Jeremiah 37

And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

یہوداہ کے بادشاہ یہویاکین بن یہویقیم کو تخت سے اُتارنے کے بعد شاہِ بابل نبوکدنضر نے صِدقیاہ بن یوسیاہ کو تخت پر بٹھا دیا۔

But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.

لیکن نہ صِدقیاہ، نہ اُس کے افسروں یا عوام نے اُن پیغامات پر دھیان دیا جو رب نے یرمیاہ نبی کی معرفت فرمائے تھے۔

And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.

ایک دن صِدقیاہ بادشاہ نے یہوکل بن سلمیاہ اور امام صفنیاہ بن معسیاہ کو یرمیاہ کے پاس بھیجا تاکہ وہ گزارش کریں، ”مہربانی کر کے رب ہمارے خدا سے ہماری شفاعت کریں۔“

Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.

یرمیاہ کو اب تک قید میں ڈالا نہیں گیا تھا، اِس لئے وہ آزادی سے لوگوں میں چل پھر سکتا تھا۔

Then Pharaoh's army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.

اُس وقت فرعون کی فوج مصر سے نکل کر اسرائیل کی طرف بڑھ رہی تھی۔ جب یروشلم کا محاصرہ کرنے والی بابل کی فوج کو یہ خبر ملی تو وہ وہاں سے پیچھے ہٹ گئی۔

Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

تب رب یرمیاہ نبی سے ہم کلام ہوا،

Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.

”رب اسرائیل کا خدا فرماتا ہے کہ شاہِ یہوداہ نے تمہیں میری مرضی دریافت کرنے بھیجا ہے۔ اُسے جواب دو کہ فرعون کی جو فوج تمہاری مدد کرنے کے لئے نکل آئی ہے وہ اپنے ملک واپس لوٹنے کو ہے۔

And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.

پھر بابل کے فوجی واپس آ کر یروشلم پر حملہ کریں گے۔ وہ اِسے اپنے قبضے میں لے کر نذرِ آتش کر دیں گے۔

Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

کیونکہ رب فرماتا ہے کہ یہ سوچ کر دھوکا مت کھاؤ کہ بابل کی فوج ضرور ہمیں چھوڑ کر چلی جائے گی۔ ایسا کبھی نہیں ہو گا!

For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

خواہ تم حملہ آور پوری بابلی فوج کو شکست کیوں نہ دیتے اور صرف زخمی آدمی بچے رہتے توبھی تم ناکام رہتے، توبھی یہ بعض ایک آدمی اپنے خیموں میں سے نکل کر یروشلم کو نذرِ آتش کرتے۔“

And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army,

جب فرعون کی فوج اسرائیل کی طرف بڑھنے لگی تو بابل کے فوجی یروشلم کو چھوڑ کر پیچھے ہٹ گئے۔

Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.

اُن دنوں میں یرمیاہ بن یمین کے قبائلی علاقے کے لئے روانہ ہوا، کیونکہ وہ اپنے رشتے داروں کے ساتھ کوئی موروثی ملکیت تقسیم کرنا چاہتا تھا۔ لیکن جب وہ شہر سے نکلتے ہوئے

And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.

بن یمین کے دروازے تک پہنچ گیا تو پہرے داروں کا ایک افسر اُسے پکڑ کر کہنے لگا، ”تم بھگوڑے ہو! تم بابل کی فوج کے پاس جانا چاہتے ہو!“ افسر کا نام اِریاہ بن سلمیاہ بن حننیاہ تھا۔

Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.

یرمیاہ نے اعتراض کیا، ”یہ جھوٹ ہے، مَیں بھگوڑا نہیں ہوں! مَیں بابل کی فوج کے پاس نہیں جا رہا۔“ لیکن اِریاہ نہ مانا بلکہ اُسے گرفتار کر کے سرکاری افسروں کے پاس لے گیا۔

Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.

اُسے دیکھ کر اُنہیں یرمیاہ پر غصہ آیا، اور وہ اُس کی پٹائی کرا کر اُسے شاہی محرّر یونتن کے گھر میں لائے جسے اُنہوں نے قیدخانہ بنایا تھا۔

When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

وہاں اُسے ایک زمین دوز کمرے میں ڈال دیا گیا جو پہلے حوض تھا اور جس کی چھت محراب دار تھی۔ وہ متعدد دن اُس میں بند رہا۔

Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

ایک دن صِدقیاہ نے اُسے محل میں بُلایا۔ وہاں علیٰحدگی میں اُس سے پوچھا، ”کیا رب کی طرف سے میرے لئے کوئی پیغام ہے؟“ یرمیاہ نے جواب دیا، ”جی ہاں۔ آپ کو شاہِ بابل کے حوالے کیا جائے گا۔“

Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?

تب یرمیاہ نے صِدقیاہ بادشاہ سے اپنی بات جاری رکھ کر کہا، ”مجھ سے کیا جرم ہوا ہے؟ مَیں نے آپ کے افسروں اور عوام کے خلاف کیا قصور کیا ہے کہ مجھے جیل میں ڈلوا دیا؟

Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?

آپ کے وہ نبی کہاں ہیں جنہوں نے آپ کو پیش گوئی سنائی کہ شاہِ بابل نہ آپ پر، نہ اِس ملک پر حملہ کرے گا؟

Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

اے میرے مالک اور بادشاہ، مہربانی کر کے میری بات سنیں، میری گزارش پوری کریں! مجھے یونتن محرّر کے گھر میں واپس نہ بھیجیں، ورنہ مَیں مر جاؤں گا۔“

Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.

تب صِدقیاہ بادشاہ نے حکم دیا کہ یرمیاہ کو شاہی محافظوں کے صحن میں رکھا جائے۔ اُس نے یہ ہدایت بھی دی کہ جب تک شہر میں روٹی دست یاب ہو یرمیاہ کو نان بائی گلی سے ہر روز ایک روٹی ملتی رہے۔ چنانچہ یرمیاہ محافظوں کے صحن میں رہنے لگا۔
