I Chronicles 19

Now it came to pass after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his stead.

کچھ دیر کے بعد عمونیوں کا بادشاہ ناحس فوت ہوا، اور اُس کا بیٹا تخت نشین ہوا۔

And David said, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father shewed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.

داؤد نے سوچا، ”ناحس نے ہمیشہ مجھ پر مہربانی کی تھی، اِس لئے اب مَیں بھی اُس کے بیٹے حنون پر مہربانی کروں گا۔“ اُس نے باپ کی وفات کا افسوس کرنے کے لئے حنون کے پاس وفد بھیجا۔ لیکن جب داؤد کے سفیر عمونیوں کے دربار میں پہنچ گئے تاکہ حنون کے سامنے افسوس کا اظہار کریں

But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?

تو اُس ملک کے بزرگ حنون بادشاہ کے کان میں منفی باتیں بھرنے لگے، ”کیا داؤد نے اِن آدمیوں کو واقعی صرف اِس لئے بھیجا ہے کہ وہ افسوس کر کے آپ کے باپ کا احترام کریں؟ ہرگز نہیں! یہ صرف بہانہ ہے۔ اصل میں یہ جاسوس ہیں جو ہمارے ملک کے بارے میں معلومات حاصل کرنا چاہتے ہیں تاکہ اُس پر قبضہ کر سکیں۔“

Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the midst hard by their buttocks, and sent them away.

چنانچہ حنون نے داؤد کے آدمیوں کو پکڑوا کر اُن کی داڑھیاں منڈوا دیں اور اُن کے لباس کو کمر سے لے کر پاؤں تک کاٹ کر اُتروایا۔ اِسی حالت میں بادشاہ نے اُنہیں فارغ کر دیا۔

Then there went certain, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.

جب داؤد کو اِس کی خبر ملی تو اُس نے اپنے قاصدوں کو اُن سے ملنے کے لئے بھیجا تاکہ اُنہیں بتائیں، ”یریحو میں اُس وقت تک ٹھہرے رہیں جب تک آپ کی داڑھیاں دوبارہ بحال نہ ہو جائیں۔“ کیونکہ وہ اپنی داڑھیوں کی وجہ سے بڑی شرمندگی محسوس کر رہے تھے۔

And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Syria–maachah, and out of Zobah.

عمونیوں کو خوب معلوم تھا کہ اِس حرکت سے ہم داؤد کے دشمن بن گئے ہیں۔ اِس لئے حنون اور عمونیوں نے مسوپتامیہ، اَرام معکہ اور ضوباہ کو چاندی کے 34,000 کلو گرام بھیج کر کرائے پر رتھ اور رتھ سوار منگوائے۔

So they hired thirty and two thousand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people; who came and pitched before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.

یوں اُنہیں 32,000 رتھ اُن کے سواروں سمیت مل گئے۔ معکہ کا بادشاہ بھی اپنے دستوں کے ساتھ اُن سے متحد ہوا۔ میدبا کے قریب اُنہوں نے اپنی لشکرگاہ لگائی۔ عمونی بھی اپنے شہروں سے نکل کر جنگ کے لئے جمع ہوئے۔

And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.

جب داؤد کو اِس کا علم ہوا تو اُس نے یوآب کو پوری فوج کے ساتھ اُن کا مقابلہ کرنے کے لئے بھیج دیا۔

And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array before the gate of the city: and the kings that were come were by themselves in the field.

عمونی اپنے دار الحکومت ربّہ سے نکل کر شہر کے دروازے کے سامنے ہی صف آرا ہوئے جبکہ دوسرے ممالک سے آئے ہوئے بادشاہ کچھ فاصلے پر کھلے میدان میں کھڑے ہو گئے۔

Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose out of all the choice of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.

جب یوآب نے جان لیا کہ سامنے اور پیچھے دونوں طرف سے حملے کا خطرہ ہے تو اُس نے اپنی فوج کو دو حصوں میں تقسیم کر دیا۔ سب سے اچھے فوجیوں کے ساتھ وہ خود شام کے سپاہیوں سے لڑنے کے لئے تیار ہوا۔

And the rest of the people he delivered unto the hand of Abishai his brother, and they set themselves in array against the children of Ammon.

باقی آدمیوں کو اُس نے اپنے بھائی ابی شے کے حوالے کر دیا تاکہ وہ عمونیوں سے لڑیں۔

And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee.

ایک دوسرے سے الگ ہونے سے پہلے یوآب نے ابی شے سے کہا، ”اگر شام کے فوجی مجھ پر غالب آنے لگیں تو میرے پاس آ کر میری مدد کرنا۔ لیکن اگر آپ عمونیوں پر قابو نہ پا سکیں تو مَیں آ کر آپ کی مدد کروں گا۔

Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the LORD do that which is good in his sight.

حوصلہ رکھیں! ہم دلیری سے اپنی قوم اور اپنے خدا کے شہروں کے لئے لڑیں۔ اور رب وہ کچھ ہونے دے جو اُس کی نظر میں ٹھیک ہے۔“

So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh before the Syrians unto the battle; and they fled before him.

یوآب نے اپنی فوج کے ساتھ شام کے فوجیوں پر حملہ کیا تو وہ اُس کے سامنے سے بھاگنے لگے۔

And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.

یہ دیکھ کر عمونی بھی اُس کے بھائی ابی شے سے فرار ہو کر شہر میں داخل ہوئے۔ تب یوآب یروشلم واپس چلا گیا۔

And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.

جب شام کے فوجیوں کو شکست کی بےعزتی کا احساس ہوا تو اُنہوں نے دریائے فرات کے پار مسوپتامیہ میں آباد اَرامیوں کے پاس قاصد بھیجے تاکہ وہ بھی لڑنے میں مدد کریں۔ ہدد عزر کا کمانڈر سوفک اُن پر مقرر ہوا۔

And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel, and passed over Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.

جب داؤد کو خبر ملی تو اُس نے اسرائیل کے تمام لڑنے کے قابل آدمیوں کو جمع کیا اور دریائے یردن کو پار کر کے اُن کے مقابل صف آرا ہوا۔ جب وہ یوں اُن سے لڑنے کے لئے تیار ہوا تو اَرامی اُس کا مقابلہ کرنے لگے۔

But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand men which fought in chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.

لیکن اُنہیں دوبارہ شکست مان کر فرار ہونا پڑا۔ اِس دفعہ اُن کے 7,000 رتھ بانوں کے علاوہ 40,000 پیادہ سپاہی ہلاک ہوئے۔ داؤد نے فوج کے کمانڈر سوفک کو بھی مار ڈالا۔

And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.

جو اَرامی پہلے ہدد عزر کے تابع تھے اُنہوں نے اب ہار مان کر اسرائیلیوں سے صلح کر لی اور اُن کے تابع ہو گئے۔ اُس وقت سے اَرامیوں نے عمونیوں کی مدد کرنے کی پھر جرٲت نہ کی۔
