II Samuel 24

ایک بار پھر رب کو اسرائیل پر غصہ آیا، اور اُس نے داؤد کو اُنہیں مصیبت میں ڈالنے پر اُکسا کر اُس کے ذہن میں مردم شماری کرنے کا خیال ڈال دیا۔

And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.

چنانچہ داؤد نے فوج کے کمانڈر یوآب کو حکم دیا، ”دان سے لے کر بیرسبع تک اسرائیل کے تمام قبیلوں میں سے گزرتے ہوئے جنگ کرنے کے قابل مردوں کو گن لیں تاکہ معلوم ہو جائے کہ اُن کی کُل تعداد کیا ہے۔“

For the king said to Joab the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer–sheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people.

لیکن یوآب نے اعتراض کیا، ”اے بادشاہ میرے آقا، کاش رب آپ کا خدا آپ کے دیکھتے دیکھتے فوجیوں کی تعداد سَو گُنا بڑھائے۔ لیکن میرے آقا اور بادشاہ اُن کی مردم شماری کیوں کرنا چاہتے ہیں؟“

And Joab said unto the king, Now the LORD thy God add unto the people, how many soever they be, an hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?

لیکن بادشاہ یوآب اور فوج کے بڑے افسروں کے اعتراضات کے باوجود اپنی بات پر ڈٹا رہا۔ چنانچہ وہ دربار سے روانہ ہو کر اسرائیل کے مردوں کی فہرست تیار کرنے لگے۔

Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.

دریائے یردن کو عبور کر کے اُنہوں نے عروعیر اور وادیِ ارنون کے بیچ کے شہر میں شروع کیا۔ وہاں سے وہ جد اور یعزیر سے ہو کر

And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lieth in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer:

جِلعاد اور حِتّیوں کے ملک کے شہر قادس تک پہنچے۔ پھر آگے بڑھتے بڑھتے وہ دان اور صیدا کے گرد و نواح کے علاقے

Then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtim–hodshi; and they came to Dan–jaan, and about to Zidon,

اور قلعہ بند شہر صور اور حِوّیوں اور کنعانیوں کے تمام شہروں تک پہنچ گئے۔ آخرکار اُنہوں نے یہوداہ کے جنوب کی مردم شماری بیرسبع تک کی۔

And came to the strong hold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites: and they went out to the south of Judah, even to Beer–sheba.

یوں پورے ملک میں سفر کرتے کرتے وہ 9 مہینوں اور 20 دنوں کے بعد یروشلم واپس آئے۔

So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.

یوآب نے بادشاہ کو مردم شماری کی پوری رپورٹ پیش کی۔ اسرائیل میں تلوار چلانے کے قابل 8 لاکھ افراد تھے جبکہ یہوداہ کے 5 لاکھ مرد تھے۔

And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

لیکن اب داؤد کا ضمیر اُس کو ملامت کرنے لگا۔ اُس نے رب سے دعا کی، ”مجھ سے سنگین گناہ سرزد ہوا ہے۔ اے رب، اب اپنے خادم کا قصور معاف کر۔ مجھ سے بڑی حماقت ہوئی ہے۔“

And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

اگلے دن جب داؤد صبح کے وقت اُٹھا تو اُس کے غیب بین جاد نبی کو رب کی طرف سے پیغام مل گیا،

For when David was up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,

”داؤد کے پاس جا کر اُسے بتا دینا، ’رب تجھے تین سزائیں پیش کرتا ہے۔ اِن میں سے ایک چن لے‘۔“

Go and say unto David, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.

جاد داؤد کے پاس گیا اور اُسے رب کا پیغام سنا دیا۔ اُس نے سوال کیا، ”آپ کس سزا کو ترجیح دیتے ہیں؟ اپنے ملک میں سات سال کے دوران کال؟ یا یہ کہ آپ کے دشمن آپ کو بھگا کر تین ماہ تک آپ کا تعاقب کرتے رہیں؟ یا یہ کہ آپ کے ملک میں تین دن تک وبا پھیل جائے؟ دھیان سے اِس کے بارے میں سوچیں تاکہ مَیں اُسے آپ کا جواب پہنچا سکوں جس نے مجھے بھیجا ہے۔“

So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

داؤد نے جواب دیا، ”ہائے، مَیں کیا کہوں؟ مَیں بہت پریشان ہوں۔ لیکن آدمیوں کے ہاتھ میں پڑنے کی نسبت بہتر ہے کہ مَیں رب ہی کے ہاتھ میں پڑ جاؤں، کیونکہ اُس کا رحم عظیم ہے۔“

And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.

