I Samuel 11

Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabesh–gilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.

کچھ دیر کے بعد عمونی بادشاہ ناحس نے اپنی فوج لے کر یبیس جِلعاد کا محاصرہ کیا۔ یبیس کے تمام افراد نے اُس سے گزارش کی، ”ہمارے ساتھ معاہدہ کریں تو ہم آئندہ آپ کے تابع رہیں گے۔“

And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel.

ناحس نے جواب دیا، ”ٹھیک ہے، لیکن اِس شرط پر کہ مَیں ہر ایک کی دہنی آنکھ نکال کر تمام اسرائیل کی بےعزتی کروں گا!“

And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days' respite, that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee.

یبیس کے بزرگوں نے درخواست کی، ”ہمیں ایک ہفتے کی مہلت دیجئے تاکہ ہم اپنے قاصدوں کو اسرائیل کی ہر جگہ بھیجیں۔ اگر کوئی ہمیں بچانے کے لئے نہ آئے تو ہم ہتھیار ڈال کر شہر کو آپ کے حوالے کر دیں گے۔“

Then came the messengers to Gibeah of Saul, and told the tidings in the ears of the people: and all the people lifted up their voices, and wept.

قاصد ساؤل کے شہر جِبعہ بھی پہنچ گئے۔ جب مقامی لوگوں نے اُن کا پیغام سنا تو پورا شہر پھوٹ پھوٹ کر رونے لگا۔

And, behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said, What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh.

اُس وقت ساؤل اپنے بَیلوں کو کھیتوں سے واپس لا رہا تھا۔ اُس نے پوچھا، ”کیا ہوا ہے؟ لوگ کیوں رو رہے ہیں؟“ اُسے قاصدوں کا پیغام سنایا گیا۔

And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.

تب ساؤل پر اللہ کا روح نازل ہوا، اور اُسے سخت غصہ آیا۔

And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.

اُس نے بَیلوں کا جوڑا لے کر اُنہیں ٹکڑے ٹکڑے کر دیا۔ پھر قاصدوں کو یہ ٹکڑے پکڑا کر اُس نے اُنہیں یہ پیغام دے کر اسرائیل کی ہر جگہ بھیج دیا، ”جو ساؤل اور سموایل کے پیچھے چل کر عمونیوں سے لڑنے نہیں جائے گا اُس کے بَیل اِسی طرح ٹکڑے ٹکڑے کر دیئے جائیں گے!“ یہ خبر سن کر لوگوں پر رب کی دہشت طاری ہو گئی، اور سب کے سب ایک دل ہو کر عمونیوں سے لڑنے کے لئے نکلے۔

And when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.

بزق کے قریب ساؤل نے فوج کا جائزہ لیا۔ یہوداہ کے 30,000 افراد تھے اور باقی قبیلوں کے 3,00,000۔

And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabesh–gilead, To morrow, by that time the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and shewed it to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.

اُنہوں نے یبیس جِلعاد کے قاصدوں کو واپس بھیج کر بتایا، ”کل دوپہر سے پہلے پہلے آپ کو بچا لیا جائے گا۔“ وہاں کے باشندے یہ خبر سن کر بہت خوش ہوئے۔

Therefore the men of Jabesh said, To morrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth good unto you.

اُنہوں نے عمونیوں کو اطلاع دی، ”کل ہم ہتھیار ڈال کر شہر کے دروازے کھول دیں گے۔ پھر وہ کچھ کریں جو آپ کو ٹھیک لگے۔“

And it was so on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.

اگلے دن صبح سویرے ساؤل نے فوج کو تین حصوں میں تقسیم کیا۔ سورج کے طلوع ہونے سے پہلے پہلے اُنہوں نے تین سمتوں سے دشمن کی لشکرگاہ پر حملہ کیا۔ دوپہر تک اُنہوں نے عمونیوں کو مار مار کر ختم کر دیا۔ جو تھوڑے بہت لوگ بچ گئے وہ یوں تتر بتر ہو گئے کہ دو بھی اکٹھے نہ رہے۔

And the people said unto Samuel, Who is he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death.

فتح کے بعد لوگ سموایل کے پاس آ کر کہنے لگے، ”وہ لوگ کہاں ہیں جنہوں نے اعتراض کیا کہ ساؤل ہم پر حکومت کرے؟ اُنہیں لے آئیں تاکہ ہم اُنہیں مار دیں۔“

And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day: for to day the LORD hath wrought salvation in Israel.

لیکن ساؤل نے اُنہیں روک دیا۔ اُس نے کہا، ”نہیں، آج تو ہم کسی بھی بھائی کو سزائے موت نہیں دیں گے، کیونکہ اِس دن رب نے اسرائیل کو رِہائی بخشی ہے!“

Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.

پھر سموایل نے اعلان کیا، ”آؤ، ہم جِلجال جا کر دوبارہ اِس کی تصدیق کریں کہ ساؤل ہمارا بادشاہ ہے۔“

And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

چنانچہ تمام لوگوں نے جِلجال جا کر رب کے حضور اِس کی تصدیق کی کہ ساؤل ہمارا بادشاہ ہے۔ اِس کے بعد اُنہوں نے رب کے حضور سلامتی کی قربانیاں پیش کر کے بڑا جشن منایا۔
