Isaiah 17

The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

دمشق شہر کے بارے میں اللہ کا فرمان: ”دمشق مٹ جائے گا، ملبے کا ڈھیر ہی رہ جائے گا۔

The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

عروعیر کے شہر بھی ویران و سنسان ہو جائیں گے۔ تب ریوڑ ہی اُن کی گلیوں میں چریں گے اور آرام کریں گے۔ کوئی نہیں ہو گا جو اُنہیں بھگائے۔

The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.

اسرائیل کے قلعہ بند شہر نیست و نابود ہو جائیں گے، اور دمشق کی سلطنت جاتی رہے گی۔ شام کے جو لوگ بچ نکلیں گے اُن کا اور اسرائیل کی شان و شوکت کا ایک ہی انجام ہو گا۔“ یہ ہے رب الافواج کا فرمان۔

And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.

اُس دن یعقوب کی شان و شوکت کم اور اُس کا موٹا تازہ جسم لاغر ہوتا جائے گا۔

And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim.

فصل کی کٹائی کی سی حالت ہو گی۔ جس طرح کاٹنے والا ایک ہاتھ سے گندم کے ڈنٹھل کو پکڑ کر دوسرے سے بالوں کو کاٹتا ہے اُسی طرح اسرائیلیوں کو کاٹا جائے گا۔ اور جس طرح وادیِ رفائیم میں غریب لوگ فصل کاٹنے والوں کے پیچھے پیچھے چل کر بچی ہوئی بالیوں کو چنتے ہیں اُسی طرح اسرائیل کے بچے ہوؤں کو چنا جائے گا۔

Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel.

تاہم کچھ نہ کچھ بچا رہے گا، اُن دو چار زیتونوں کی طرح جو چنتے وقت درخت کی چوٹی پر رہ جاتے ہیں۔ درخت کو ڈنڈے سے جھاڑنے کے باوجود کہیں نہ کہیں چند ایک لگے رہیں گے۔“ یہ ہے رب، اسرائیل کے خدا کا فرمان۔

At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.

تب انسان اپنی نظر اپنے خالق کی طرف اُٹھائے گا، اور اُس کی آنکھیں اسرائیل کے قدوس کی طرف دیکھیں گی۔

And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.

آئندہ نہ وہ اپنے ہاتھوں سے بنی ہوئی قربان گاہوں کو تکے گا، نہ اپنی اُنگلیوں سے بنے ہوئے یسیرت دیوی کے کھمبوں اور بخور کی قربان گاہوں پر دھیان دے گا۔

In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.

اُس وقت اسرائیلی اپنے قلعہ بند شہروں کو یوں چھوڑیں گے جس طرح کنعانیوں نے اپنے جنگلوں اور پہاڑوں کی چوٹیوں کو اسرائیلیوں کے آگے آگے چھوڑا تھا۔ سب کچھ ویران و سنسان ہو گا۔

Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:

افسوس، تُو اپنی نجات کے خدا کو بھول گیا ہے۔ تجھے وہ چٹان یاد نہ رہی جس پر تُو پناہ لے سکتا ہے۔ چنانچہ اپنے پیارے دیوتاؤں کے باغ لگاتا جا، اور اُن میں پردیسی انگور کی قلمیں لگاتا جا۔

In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

شاید ہی وہ لگاتے وقت تیزی سے اُگنے لگیں، شاید ہی اُن کے پھول اُسی صبح کھلنے لگیں۔ توبھی تیری محنت عبث ہے۔ تُو کبھی بھی اُن کے پھل سے لطف اندوز نہیں ہو گا بلکہ محض بیماری اور لاعلاج درد کی فصل کاٹے گا۔

Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!

بےشمار قوموں کا شور شرابہ سنو جو طوفانی سمندر کی سی ٹھاٹھیں مار رہی ہیں۔ اُمّتوں کا غل غپاڑا سنو جو تھپیڑے مارنے والی موجوں کی طرح گرج رہی ہیں۔

The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

کیونکہ غیرقومیں پہاڑ نما لہروں کی طرح متلاطم ہیں۔ لیکن رب اُنہیں ڈانٹے گا تو وہ دُور دُور بھاگ جائیں گی۔ جس طرح پہاڑوں پر بھوسا ہَوا کے جھونکوں سے اُڑ جاتا اور لُڑھک بوٹی آندھی میں چکر کھانے لگتی ہے اُسی طرح وہ فرار ہو جائیں گی۔

And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.

شام کو اسرائیل سخت گھبرا جائے گا، لیکن پَو پھٹنے سے پہلے پہلے اُس کے دشمن مر گئے ہوں گے۔ یہی ہمیں لُوٹنے والوں کا نصیب، ہماری غارت گری کرنے والوں کا انجام ہو گا۔