تب رب نے اسرائیل میں وبا پھیلنے دی۔ وہ اُسی صبح شروع ہوئی اور تین دن تک لوگوں کو موت کے گھاٹ اُتارتی گئی۔ شمال میں دان سے لے کر جنوب میں بیرسبع تک کُل 70,000 افراد ہلاک ہوئے۔

So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer–sheba seventy thousand men.

لیکن جب وبا کا فرشتہ چلتے چلتے یروشلم تک پہنچ گیا اور اُس پر ہاتھ اُٹھانے لگا تو رب نے لوگوں کی مصیبت کو دیکھ کر ترس کھایا اور تباہ کرنے والے فرشتے کو حکم دیا، ”بس کر! اب باز آ۔“ اُس وقت رب کا فرشتہ وہاں کھڑا تھا جہاں ارَوناہ یبوسی اپنا اناج گاہتا تھا۔

And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.

جب داؤد نے فرشتے کو لوگوں کو مارتے ہوئے دیکھا تو اُس نے رب سے التماس کی، ”مَیں ہی نے گناہ کیا ہے، یہ میرا ہی قصور ہے۔ اِن بھیڑوں سے کیا غلطی ہوئی ہے؟ براہِ کرم اِن کو چھوڑ کر مجھے اور میرے خاندان کو سزا دے۔“

And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house.

اُسی دن جاد داؤد کے پاس آیا اور اُس سے کہا، ”ارَوناہ یبوسی کی گاہنے کی جگہ کے پاس جا کر اُس پر رب کی قربان گاہ بنا لے۔“

And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.

چنانچہ داؤد چڑھ کر گاہنے کی جگہ کے پاس آیا جس طرح رب نے جاد کی معرفت فرمایا تھا۔

And David, according to the saying of Gad, went up as the LORD commanded.

جب ارَوناہ نے بادشاہ اور اُس کے درباریوں کو اپنی طرف چڑھتا ہوا دیکھا تو وہ نکل کر بادشاہ کے سامنے اوندھے منہ جھک گیا۔

And Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground.

اُس نے پوچھا، ”میرے آقا اور بادشاہ میرے پاس کیوں آ گئے؟“ داؤد نے جواب دیا، ”مَیں آپ کی گاہنے کی جگہ خریدنا چاہتا ہوں تاکہ رب کے لئے قربان گاہ تعمیر کروں۔ کیونکہ یہ کرنے سے وبا رُک جائے گی۔“

And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people.

ارَوناہ نے کہا، ”میرے آقا اور بادشاہ، جو کچھ آپ کو اچھا لگے اُسے لے کر چڑھائیں۔ یہ بَیل بھسم ہونے والی قربانی کے لئے حاضر ہیں۔ اور اناج کو گاہنے اور بَیلوں کو جوتنے کا سامان قربان گاہ پر رکھ کر جلا دیں۔

And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, here be oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood.

بادشاہ سلامت، مَیں خوشی سے آپ کو یہ سب کچھ دے دیتا ہوں۔ دعا ہے کہ آپ رب اپنے خدا کو پسند آئیں۔“

All these things did Araunah, as a king, give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, The LORD thy God accept thee.

لیکن بادشاہ نے انکار کیا، ”نہیں، مَیں ضرور ہر چیز کی پوری قیمت ادا کروں گا۔ مَیں رب اپنے خدا کو ایسی کوئی بھسم ہونے والی قربانی پیش نہیں کروں گا جو مجھے مفت میں مل جائے۔“ چنانچہ داؤد نے بَیلوں سمیت گاہنے کی جگہ چاندی کے 50 سِکوں کے عوض خرید لی۔

And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

اُس نے وہاں رب کی تعظیم میں قربان گاہ تعمیر کر کے اُس پر بھسم ہونے والی اور سلامتی کی قربانیاں چڑھائیں۔ تب رب نے ملک کے لئے دعا سن کر وبا کو روک دیا۔

And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
