Judges 7

Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.

صبح سویرے یرُبعل یعنی جدعون اپنے تمام لوگوں کو ساتھ لے کر حرود چشمے کے پاس آیا۔ وہاں اُنہوں نے اپنے ڈیرے لگائے۔ مِدیانیوں نے اپنی خیمہ گاہ اُن کے شمال میں مورِہ پہاڑ کے دامن میں لگائی ہوئی تھی۔

And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

رب نے جدعون سے کہا، ”تیرے پاس زیادہ لوگ ہیں! مَیں اِس قسم کے بڑے لشکر کو مِدیانیوں پر فتح نہیں دوں گا، ورنہ اسرائیلی میرے سامنے ڈینگیں مار کر کہیں گے، ’ہم نے اپنی ہی طاقت سے اپنے آپ کو بچایا ہے!‘

Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.

اِس لئے لشکرگاہ میں اعلان کر کہ جو ڈر کے مارے پریشان ہو وہ اپنے گھر واپس چلا جائے۔“ جدعون نے یوں کیا تو 22,000 مرد واپس چلے گئے جبکہ 10,000 جدعون کے پاس رہے۔

And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.

لیکن رب نے دوبارہ جدعون سے بات کی، ”ابھی تک زیادہ لوگ ہیں! اِن کے ساتھ اُتر کر چشمے کے پاس جا۔ وہاں مَیں اُنہیں جانچ کر اُن کو مقرر کروں گا جنہیں تیرے ساتھ جانا ہے۔“

So he brought down the people unto the water: and the LORD said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.

چنانچہ جدعون اپنے آدمیوں کے ساتھ چشمے کے پاس اُتر آیا۔ رب نے اُسے حکم دیا، ”جو بھی اپنا ہاتھ پانی سے بھر کر اُسے کُتے کی طرح چاٹ لے اُسے ایک طرف کھڑا کر۔ دوسری طرف اُنہیں کھڑا کر جو گھٹنے ٹیک کر پانی پیتے ہیں۔“

And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.

300 آدمیوں نے اپنا ہاتھ پانی سے بھر کر اُسے چاٹ لیا جبکہ باقی سب پینے کے لئے جھک گئے۔

And the LORD said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.

پھر رب نے جدعون سے فرمایا، ”مَیں اِن 300 چاٹنے والے آدمیوں کے ذریعے اسرائیل کو بچا کر مِدیانیوں کو تیرے حوالے کر دوں گا۔ باقی تمام مردوں کو فارغ کر۔ وہ سب اپنے اپنے گھر واپس چلے جائیں۔“

So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

چنانچہ جدعون نے باقی تمام آدمیوں کو فارغ کر دیا۔ صرف مقررہ 300 مرد رہ گئے۔ اب یہ دوسروں کی خوراک اور نرسنگے اپنے پاس رکھ کر جنگ کے لئے تیار ہوئے۔ اُس وقت مِدیانی خیمہ گاہ اسرائیلیوں کے نیچے وادی میں تھی۔

And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand.

جب رات ہوئی تو رب جدعون سے ہم کلام ہوا، ”اُٹھ، مِدیانی خیمہ گاہ کے پاس اُتر کر اُس پر حملہ کر، کیونکہ مَیں اُسے تیرے ہاتھ میں دے دوں گا۔

But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host:

لیکن اگر تُو اِس سے ڈرتا ہے تو پہلے اپنے نوکر فُوراہ کے ساتھ اُتر کر

And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host.

وہ باتیں سن لے جو وہاں کے لوگ کہہ رہے ہیں۔ تب اُن پر حملہ کرنے کی جرٲت بڑھ جائے گی۔“ جدعون فُوراہ کے ساتھ خیمہ گاہ کے کنارے کے پاس اُتر آیا۔

And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.

مِدیانی، عمالیقی اور مشرق کے دیگر فوجی ٹڈیوں کے دَل کی طرح وادی میں پھیلے ہوئے تھے۔ اُن کے اونٹ ساحل کی ریت کی طرح بےشمار تھے۔

And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.

جدعون دبے پاؤں دشمن کے اِتنے قریب پہنچ گیا کہ اُن کی باتیں سن سکتا تھا۔ عین اُس وقت ایک فوجی دوسرے کو اپنا خواب سنا رہا تھا، ”مَیں نے خواب میں دیکھا کہ جَو کی بڑی روٹی لُڑھکتی لُڑھکتی ہماری خیمہ گاہ میں اُتر آئی۔ یہاں وہ اِتنی شدت سے خیمے سے ٹکرا گئی کہ خیمہ اُلٹ کر زمین بوس ہو گیا۔“

And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.

دوسرے نے جواب دیا، ”اِس کا صرف یہ مطلب ہو سکتا ہے کہ اسرائیلی مرد جدعون بن یوآس کی تلوار غالب آئے گی! اللہ اُسے مِدیانیوں اور پوری لشکرگاہ پر فتح دے گا۔“

And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.

