Acts 6

در آن زمان كه تعداد شاگردان زیادتر می‌شد یهودیان یونانی زبان از یهودیان عبری زبان شكایت كردند كه در تقسیم خوراک روزانه، بیوه زنهای یونانی زبان از نظر دور می‌مانند.

And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

پس آن دوازده رسول كلّیه شاگردان را احضار كردند و گفتند: «شایسته نیست ما به‌خاطر رسانیدن غذا به دیگران از اعلام كلام خدا غافل بمانیم.

Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

پس ای دوستان، از میان خودتان هفت نفر از مردان نیک نام و پر از روح‌القدس و با حكمت را انتخاب كنید تا آنان را مأمور انجام این وظیفه بنماییم

Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

و امّا ما وقت خود را صرف دعا و تعلیم كلام خدا خواهیم نمود.»

But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

این پیشنهاد مورد قبول تمام حاضران در مجلس واقع شد و استیفان مردی پر از ایمان و روح‌القدس و فیلیپُس، پرخروس، نیكانور، تیمون، پرمیناس و نیكلاوس را كه قبلاً به دین یهود گرویده و اهل انطاكیه بود، برگزیدند.

And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

این عدّه به رسولان معرّفی شدند و رسولان دست بر سر آنان گذارده برای آنها دعا كردند.

Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

پیام خدا پیوسته در حال انتشار بود و در اورشلیم تعداد شاگردان بسیار افزایش یافت و بسیاری از كاهنان نیز ایمان به مسیح را پذیرفتند.

And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

استیفان پر از فیض و قدرت، به انجام نشانه‌ها و عجایب عظیم در میان قوم یهود پرداخت.

And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

تعدادی از اعضای كنیسه‌ای به نام كنیسهٔ «آزادگان» مركب از قیروانیان و اسكندریان و همچنین اهالی قیلیقیه و استان آسیا پیش آمدند و با استیفان به مباحثه پرداختند.

Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

امّا استیفان چنان با حكمت و قدرت روح سخن می‌گفت كه آنها نتوانستند در برابرش مقاومت نمایند.

And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

بنابراین چند نفر را وادار كردند كه بگویند «ما شنیدیم كه استیفان نسبت به موسی و خدا سخنان كفرآمیز می‌گفت.»

Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

و به این ترتیب آنها مردم و مشایخ و علما را تحریک كردند و بر استیفان هجوم آوردند و او را دستگیر نموده پیش شورا بردند

And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

و چند نفر شاهد دروغ را آوردند و آنان گفتند: «این شخص همیشه برخلاف این مكان مقدّس و شریعت موسی سخن می‌گوید،

And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

زیرا ما با گوش خود شنیدیم كه او می‌گفت: عیسای ناصری این مكان را خراب می‌کند و سنّت‌هایی را كه موسی به ما سپرده است تغییر خواهد داد.»

For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

در این هنگام همهٔ اعضای شورا كه به استیفان خیره شده بودند، دیدند كه صورت او مانند صورت یک فرشته می‌درخشد.

And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.
