II Chronicles 32

After these things, and the establishment thereof, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fenced cities, and thought to win them for himself.

حِزقیاہ نے وفاداری سے یہ تمام منصوبے تکمیل تک پہنچائے۔ پھر ایک دن اسور کا بادشاہ سنحیرب اپنی فوج کے ساتھ یہوداہ میں گھس آیا اور قلعہ بند شہروں کا محاصرہ کرنے لگا تاکہ اُن پر قبضہ کرے۔

And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,

جب حِزقیاہ کو اطلاع ملی کہ سنحیرب آ کر یروشلم پر حملہ کرنے کی تیاریاں کر رہا ہے

He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him.

تو اُس نے اپنے سرکاری اور فوجی افسروں سے مشورہ کیا۔ خیال یہ پیش کیا گیا کہ یروشلم شہر کے باہر تمام چشموں کو ملبے سے بند کیا جائے۔ سب متفق ہو گئے،

So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?

کیونکہ اُنہوں نے کہا، ”اسور کے بادشاہ کو یہاں آ کر کثرت کا پانی کیوں ملے؟“ بہت سے آدمی جمع ہوئے اور مل کر چشموں کو ملبے سے بند کر دیا۔ اُنہوں نے اُس زمین دوز نالے کا منہ بھی بند کر دیا جس کے ذریعے پانی شہر میں پہنچتا تھا۔

Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.

اِس کے علاوہ حِزقیاہ نے بڑی محنت سے فصیل کے ٹوٹے پھوٹے حصوں کی مرمت کروا کر اُس پر بُرج بنوائے۔ فصیل کے باہر اُس نے ایک اَور چاردیواری تعمیر کی جبکہ یروشلم کے اُس حصے کے چبوترے مزید مضبوط کروائے جو ’داؤد کا شہر‘ کہلاتا ہے۔ ساتھ ساتھ اُس نے بڑی مقدار میں ہتھیار اور ڈھالیں بنوائیں۔

And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city, and spake comfortably to them, saying,

حِزقیاہ نے لوگوں پر فوجی افسر مقرر کئے۔ پھر اُس نے سب کو دروازے کے ساتھ والے چوک پر اکٹھا کر کے اُن کی حوصلہ افزائی کی،

Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:

”مضبوط اور دلیر ہوں! اسور کے بادشاہ اور اُس کی بڑی فوج کو دیکھ کر مت ڈریں، کیونکہ جو طاقت ہمارے ساتھ ہے وہ اُسے حاصل نہیں ہے۔

With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

اسور کے بادشاہ کے لئے صرف خاکی آدمی لڑ رہے ہیں جبکہ رب ہمارا خدا ہمارے ساتھ ہے۔ وہی ہماری مدد کر کے ہمارے لئے لڑے گا!“ حِزقیاہ بادشاہ کے اِن الفاظ سے لوگوں کی بڑی حوصلہ افزائی ہوئی۔

After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,

جب اسور کا بادشاہ سنحیرب اپنی پوری فوج کے ساتھ لکیس کا محاصرہ کر رہا تھا تو اُس نے وہاں سے یروشلم کو وفد بھیجا تاکہ یہوداہ کے بادشاہ حِزقیاہ اور یہوداہ کے تمام باشندوں کو پیغام پہنچائے،

Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, Whereon do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?

”شاہِ اسور سنحیرب فرماتے ہیں، تمہارا بھروسا کس چیز پر ہے کہ تم محاصرے کے وقت یروشلم کو چھوڑنا نہیں چاہتے؟

Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The LORD our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

جب حِزقیاہ کہتا ہے، ’رب ہمارا خدا ہمیں اسور کے بادشاہ سے بچائے گا‘ تو وہ تمہیں غلط راہ پر لا رہا ہے۔ اِس کا صرف یہ نتیجہ نکلے گا کہ تم بھوکے اور پیاسے مر جاؤ گے۔

Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?

حِزقیاہ نے تو اِس خدا کی بےحرمتی کی ہے۔ کیونکہ اُس نے اُس کی اونچی جگہوں کے مندروں اور قربان گاہوں کو ڈھا کر یہوداہ اور یروشلم سے کہا ہے کہ ایک ہی قربان گاہ کے سامنے پرستش کریں، ایک ہی قربان گاہ پر قربانیاں چڑھائیں۔

Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?

کیا تمہیں علم نہیں کہ مَیں اور میرے باپ دادا نے دیگر ممالک کی تمام قوموں کے ساتھ کیا کچھ کیا؟ کیا اِن قوموں کے دیوتا اپنے ملکوں کو مجھ سے بچانے کے قابل رہے ہیں؟ ہرگز نہیں!

Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?

میرے باپ دادا نے اِن سب کو تباہ کر دیا، اور کوئی بھی دیوتا اپنی قوم کو مجھ سے بچا نہ سکا۔ تو پھر تمہارا دیوتا تمہیں کس طرح مجھ سے بچائے گا؟

Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?

حِزقیاہ سے فریب نہ کھاؤ! وہ اِس طرح تمہیں غلط راہ پر نہ لائے۔ اُس کی بات پر اعتماد مت کرنا، کیونکہ اب تک کسی بھی قوم یا سلطنت کا دیوتا اپنی قوم کو میرے یا میرے باپ دادا کے قبضے سے چھٹکارا نہ دلا سکا۔ تو پھر تمہارا دیوتا تمہیں میرے قبضے سے کس طرح بچائے گا؟“

And his servants spake yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah.

ایسی باتیں کرتے کرتے سنحیرب کے افسر رب اسرائیل کے خدا اور اُس کے خادم حِزقیاہ پر کفر بکتے گئے۔

He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.