خواب اور اُس کی تعبیر سن کر جدعون نے اللہ کو سجدہ کیا۔ پھر اُس نے اسرائیلی خیمہ گاہ میں واپس آ کر اعلان کیا، ”اُٹھیں! رب نے مِدیانی لشکرگاہ کو تمہارے حوالے کر دیا ہے۔“

And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man's hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.

اُس نے اپنے 300 مردوں کو سَو سَو کے تین گروہوں میں تقسیم کر کے ہر ایک کو ایک نرسنگا اور ایک گھڑا دے دیا۔ ہر گھڑے میں مشعل تھی۔

And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do.

اُس نے حکم دیا، ”جو کچھ مَیں کروں گا اُس پر غور کر کے وہی کچھ کریں۔ پوری خیمہ گاہ کو گھیر لیں اور عین وہی کچھ کریں جو مَیں کروں گا۔ جب مَیں اپنے سَو لوگوں کے ساتھ خیمہ گاہ کے کنارے پہنچوں گا تو ہم اپنے نرسنگوں کو بجا دیں گے۔ یہ سنتے ہی آپ بھی یہی کچھ کریں اور ساتھ ساتھ نعرہ لگائیں، ’رب کے لئے اور جدعون کے لئے‘!“

When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.

اُس نے حکم دیا، ”جو کچھ مَیں کروں گا اُس پر غور کر کے وہی کچھ کریں۔ پوری خیمہ گاہ کو گھیر لیں اور عین وہی کچھ کریں جو مَیں کروں گا۔ جب مَیں اپنے سَو لوگوں کے ساتھ خیمہ گاہ کے کنارے پہنچوں گا تو ہم اپنے نرسنگوں کو بجا دیں گے۔ یہ سنتے ہی آپ بھی یہی کچھ کریں اور ساتھ ساتھ نعرہ لگائیں، ’رب کے لئے اور جدعون کے لئے‘!“

So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands.

تقریباً آدھی رات کو جدعون اپنے سَو مردوں کے ساتھ مِدیانی خیمہ گاہ کے کنارے پہنچ گیا۔ تھوڑی دیر پہلے پہرے دار بدل گئے تھے۔ اچانک اسرائیلیوں نے اپنے نرسنگوں کو بجایا اور اپنے گھڑوں کو ٹکڑے ٹکڑے کر دیا۔

And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.

فوراً سَو سَو کے دوسرے دو گروہوں نے بھی ایسا ہی کیا۔ اپنے دہنے ہاتھ میں نرسنگا اور بائیں ہاتھ میں بھڑکتی مشعل پکڑ کر وہ نعرہ لگاتے رہے، ”رب کے لئے اور جدعون کے لئے!“

And they stood every man in his place round about the camp: and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.

لیکن وہ خیمہ گاہ میں داخل نہ ہوئے بلکہ وہیں اُس کے ارد گرد کھڑے رہے۔ دشمن میں بڑی افرا تفری مچ گئی۔ چیختے چلّاتے سب بھاگ جانے کی کوشش کرنے لگے۔

And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the LORD set every man's sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Beth–shittah in Zererath, and to the border of Abel–meholah, unto Tabbath.

جدعون کے 300 آدمی اپنے نرسنگے بجاتے رہے جبکہ رب نے خیمہ گاہ میں ایسی گڑبڑ پیدا کی کہ لوگ ایک دوسرے سے لڑنے لگے۔ آخرکار پورا لشکر بیت سِطّہ، صریرات اور ابیل محولہ کی سرحد تک فرار ہوا جو طبّات کے قریب ہے۔

And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after the Midianites.

پھر جدعون نے نفتالی، آشر اور پورے منسّی کے مردوں کو بُلا لیا، اور اُنہوں نے مل کر مِدیانیوں کا تعاقب کیا۔

And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, Come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters unto Beth–barah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and took the waters unto Beth–barah and Jordan.

اُس نے اپنے قاصدوں کے ذریعے افرائیم کے پورے پہاڑی علاقے کے باشندوں کو بھی پیغام بھیج دیا، ”اُتر آئیں اور مِدیانیوں کو بھاگ جانے سے روکیں! بیت بارہ تک اُن تمام جگہوں پر قبضہ کر لیں جہاں دشمن دریائے یردن کو پا پیادہ پار کر سکتا ہے۔“ افرائیمی مان گئے،

And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan.

اور اُنہوں نے دو مِدیانی سرداروں کو پکڑ کر اُن کے سر قلم کر دیئے۔ سرداروں کے نام عوریب اور زئیب تھے، اور جہاں اُنہیں پکڑا گیا اُن جگہوں کے نام ’عوریب کی چٹان‘ اور ’زئیب کا انگور کا رس نکالنے والا حوض‘ پڑ گیا۔ اِس کے بعد وہ دوبارہ مِدیانیوں کا تعاقب کرنے لگے۔ دریائے یردن کو پار کرنے پر اُن کی ملاقات جدعون سے ہوئی، اور اُنہوں نے دونوں سرداروں کے سر اُس کے سپرد کر دیئے۔
