Isaiah 44

Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen:

لیکن اب سن، اے یعقوب میرے خادم! میری بات پر توجہ دے، اے اسرائیل جسے مَیں نے چن لیا ہے۔

Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.

رب جس نے تجھے بنایا اور ماں کے پیٹ سے ہی تشکیل دے کر تیری مدد کرتا آیا ہے وہ فرماتا ہے، ’اے یعقوب میرے خادم، مت ڈر! اے یسورون جسے مَیں نے چن لیا ہے، خوف نہ کھا۔

For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:

کیونکہ مَیں پیاسی زمین پر پانی ڈالوں گا اور خشکی پر ندیاں بہنے دوں گا۔ مَیں اپنا روح تیری اولاد پر نازل کروں گا، اپنی برکت تیرے بچوں کو بخشوں گا۔

And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.

تب وہ پانی کے درمیان کی ہریالی کی طرح پھوٹ نکلیں گے، نہروں پر سفیدہ کے درختوں کی طرح پھلیں پھولیں گے۔‘

One shall say, I am the LORD'S; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel.

ایک کہے گا، ’مَیں رب کا ہوں،‘ دوسرا یعقوب کا نام لے کر پکارے گا اور تیسرا اپنے ہاتھ پر ’رب کا بندہ‘ لکھ کر اسرائیل کا اعزازی نام رکھے گا۔“

Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

رب الافواج جو اسرائیل کا بادشاہ اور چھڑانے والا ہے فرماتا ہے، ”مَیں اوّل اور آخر ہوں۔ میرے سوا کوئی اَور خدا نہیں ہے۔

And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.

کون میری مانند ہے؟ وہ آواز دے کر بتائے اور اپنے دلائل پیش کرے۔ وہ ترتیب سے سب کچھ سنائے جو اُس قدیم وقت سے ہوا ہے جب مَیں نے اپنی قوم کو قائم کیا۔ وہ آنے والی باتوں کا اعلان کر کے بتائے کہ آئندہ کیا کچھ پیش آئے گا۔

Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.

گھبرا کر دہشت زدہ نہ ہو۔ کیا مَیں نے بہت دیر پہلے تجھے اطلاع نہیں دی تھی کہ یہ کچھ پیش آئے گا؟ تم خود میرے گواہ ہو۔ کیا میرے سوا کوئی اَور خدا ہے؟ ہرگز نہیں! اَور کوئی چٹان نہیں ہے، مَیں کسی اَور کو نہیں جانتا۔“

They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.

بُت بنانے والے سب ہیچ ہی ہیں، اور جو چیزیں اُنہیں پیاری لگتی ہیں وہ بےفائدہ ہیں۔ اُن کے گواہ نہ دیکھ اور نہ جان سکتے ہیں، لہٰذا آخرکار شرمندہ ہو جائیں گے۔

Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing?

یہ کس طرح کے لوگ ہیں جو اپنے لئے دیوتا بناتے اور بےفائدہ بُت ڈھال لیتے ہیں؟

Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together.

اُن کے تمام ساتھی شرمندہ ہو جائیں گے۔ آخر بُت بنانے والے انسان ہی تو ہیں۔ آؤ، وہ سب جمع ہو کر خدا کے حضور کھڑے ہو جائیں۔ کیونکہ وہ دہشت کھا کر سخت شرمندہ ہو جائیں گے۔

The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint.

لوہار اوزار لے کر اُسے جلتے ہوئے کوئلوں میں استعمال کرتا ہے۔ پھر وہ اپنے ہتھوڑے سے ٹھونک ٹھونک کر بُت کو تشکیل دیتا ہے۔ پورے زور سے کام کرتے کرتے وہ طاقت کا جواب دینے تک بھوکا ہو جاتا، پانی نہ پینے کی وجہ سے نڈھال ہو جاتا ہے۔

The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.

جب بُت کو لکڑی سے بنانا ہے تو کاری گر فیتے سے ناپ کر پنسل سے لکڑی پر خاکہ کھینچتا ہے۔ پرکار بھی کام آ جاتا ہے۔ پھر کاری گر لکڑی کو چھری سے تراش تراش کر آدمی کی شکل بناتا ہے۔ یوں شاندار آدمی کا مجسمہ کسی کے گھر میں لگنے کے لئے تیار ہو جاتا ہے۔

He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it.

کاری گر بُت بنانے کے لئے دیودار کا درخت کاٹ لیتا ہے۔ کبھی کبھی وہ بلوط یا کسی اَور قسم کا درخت چن کر اُسے جنگل کے دیگر درختوں کے بیچ میں اُگنے دیتا ہے۔ یا وہ صنوبر کا درخت لگاتا ہے، اور بارش اُسے پھلنے پھولنے دیتی ہے۔

Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.