اسور کے بادشاہ نے وفد کے ہاتھ خط بھی بھیجا جس میں اُس نے رب اسرائیل کے خدا کی اہانت کی۔ خط میں لکھا تھا، ”جس طرح دیگر ممالک کے دیوتا اپنی قوموں کو مجھ سے محفوظ نہ رکھ سکے اُسی طرح حِزقیاہ کا دیوتا بھی اپنی قوم کو میرے قبضے سے نہیں بچائے گا۔“

Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews' speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

اسوری افسروں نے بلند آواز سے عبرانی زبان میں بادشاہ کا پیغام فصیل پر کھڑے یروشلم کے باشندوں تک پہنچایا تاکہ اُن میں خوف و ہراس پھیل جائے اور یوں شہر پر قبضہ کرنے میں آسانی ہو جائے۔

And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.

اِن افسروں نے یروشلم کے خدا کا یوں تمسخر اُڑایا جیسا وہ دنیا کی دیگر قوموں کے دیوتاؤں کا اُڑایا کرتے تھے، حالانکہ دیگر معبود صرف انسانی ہاتھوں کی پیداوار تھے۔

And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.

پھر حِزقیاہ بادشاہ اور آموص کے بیٹے یسعیاہ نبی نے چلّاتے ہوئے آسمان پر تخت نشین خدا سے التماس کی۔

And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.

جواب میں رب نے اسوریوں کی لشکرگاہ میں ایک فرشتہ بھیجا جس نے تمام بہترین فوجیوں کو افسروں اور کمانڈروں سمیت موت کے گھاٹ اُتار دیا۔ چنانچہ سنحیرب شرمندہ ہو کر اپنے ملک لوٹ گیا۔ وہاں ایک دن جب وہ اپنے دیوتا کے مندر میں داخل ہوا تو اُس کے کچھ بیٹوں نے اُسے تلوار سے قتل کر دیا۔

Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side.

اِس طرح رب نے حِزقیاہ اور یروشلم کے باشندوں کو شاہِ اسور سنحیرب سے چھٹکارا دلایا۔ اُس نے اُنہیں دوسری قوموں کے حملوں سے بھی محفوظ رکھا، اور چاروں طرف امن و امان پھیل گیا۔

And many brought gifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.

بےشمار لوگ یروشلم آئے تاکہ رب کو قربانیاں پیش کریں اور حِزقیاہ بادشاہ کو قیمتی تحفے دیں۔ اُس وقت سے تمام قومیں اُس کا بڑا احترام کرنے لگیں۔

In those days Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto the LORD: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.

اُن دنوں میں حِزقیاہ اِتنا بیمار ہوا کہ مرنے کی نوبت آ پہنچی۔ تب اُس نے رب سے دعا کی، اور رب نے اُس کی سن کر ایک الٰہی نشان سے اِس کی تصدیق کی۔

But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.

لیکن حِزقیاہ مغرور ہوا، اور اُس نے اِس مہربانی کا مناسب جواب نہ دیا۔ نتیجے میں رب اُس سے اور یہوداہ اور یروشلم سے ناراض ہوا۔

Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

پھر حِزقیاہ اور یروشلم کے باشندوں نے پچھتا کر اپنا غرور چھوڑ دیا، اِس لئے رب کا غضب حِزقیاہ کے جیتے جی اُن پر نازل نہ ہوا۔

And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels;

حِزقیاہ کو بہت دولت اور عزت حاصل ہوئی، اور اُس نے اپنی سونے چاندی، جواہر، بلسان کے قیمتی تیل، ڈھالوں اور باقی قیمتی چیزوں کے لئے خاص خزانے بنوائے۔

Storehouses also for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks.

اُس نے غلہ، انگور کا رس اور زیتون کا تیل محفوظ رکھنے کے لئے گودام تعمیر کئے اور اپنے گائےبَیلوں اور بھیڑبکریوں کو رکھنے کی بہت سی جگہیں بھی بنوا لیں۔

Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much.

اُس کے گائےبَیلوں اور بھیڑبکریوں میں اضافہ ہوتا گیا، اور اُس نے کئی نئے شہروں کی بنیاد رکھی، کیونکہ اللہ نے اُسے نہایت ہی امیر بنا دیا تھا۔

This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

حِزقیاہ ہی نے جیحون چشمے کا منہ بند کر کے اُس کا پانی سرنگ کے ذریعے مغرب کی طرف یروشلم کے اُس حصے میں پہنچایا جو ’داؤد کا شہر‘ کہلاتا ہے۔ جو بھی کام اُس نے شروع کیا اُس میں وہ کامیاب رہا۔

Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

ایک دن بابل کے حکمرانوں نے اُس کے پاس وفد بھیجا تاکہ اُس الٰہی نشان کے بارے میں معلومات حاصل کریں جو یہوداہ میں ہوا تھا۔ اُس وقت اللہ نے اُسے اکیلا چھوڑ دیا تاکہ اُس کے دل کی حقیقی حالت جانچ لے۔

Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

باقی جو کچھ حِزقیاہ کی حکومت کے دوران ہوا اور جو نیک کام اُس نے کیا وہ ’آموص کے بیٹے یسعیاہ نبی کی رویا‘ میں قلم بند ہے جو ’شاہانِ یہوداہ و اسرائیل‘ کی کتاب میں درج ہے۔

And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chiefest of the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.

جب وہ مر کر اپنے باپ دادا سے جا ملا تو اُسے شاہی قبرستان کی ایک اونچی جگہ پر دفنایا گیا۔ جب جنازہ نکلا تو یہوداہ اور یروشلم کے تمام باشندوں نے اُس کا احترام کیا۔ پھر اُس کا بیٹا منسّی تخت نشین ہوا۔
