II Corinthians 7

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

ای عزیزان، این وعده‌ها به ما داده شده است، پس ما چقدر باید خود را از هر چیزی كه جسم و جان ما را آلوده می‌سازد پاک كنیم و با خداترسی خود را کاملاً مقدّس سازیم.

Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.

قلبهای خود را به سوی ما بگشایید. ما نسبت به هیچ‌کس به ناحق رفتار نكردیم. اخلاق كسی را فاسد نساختیم و كلاهبرداری نكردیم.

I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you.

من نمی‌خواهم با سخنان خود شما را محكوم سازم، زیرا چنانکه قبلاً گفته بودم، شما آن‌قدر در نزد ما عزیز هستید که نه مرگ می‌تواند شما را از ما جدا سازد، نه زندگی.

Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.

من چقدر به شما اطمینان دارم و چقدر به شما افتخار می‌کنم! و با وجود تمام زحمات و مشكلاتی كه داریم، من دلگرمی و شادی زیادی دارم.

For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.

مثلاً وقتی به مقدونیه رسیدیم نه تنها نتوانستیم برای رفع خستگی خود كمی استراحت كنیم بلكه از هر طرف دچار زحمت شدیم. از یک طرف با دیگران در نزاع بودیم و از طرف دیگر باطناً می‌ترسیدیم.

Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

امّا خدا كه به دلشكستگان دلداری می‌دهد، با آمدن تیطُس به ما دلگرمی ‌بخشید.

And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.

تنها آمدن او نبود كه ما را خوشحال ساخت، بلكه تشویق شما از او نیز در شادی ما مؤثر بود. او به من گفت كه شما چقدر می‌خواهید مرا ببینید و چگونه از كاری كه كرده بودید، پشیمان شده‌اید و چقدر اكنون از من دفاع می‌کنید. این چیزها شادی مرا بیشتر كرده است.

For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.

با اینکه نامهٔ من باعث ناراحتی شما گردیده است، من از نوشتن آن پشیمان نیستم. وقتی دیدم كه آن نامه باعث رنجش شما شده بود (اگرچه موقّتی بود) تا مدّتی از نوشتن آن پشیمان شده بودم،

Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

امّا حالا خوشحالم، نه به علّت رنجی كه متحمّل شدید، بلكه به سبب اینكه این غم سبب شد كه شما راه خود را عوض كنید. زیرا مطابق ارادهٔ خدا شما دچار درد و رنج شدید تا به این وسیله از تنبیه ما کاملاً در امان باشید.

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

وقتی متحمّل چنین رنجی می‌شوید و آن را ارادهٔ خدا می‌دانید، این باعث توبه و در نتیجه نجات شما می‌گردد و هیچ پشیمانی به دنبال ندارد. امّا درد و رنج دنیوی باعث مرگ می‌شود.

For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

ببینید، درد و رنجی كه مطابق ارادهٔ خدا تحمّل کرده‌اید چه صفات نیكویی در شما به وجود آورده است: جدیّت، دفاع از بی‌گناهی خویش و ناراحتی در مقابل بی‌عدالتی‌ها، ترس از شرارت، اشتیاق و غیرت و تعصّب برای به كیفر رسانیدن خطاكاران! شما خوب نشان دادید كه در تمام جریان بی‌تقصیر هستید.

Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.

من آن نامه را به‌خاطر آن شخص ظالم و یا آن مظلوم ننوشتم، بلكه تا بر شما معلوم شود كه میزان علاقه و اطاعت شما نسبت به ما در حضور خدا چقدر زیاد است.

Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.

بنابراین مخصوصاً وقتی دیدیم تیطُس از اینکه همهٔ شما موجب آرامش و آسودگی خیال او شدید شاد و خوشحال است، ما بسیار دلگرم شدیم.

For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth.

من پیش او از شما زیاد تعریف كردم و شما آبروی مرا حفظ كردید! آری، همان‌طور كه سخنان ما دربارهٔ شما تماماً راست بود، فخر ما نیز پیش تیطُس به حقیقت پیوست.

And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.

و هر وقت او اطاعت شما را و آن ترس و لرزی كه در زمان ملاقات با او نشان دادید، به‌یاد می‌آورد محبّتش نسبت به شما بیشتر می‌شود.

I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things.

من چقدر خوشحالم كه می‌توانم از هر حیث به شما اطمینان داشته باشم.