دھیان دو کہ انسان لکڑی کو ایندھن کے لئے بھی استعمال کرتا، کچھ لے کر آگ تاپتا، کچھ جلا کر روٹی پکاتا ہے۔ باقی حصے سے وہ بُت بنا کر اُسے سجدہ کرتا، دیوتا کا مجسمہ تیار کر کے اُس کے سامنے جھک جاتا ہے۔

He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire:

وہ لکڑی کا آدھا حصہ جلا کر اُس پر اپنا گوشت بھونتا، پھر جی بھر کر کھانا کھاتا ہے۔ ساتھ ساتھ وہ آگ سینک کر کہتا ہے، ”واہ، آگ کی گرمی کتنی اچھی لگ رہی ہے، اب گرمی محسوس ہو رہی ہے۔“

And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.

لیکن باقی لکڑی سے وہ اپنے لئے دیوتا کا بُت بناتا ہے جس کے سامنے وہ جھک کر پوجا کرتا ہے۔ اُس سے وہ التماس کرتا ہے، ”مجھے بچا، کیونکہ تُو میرا دیوتا ہے۔“

They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

یہ لوگ کچھ نہیں جانتے، کچھ نہیں سمجھتے۔ اُن کی آنکھوں اور دلوں پر پردہ پڑا ہے، اِس لئے نہ وہ دیکھ سکتے، نہ سمجھ سکتے ہیں۔

And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?

وہ اِس پر غور نہیں کرتے، اُنہیں فہم اور سمجھ تک نہیں کہ سوچیں، ”مَیں نے لکڑی کا آدھا حصہ آگ میں جھونک کر اُس کے کوئلوں پر روٹی پکائی اور گوشت بھون لیا۔ یہ چیزیں کھانے کے بعد مَیں باقی لکڑی سے قابلِ گھن بُت کیوں بناؤں، لکڑی کے ٹکڑے کے سامنے کیوں جھک جاؤں؟“

He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

جو یوں راکھ میں ملوث ہو جائے اُس نے دھوکا کھایا، اُس کے دل نے اُسے فریب دیا ہے۔ وہ اپنی جان چھڑا کر نہیں مان سکتا کہ جو بُت مَیں دہنے ہاتھ میں تھامے ہوئے ہوں وہ جھوٹ ہے۔

Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me.

”اے یعقوب کی اولاد، اے اسرائیل، یاد رکھ کہ تُو میرا خادم ہے۔ مَیں نے تجھے تشکیل دیا، تُو میرا ہی خادم ہے۔ اے اسرائیل، مَیں تجھے کبھی نہیں بھولوں گا۔

I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.

مَیں نے تیرے جرائم اور گناہوں کو مٹا ڈالا ہے، وہ دھوپ میں دُھند یا تیز ہَوا سے بکھرے بادلوں کی طرح اوجھل ہو گئے ہیں۔ اب میرے پاس واپس آ، کیونکہ مَیں نے عوضانہ دے کر تجھے چھڑایا ہے۔“

Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.

اے آسمان، خوشی کے نعرے لگا، کیونکہ رب نے سب کچھ کیا ہے۔ اے زمین کی گہرائیو، شادیانہ بجاؤ! اے پہاڑو اور جنگلو، اپنے تمام درختوں سمیت خوشی کے گیت گاؤ، کیونکہ رب نے عوضانہ دے کر یعقوب کو چھڑایا ہے، اسرائیل میں اُس نے اپنا جلال ظاہر کیا ہے۔

Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;

رب تیرا چھڑانے والا جس نے تجھے ماں کے پیٹ سے ہی تشکیل دیا فرماتا ہے، ”مَیں رب ہوں۔ مَیں ہی سب کچھ وجود میں لایا، مَیں نے اکیلے ہی آسمان کو زمین کے اوپر تان لیا اور زمین کو بچھایا۔

That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;

مَیں ہی قسمت کا حال بتانے والوں کے عجیب و غریب نشان ناکام ہونے دیتا، فال کھولنے والوں کو احمق ثابت کرتا اور داناؤں کو پیچھے ہٹا کر اُن کے علم کی حماقت ظاہر کرتا ہوں۔

That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:

مَیں ہی اپنے خادم کا کلام پورا ہونے دیتا اور اپنے پیغمبروں کا منصوبہ تکمیل تک پہنچاتا ہوں، مَیں ہی یروشلم کے بارے میں فرماتا ہوں، ’وہ دوبارہ آباد ہو جائے گا،‘ اور یہوداہ کے شہروں کے بارے میں، ’وہ نئے سرے سے تعمیر ہو جائیں گے، مَیں اُن کے کھنڈرات دوبارہ کھڑے کروں گا۔‘

That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:

مَیں ہی گہرے سمندر کو حکم دیتا ہوں، ’سوکھ جا، مَیں تیری گہرائیوں کو خشک کرتا ہوں۔‘

That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.

اور مَیں ہی نے خورس کے بارے میں فرمایا، ’یہ میرا گلہ بان ہے! یہی میری مرضی پوری کر کے کہے گا کہ یروشلم دوبارہ تعمیر کیا جائے، رب کے گھر کی بنیاد نئے سرے سے رکھی جائے‘!“
