I Samuel 7

And the men of Kirjath–jearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.

یہ سن کر قِریَت یعریم کے مرد آئے اور رب کا صندوق اپنے شہر میں لے گئے۔ وہاں اُنہوں نے اُسے ابی نداب کے گھر میں رکھ دیا جو پہاڑی پر تھا۔ ابی نداب کے بیٹے اِلی عزر کو مخصوص کیا گیا تاکہ وہ عہد کے صندوق کی پہرہ داری کرے۔

And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjath–jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.

عہد کا صندوق 20 سال کے طویل عرصے تک قِریَت یعریم میں پڑا رہا۔ اِس دوران تمام اسرائیل ماتم کرتا رہا، کیونکہ لگتا تھا کہ رب نے اُنہیں ترک کر دیا ہے۔

And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.

پھر سموایل نے تمام اسرائیلیوں سے کہا، ”اگر آپ واقعی رب کے پاس واپس آنا چاہتے ہیں تو اجنبی معبودوں اور عستارات دیوی کے بُت دُور کر دیں۔ پورے دل کے ساتھ رب کے تابع ہو کر اُسی کی خدمت کریں۔ پھر ہی وہ آپ کو فلستیوں سے بچائے گا۔“

Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.

اسرائیلیوں نے اُس کی بات مان لی۔ وہ بعل اور عستارات کے بُتوں کو پھینک کر صرف رب کی خدمت کرنے لگے۔

And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD.

تب سموایل نے اعلان کیا، ”پورے اسرائیل کو مِصفاہ میں جمع کریں تو مَیں وہاں رب سے دعا کر کے آپ کی سفارش کروں گا۔“

And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.

چنانچہ وہ سب مِصفاہ میں جمع ہوئے۔ توبہ کا اظہار کر کے اُنہوں نے کنوئیں سے پانی نکال کر رب کے حضور اُنڈیل دیا۔ ساتھ ساتھ اُنہوں نے پورا دن روزہ رکھا اور اقرار کیا، ”ہم نے رب کا گناہ کیا ہے۔“ وہاں مِصفاہ میں سموایل نے اسرائیلیوں کے لئے کچہری لگائی۔

And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

فلستی حکمرانوں کو پتا چلا کہ اسرائیلی مِصفاہ میں جمع ہوئے ہیں تو وہ اُن سے لڑنے کے لئے آئے۔ یہ سن کر اسرائیلی سخت گھبرا گئے

And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.

اور سموایل سے منت کی، ”دعا کرتے رہیں! رب ہمارے خدا سے التماس کرنے سے نہ رُکیں تاکہ وہ ہمیں فلستیوں سے بچائے۔“

And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him.

تب سموایل نے بھیڑ کا دودھ پیتا بچہ چن کر رب کو بھسم ہونے والی قربانی کے طور پر پیش کیا۔ ساتھ ساتھ وہ رب سے التماس کرتا رہا۔ اور رب نے اُس کی سنی۔

And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.

سموایل ابھی قربانی پیش کر رہا تھا کہ فلستی وہاں پہنچ کر اسرائیلیوں پر حملہ کرنے کے لئے تیار ہوئے۔ لیکن اُس دن رب نے زور سے کڑکتی ہوئی آواز سے فلستیوں کو اِتنا دہشت زدہ کر دیا کہ وہ درہم برہم ہو گئے اور اسرائیلی آسانی سے اُنہیں شکست دے سکے۔

And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Beth–car.

اسرائیلیوں نے مِصفاہ سے نکل کر بیت کار کے نیچے تک دشمن کا تعاقب کیا۔ راستے میں بہت سے فلستی ہلاک ہوئے۔

Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Eben–ezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.

اِس فتح کی یاد میں سموایل نے مِصفاہ اور شین کے درمیان ایک بڑا پتھر نصب کر دیا۔ اُس نے پتھر کا نام ابن عزر یعنی ’مدد کا پتھر‘ رکھا۔ کیونکہ اُس نے کہا، ”یہاں تک رب نے ہماری مدد کی ہے۔“

So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

اِس طرح فلستیوں کو مغلوب کیا گیا، اور وہ دوبارہ اسرائیل کے علاقے میں نہ گھسے۔ جب تک سموایل جیتا رہا فلستیوں پر رب کا سخت دباؤ رہا۔

And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.

اور عقرون سے لے کر جات تک جتنی اسرائیلی آبادیاں فلستیوں کے ہاتھ میں آ گئی تھیں وہ سب اُن کی زمینوں سمیت دوبارہ اسرائیل کے قبضے میں آ گئیں۔ اموریوں کے ساتھ بھی صلح ہو گئی۔

And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

سموایل اپنے جیتے جی اسرائیل کا قاضی اور راہنما رہا۔

And he went from year to year in circuit to Beth–el, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.

ہر سال وہ بیت ایل، جِلجال اور مِصفاہ کا دورہ کرتا، کیونکہ اِن تین جگہوں پر وہ اسرائیلیوں کے لئے کچہری لگایا کرتا تھا۔

And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.

اِس کے بعد وہ دوبارہ رامہ اپنے گھر واپس آ جاتا جہاں مستقل کچہری تھی۔ وہاں اُس نے رب کے لئے قربان گاہ بھی بنائی تھی۔
