Ezra 5

Then the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even unto them.

ایک دن دونبی بنام حجی اور زکریاہ بن عِدّو اُٹھ کر اسرائیل کے خدا کے نام میں جو اُن کے اوپر تھا یہوداہ اور یروشلم کے یہودیوں کے سامنے نبوّت کرنے لگے۔

Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.

اُن کے حوصلہ افزا الفاظ سن کر زرُبابل بن سیالتی ایل اور یشوع بن یوصدق نے فیصلہ کیا کہ ہم دوبارہ یروشلم میں اللہ کے گھر کی تعمیر شروع کریں گے۔ دونوں نبی اِس میں اُن کے ساتھ تھے اور اُن کی مدد کرتے رہے۔

At the same time came to them Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shethar–boznai, and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this wall?

لیکن جوں ہی کام شروع ہوا تو دریائے فرات کے مغربی علاقے کے گورنر تتّنی اور شتربوزنی اپنے ہم خدمت افسروں سمیت یروشلم پہنچے۔ اُنہوں نے پوچھا، ”کس نے آپ کو یہ گھر بنانے اور اِس کا ڈھانچا تکمیل تک پہنچانے کی اجازت دی؟

Then said we unto them after this manner, What are the names of the men that make this building?

اِس کام کے لئے ذمہ دار آدمیوں کے نام ہمیں بتائیں!“

But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they returned answer by letter concerning this matter.

لیکن اُن کا خدا یہوداہ کے بزرگوں کی نگرانی کر رہا تھا، اِس لئے اُنہیں روکا نہ گیا۔ کیونکہ لوگوں نے سوچا کہ پہلے دارا بادشاہ کو اطلاع دی جائے۔ جب تک وہ فیصلہ نہ کرے اُس وقت تک کام روکا نہ جائے۔

The copy of the letter that Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shethar–boznai, and his companions the Apharsachites, which were on this side the river, sent unto Darius the king:

پھر دریائے فرات کے مغربی علاقے کے گورنر تتّنی، شتربوزنی اور اُن کے ہم خدمت افسروں نے دارا بادشاہ کو ذیل کا خط بھیجا،

They sent a letter unto him, wherein was written thus; Unto Darius the king, all peace.

”دارا بادشاہ کو دل کی گہرائیوں سے سلام کہتے ہیں!

Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.

شہنشاہ کو علم ہو کہ صوبہ یہوداہ میں جا کر ہم نے دیکھا کہ وہاں عظیم خدا کا گھر بنایا جا رہا ہے۔ اُس کے لئے بڑے تراشے ہوئے پتھر استعمال ہو رہے ہیں اور دیواروں میں شہتیر لگائے جا رہے ہیں۔ لوگ بڑی جاں فشانی سے کام کر رہے ہیں، اور مکان اُن کی محنت کے باعث تیزی سے بن رہا ہے۔

Then asked we those elders, and said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house, and to make up these walls?

ہم نے بزرگوں سے پوچھا، ’کس نے آپ کو یہ گھر بنانے اور اِس کا ڈھانچا تکمیل تک پہنچانے کی اجازت دی ہے؟‘

We asked their names also, to certify thee, that we might write the names of the men that were the chief of them.

ہم نے اُن کے نام بھی معلوم کئے تاکہ لکھ کر آپ کو بھیج سکیں۔

And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.

اُنہوں نے ہمیں جواب دیا، ’ہم آسمان و زمین کے خدا کے خادم ہیں، اور ہم اُس گھر کو از سرِ نو تعمیر کر رہے ہیں جو بہت سال پہلے یہاں قائم تھا۔ اسرائیل کے ایک عظیم بادشاہ نے اُسے قدیم زمانے میں بنا کر تکمیل تک پہنچایا تھا۔

But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.

لیکن ہمارے باپ دادا نے آسمان کے خدا کو طیش دلایا، اور نتیجے میں اُس نے اُنہیں بابل کے بادشاہ نبوکدنضر کے حوالے کر دیا جس نے رب کے گھر کو تباہ کر دیا اور قوم کو قید کر کے بابل میں بسا دیا۔

But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon the same king Cyrus made a decree to build this house of God.

لیکن بعد میں جب خورس بادشاہ بن گیا تو اُس نے اپنی حکومت کے پہلے سال میں حکم دیا کہ اللہ کے اِس گھر کو دوبارہ تعمیر کیا جائے۔

And the vessels also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought them into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one, whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor;

ساتھ ساتھ اُس نے سونے چاندی کی وہ چیزیں واپس کر دیں جو نبوکدنضر نے یروشلم میں اللہ کے گھر سے لُوٹ کر بابل کے مندر میں رکھ دی تھیں۔ خورس نے یہ چیزیں ایک آدمی کے سپرد کر دیں جس کا نام شیس بضر تھا اور جسے اُس نے یہوداہ کا گورنر مقرر کیا تھا۔

And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.

اُس نے اُسے حکم دیا کہ سامان کو یروشلم لے جاؤ اور رب کے گھر کو پرانی جگہ پر از سرِ نو تعمیر کر کے یہ چیزیں اُس میں محفوظ رکھو۔

Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished.

تب شیس بضر نے یروشلم آ کر اللہ کے گھر کی بنیاد رکھی۔ اُسی وقت سے یہ عمارت زیرِ تعمیر ہے، اگرچہ یہ آج تک مکمل نہیں ہوئی۔‘

Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king's treasure house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.

چنانچہ اگر شہنشاہ کو منظور ہو تو وہ تفتیش کریں کہ کیا بابل کے شاہی دفتر میں کوئی ایسی دستاویز موجود ہے جو اِس بات کی تصدیق کرے کہ خورس بادشاہ نے یروشلم میں رب کے گھر کو از سرِ نو تعمیر کرنے کا حکم دیا۔ گزارش ہے کہ شہنشاہ ہمیں اپنا فیصلہ پہنچا دیں۔“
