Psalms 12

Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.

Al Capo de’ musici. Sopra l’ottava. Salmo di Davide. Salva, o Eterno, poiché l’uomo pio vien meno, e i fedeli vengono a mancare tra i figliuoli degli uomini.

They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.

Ciascuno mentisce parlando col prossimo; parlano con labbro lusinghiero e con cuor doppio.

The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:

L’Eterno recida tutte le labbra lusinghiere, la lingua che parla alteramente,

Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?

quelli che dicono: Con le nostre lingue prevarremo; le nostre labbra sono per noi; chi sarà signore su noi?

For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.

Per l’oppressione dei miseri, per il grido d’angoscia de’ bisognosi, ora mi leverò, dice l’Eterno; darò loro la salvezza alla quale anelano.

The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

Le parole dell’Eterno son parole pure, sono argento affinato in un crogiuolo di terra, purificato sette volte.

Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

Tu, o Eterno, li proteggerai, li preserverai da questa generazione in perpetuo.

The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.

Gli empi vanno attorno da tutte le parti quando la bassezza siede in alto tra i figliuoli degli uomini.
