Hosea 8

خداوند می‌فرماید: «شیپور خطر را بنوازید! دشمنان مانند عقاب بر سر قوم من هجوم می‌آورند، زیرا قوم من پیمان مرا شکسته و از تعالیم من سرپیچی کرده‌اند.

Set the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the LORD, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.

با اینکه مرا خدای خود می‌خوانند و ادّعا می‌کنند که قوم من هستند و مرا می‌شناسند،

Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.

اسرائیل نیکویی را ترک کرده است، بنابراین دشمنان در تعقیب آنها هستند.

Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

«آنها بدون مشورت من، برای خود پادشاه تعیین کردند و رهبران خود را بدون موافقت من برگزیدند. برای خود بُتهایی از طلا و نقره ساختند، بنابراین نابود خواهند شد.

They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

ای سامره، از گوسالهٔ طلایی تو نفرت دارم. آتش خشم من علیه ساکنان تو برافروخته شده است. کی از بت‌پرستی و گناه دست می‌کشی؟

Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast thee off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will it be ere they attain to innocency?

آن گوساله، خدا نیست! بلکه ساختهٔ دست یک صنعتگر اسرائیلی است. گوسالهٔ سامره تکه‌تکه خواهد شد.

For from Israel was it also: the workman made it; therefore it is not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

آنها باد را می‌کارند و گردباد را درو می‌کنند. زمین آنها محصولی نخواهد داد و اگر محصولی هم بدهد، خوراک بیگانگان می‌شود.

For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.

اسرائیل از بین رفته و نزد اقوام دیگر مانند ظرفی شکسته و بی‌مصرف شده است.

Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein is no pleasure.

مثل گورخری تنها و آواره گردیده است و از آشور کمک می‌طلبد و برای حمایت خود اقوام دیگر را اجیر می‌کند.

For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers.

حالا من ایشان را جمع می‌کنم و به اسارت می‌فرستم تا در زیر بار ظلم امپراتور آشور و مأموران او از پا بیفتند.

Yea, though they have hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little for the burden of the king of princes.

«آنها قربانگاههای زیادی برای آمرزش گناه ساختند، امّا آن قربانگاهها خود مکانی برای گناه کردن شدند.

Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.

برای آنها احکام بی‌شماری نوشتم، ولی آنها همهٔ آن احکام را بیگانه پنداشته، رد کردند.

I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.

گرچه آنها برای من قربانی‌هایی تقدیم می‌کنند و گوشت آنها را می‌خورند، امّا من هیچ‌یک از آن قربانی‌ها را نمی‌پسندم. خطاهایشان را فراموش نمی‌کنم و آنها را به‌خاطر گناهشان جزا می‌دهم و به مصر بازمی‌گردانم.

They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the LORD accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

«اسرائیل خالق خود را فراموش کرده و برای خود قصرها ساخته است. یهودا به تعداد شهرهای مستحکم خود افزوده است، ولی من آتشی را خواهم فرستاد تا این قصرها و شهرها را به خاکستر تبدیل کند.»

For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.
