Joshua 14

And these are the countries which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance to them.

اسرائیل کے باقی ساڑھے نو قبیلوں کو دریائے یردن کے مغرب میں یعنی ملکِ کنعان میں زمین مل گئی۔ اِس کے لئے اِلی عزر امام، یشوع بن نون اور قبیلوں کے آبائی گھرانوں کے سربراہوں نے

By lot was their inheritance, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe.

قرعہ ڈال کر مقرر کیا کہ ہر قبیلے کو کون کون سا علاقہ مل جائے۔ یوں ویسا ہی ہوا جس طرح رب نے موسیٰ کو حکم دیا تھا۔

For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and an half tribe on the other side Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave none inheritance among them.

موسیٰ اڑھائی قبیلوں کو اُن کی موروثی زمین دریائے یردن کے مشرق میں دے چکا تھا، کیونکہ یوسف کی اولاد کے دو قبیلے منسّی اور افرائیم وجود میں آئے تھے۔ لیکن لاویوں کو اُن کے درمیان زمین نہ مل گئی۔ اسرائیلیوں نے لاویوں کو زمین نہ دی بلکہ اُنہیں صرف رہائش کے لئے شہر اور ریوڑوں کے لئے چراگاہیں دیں۔

For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.

موسیٰ اڑھائی قبیلوں کو اُن کی موروثی زمین دریائے یردن کے مشرق میں دے چکا تھا، کیونکہ یوسف کی اولاد کے دو قبیلے منسّی اور افرائیم وجود میں آئے تھے۔ لیکن لاویوں کو اُن کے درمیان زمین نہ مل گئی۔ اسرائیلیوں نے لاویوں کو زمین نہ دی بلکہ اُنہیں صرف رہائش کے لئے شہر اور ریوڑوں کے لئے چراگاہیں دیں۔

As the LORD commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land.

یوں اُنہوں نے زمین کو اُن ہی ہدایات کے مطابق تقسیم کیا جو رب نے موسیٰ کو دی تھیں۔

Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the LORD said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Kadesh–barnea.

جِلجال میں یہوداہ کے قبیلے کے مرد یشوع کے پاس آئے۔ یفُنّہ قنِزّی کا بیٹا کالب بھی اُن کے ساتھ تھا۔ اُس نے یشوع سے کہا، ”آپ کو یاد ہے کہ رب نے مردِ خدا موسیٰ سے آپ کے اور میرے بارے میں کیا کچھ کہا جب ہم قادس برنیع میں تھے۔

Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh–barnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart.

مَیں 40 سال کا تھا جب رب کے خادم موسیٰ نے مجھے ملکِ کنعان کا جائزہ لینے کے لئے قادس برنیع سے بھیج دیا۔ جب واپس آیا تو مَیں نے موسیٰ کو دیانت داری سے سب کچھ بتایا جو دیکھا تھا۔

Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God.

افسوس کہ جو بھائی میرے ساتھ گئے تھے اُنہوں نے لوگوں کو ڈرایا۔ لیکن مَیں رب اپنے خدا کا وفادار رہا۔

And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children's for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God.

اُس دن موسیٰ نے قَسم کھا کر مجھ سے وعدہ کیا، ’جس زمین پرتیرے پاؤں چلے ہیں وہ ہمیشہ تک تیری اور تیری اولاد کی وراثت میں رہے گی۔ کیونکہ تُو رب میرے خدا کا وفادار رہا ہے۔‘

And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.

اور اب ایسا ہی ہوا ہے جس طرح رب نے وعدہ کیا تھا۔ اُس نے مجھے اب تک زندہ رہنے دیا ہے۔ رب کو موسیٰ سے یہ بات کئے 45 سال گزر گئے ہیں۔ اُس سارے عرصے میں ہم ریگستان میں گھومتے پھرتے رہے ہیں۔ آج مَیں 85 سال کا ہوں،

As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.

اور اب تک اُتنا ہی طاقت ور ہوں جتنا کہ اُس وقت تھا جب مَیں جاسوس تھا۔ اب تک میری باہر نکلنے اور جنگ کرنے کی وہی قوت قائم ہے۔

Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.

اب مجھے وہ پہاڑی علاقہ دے دیں جس کا وعدہ رب نے اُس دن مجھ سے کیا تھا۔ آپ نے خود سنا ہے کہ عناقی وہاں بڑے قلعہ بند شہروں میں بستے ہیں۔ لیکن شاید رب میرے ساتھ ہو اور مَیں اُنہیں نکال دوں جس طرح اُس نے فرمایا ہے۔“

And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.

تب یشوع نے کالب بن یفُنّہ کو برکت دے کر اُسے وراثت میں حبرون دے دیا۔

Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.

پہلے حبرون قِریَت اربع یعنی اربع کا شہر کہلاتا تھا۔ اربع عناقیوں کا سب سے بڑا آدمی تھا۔ آج تک یہ شہر کالب کی اولاد کی ملکیت رہی ہے۔ وجہ یہ ہے کہ کالب رب اسرائیل کے خدا کا وفادار رہا۔ پھر جنگ ختم ہوئی، اور ملک میں امن و امان قائم ہو گیا۔

And the name of Hebron before was Kirjath–arba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.

پہلے حبرون قِریَت اربع یعنی اربع کا شہر کہلاتا تھا۔ اربع عناقیوں کا سب سے بڑا آدمی تھا۔ آج تک یہ شہر کالب کی اولاد کی ملکیت رہی ہے۔ وجہ یہ ہے کہ کالب رب اسرائیل کے خدا کا وفادار رہا۔ پھر جنگ ختم ہوئی، اور ملک میں امن و امان قائم ہو گیا۔
