرتی ہیں؟“

Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had given him that answer, saying,

یرمیاہ اعتراض کرنے والے تمام مردوں اور عورتوں سے دوبارہ مخاطب ہوا،

The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them, and came it not into his mind?

”دیکھو، رب نے اُس بخور پر دھیان دیا جو تم اور تمہارے باپ دادا نے بادشاہوں، بزرگوں اور عوام سمیت یہوداہ کے شہروں اور یروشلم کی گلیوں میں جلایا ہے۔ یہ بات اُسے خوب یاد ہے۔

So that the LORD could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.

آخرکار ایک وقت آیا جب تمہاری شریر اور گھنونی حرکتیں قابلِ برداشت نہ رہیں، اور رب کو تمہیں سزا دینی پڑی۔ یہی وجہ ہے کہ آج تمہارا ملک ویران و سنسان ہے، کہ اُسے دیکھ کر لوگوں کے رونگٹے کھڑے ہو جاتے ہیں۔ لعنت کرنے والا اپنے دشمن کے لئے ایسا ہی انجام چاہتا ہے۔

Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as at this day.

آفت اِسی لئے تم پر آئی کہ تم نے بُتوں کے لئے بخور جلا کر رب کی نہ سنی۔ نہ تم نے اُس کی شریعت کے مطابق زندگی گزاری، نہ اُس کی ہدایات اور احکام پر عمل کیا۔ آج تک ملک کا یہی حال رہا ہے۔“

Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the LORD, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt:

پھر یرمیاہ نے تمام لوگوں سے عورتوں سمیت کہا، ”اے مصر میں رہنے والے یہوداہ کے تمام ہم وطنو، رب کا کلام سنو!

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows.

رب الافواج جو اسرائیل کا خدا ہے فرماتا ہے کہ تم اور تمہاری بیویوں نے اصرار کیا ہے، ’ہم ضرور اپنی اُن مَنتوں کو پورا کریں گے جو ہم نے مانی ہیں، ہم ضرور آسمانی ملکہ کو بخور اور مَے کی نذریں پیش کریں گے۔‘ اور تم نے اپنے الفاظ اور اپنی حرکتوں سے ثابت کر دیا ہے کہ تم سنجیدگی سے اپنے اِس اعلان پر عمل کرنا چاہتے ہو۔ تو ٹھیک ہے، اپنا وعدہ اور اپنی مَنتیں پوری کرو!

Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth.

لیکن اے مصر میں رہنے والے تمام ہم وطنو، رب کے کلام پر دھیان دو! رب فرماتا ہے کہ میرے عظیم نام کی قَسم، آئندہ مصر میں تم میں سے کوئی میرا نام لے کر قَسم نہیں کھائے گا، کوئی نہیں کہے گا، ’رب قادرِ مطلق کی حیات کی قَسم!‘

Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.

کیونکہ مَیں تمہاری نگرانی کر رہا ہوں، لیکن تم پر مہربانی کرنے کے لئے نہیں بلکہ تمہیں نقصان پہنچانے کے لئے۔ مصر میں رہنے والے یہوداہ کے تمام لوگ تلوار اور کال کی زد میں آ جائیں گے اور پِستے پِستے ہلاک ہو جائیں گے۔

Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs.

صرف چند ایک دشمن کی تلوار سے بچ کر ملکِ یہوداہ واپس آئیں گے۔ تب یہوداہ کے جتنے بچے ہوئے لوگ مصر میں پناہ لینے کے لئے آئے ہیں وہ سب جان لیں گے کہ کس کی بات درست نکلی ہے، میری یا اُن کی۔

And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the LORD, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:

رب فرماتا ہے کہ مَیں تمہیں نشان بھی دیتا ہوں تاکہ تمہیں یقین ہو جائے کہ مَیں تمہارے خلاف خالی باتیں نہیں کر رہا بلکہ تمہیں یقیناً مصر میں سزا دوں گا۔

Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give Pharaoh–hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life.

نشان یہ ہو گا کہ جس طرح مَیں نے یہوداہ کے بادشاہ صِدقیاہ کو اُس کے جانی دشمن نبوکدنضر کے حوالے کر دیا اُسی طرح مَیں حُفرع فرعون کو بھی اُس کے جانی دشمنوں کے حوالے کر دوں گا۔ یہ رب کا فرمان ہے۔“
