But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

امّا قوم اسرائیل علاوه بر انبیای راستین، انبیای دروغین هم داشتند و شما هم در میان خود، معلّمین دروغین خواهید داشت. آنها مخفیانه تعالیم غلط و زیان‌بخش به میان شما خواهند آورد و همان مولایی را كه آنها را خرید، انكار خواهند نمود و بلای ناگهانی بر سر خود خواهند آورد.

And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

عدّهٔ زیادی، آنها و راههای هرزهٔ آنها را دنبال خواهند كرد و به‌خاطر ایشان راه حقیقت مورد اهانت قرار خواهد گرفت.

And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

از روی طمع و با داستانهای جعلی خود، شما را استثمار خواهند كرد، امّا كیفری كه از مدّتها پیش برای آنان مقرّر شده بود در انتظار آنها و هلاكت در كمین آنان است.

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

شما می‌دانید، كه خدا فرشتگانی را كه گناه كردند بدون تنبیه رها نكرد، بلكه آنان را به گودالهای تاریک دوزخ فرستاد تا در آنجا برای داوری نگهداری شوند.

And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

خدا همچنین دنیای قدیم را بدون كیفر نگذاشت، بلكه بر دنیای بدكاران سیل جاری ساخت. تنها کسانی‌که نجات یافتند نوح، آن رسول راستی و درستی با هفت نفر دیگر بود.

And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

خدا شهرهای سدوم و غموره را محكوم و ویران ساخته و به خاكستر تبدیل كرد تا برای آدمیان دیگر كه می‌خواهند در گناه زندگی كنند، عبرتی باشد.

And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

خدا لوط را كه مردی نیک بود و از رفتار هرزهٔ شریران رنج می‌برد، رها ساخت.

(For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

زیرا آن مرد نیكو كه در میان آنان به سر می‌بُرد، همه‌روزه کارهای زشتی را می‌دید و می‌شنید كه قلب پاكش را عذاب می‌داد.

The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

پس به این نتیجه می‌رسیم كه خدا می‌داند چطور نیک‌مردان را از وسوسه‌ها و آزمایشها برهاند و چگونه شریران را تا روز بازپسین تحت عقوبت نگه‌دارد،

But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.

مخصوصاً آنانی كه خود را به همه‌نوع شهوات زشت و ناپاک سپرده‌اند و هر قدرتی را خوار می‌شمارند. این معلّمین دروغین، بی‌باک و خودبین هستند و هیچ حرمتی به موجودات آسمانی نشان نمی‌دهند و برعکس به آنان اهانت می‌نمایند.

Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.

حتّی فرشتگان كه از این معلّمین دروغین بسیار قویتر و تواناترند این موجودات آسمانی را در پیشگاه خداوند با بد زبانی متّهم نمی‌سازند.

But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

امّا این اشخاص مانند جانوران وحشی و بی‌شعور، فقط به این منظور به این دنیا آمدند كه اسیر گردند و كشته شوند. به چیزهایی توهین می‌کنند كه نمی‌فهمند، پس مثل حیوانات وحشی نابود خواهند شد.

And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;

و در عوض بدی كه کرده‌اند، بدی خواهند دید. خوشی آنان در این است كه در روز روشن شهوات نفسانی خود را ارضاء نمایند. آنها لکه‌ها و زخمهای گندیدهٔ بدن شما هستند و وقتی بر سر سفره شما می‌آیند، از اینکه فكر می‌کنند شما را فریب داده‌اند، لذّت می‌برند.

Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

آنها نمی‌خواهند به هیچ چیز به جز روسپیان نظر كنند و اشتهای آنها برای گناه سیری ناپذیر است. و آنها افرادی را كه هنوز در ایمان قوی نشده‌اند، با اغوا به دام خود می‌اندازند. دلهایشان با طمع و حسادت خو گرفته است و زیر لعنت خدا هستند.

Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

راه راست را ترک گفته و منحرف شده‌اند، از راهی رفته‌اند كه «بلعام» پسر بصور در پیش گرفت؛ کسی‌که پولی را كه مزد خلافكاری‌اش بود، دوست می‌داشت.

But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.

امّا او به‌خاطر خلافكاری خود سرزنش شد زیرا الاغ زبان بسته‌ای به صدای انسان تكلّم كرد و کارهای دیوانه‌وار آن نبی را متوقّف ساخت.

These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.

این اشخاص مانند چشمه‌های خشكیده و یا ابرهایی هستند كه جلوی بادهای توفانی رانده می‌شوند و تاریكی غلیظ دوزخ در انتظار آنهاست.

For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.

سخنان كبر‌آمیز و احمقانه به زبان می‌آورند و با استفاده از طعمهٔ شهوات جسمانی و هرزگی، كسانی را كه تازه از یک زندگی غلط و گناه‌آلود فرار کرده‌اند، به‌ دام می‌اندازند.

While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

به آنان وعدهٔ آزادی می‌دهند درحالی‌که خودشان بردگان فساد هستند؛ زیرا آدمی بردهٔ هر چیزی است كه او را مغلوب خود ساخته است.

For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

آنان یک‌بار از راه معرفت خداوند و نجات‌دهندهٔ ما عیسی مسیح از ناپاکی‌های این دنیا دست شستند ولی اگر بار دیگر آنها گرفتار و مغلوب ناپاكی‌ها شوند، حالت آخر آنها از اولشان بدتر خواهد بود.

For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

برای آنان بهتر می‌بود كه هرگز راه نیكی مطلق را نمی‌شناختند تا اینکه آن را بشناسند و از آن فرمان مقدّس كه به آنان داده شد، روی بگردانند.

But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

آنچه برای آنان اتّفاق افتاد نشان می‌دهد كه این مثل راست است: «سگ به طرف آنچه استفراغ كرده است، بر می‌گردد.» و «خوكی كه شسته شده است، برای غلتیدن در گِل باز می‌گردد.»
