Deuteronomy 29

These are the words of the covenant, which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.

جب اسرائیلی موآب میں تھے تو رب نے موسیٰ کو حکم دیا کہ اسرائیلیوں کے ساتھ ایک اَور عہد باندھے۔ یہ اُس عہد کے علاوہ تھا جو رب حورب یعنی سینا پر اُن کے ساتھ باندھ چکا تھا۔

And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land;

اِس سلسلے میں موسیٰ نے تمام اسرائیلیوں کو بُلا کر کہا، ”تم نے خود دیکھا کہ رب نے مصر کے بادشاہ فرعون، اُس کے ملازموں اور پورے ملک کے ساتھ کیا کچھ کیا۔

The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles:

تم نے اپنی آنکھوں سے وہ بڑی آزمائشیں، الٰہی نشان اور معجزے دیکھے جن کے ذریعے رب نے اپنی قدرت کا اظہار کیا۔

Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.

مگر افسوس، آج تک رب نے تمہیں نہ سمجھ دار دل عطا کیا، نہ آنکھیں جو دیکھ سکیں یا کان جو سن سکیں۔

And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.

ریگستان میں مَیں نے 40 سال تک تمہاری راہنمائی کی۔ اِس دوران نہ تمہارے کپڑے پھٹے اور نہ تمہارے جوتے گھسے۔

Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the LORD your God.

نہ تمہارے پاس روٹی تھی، نہ مَے یا مَے جیسی کوئی اَور چیز۔ توبھی رب نے تمہاری ضروریات پوری کیں تاکہ تم سیکھ لو کہ وہی رب تمہارا خدا ہے۔

And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them:

پھر ہم یہاں آئے تو حسبون کا بادشاہ سیحون اور بسن کا بادشاہ عوج نکل کر ہم سے لڑنے آئے۔ لیکن ہم نے اُنہیں شکست دی۔

And we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of Manasseh.

اُن کے ملک پر قبضہ کر کے ہم نے اُسے روبن، جد اور منسّی کے آدھے قبیلے کو میراث میں دیا۔

Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.

اب احتیاط سے اِس عہد کی تمام شرائط پوری کرو تاکہ تم ہر بات میں کامیاب ہو۔

Ye stand this day all of you before the LORD your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Israel,

اِس وقت تم سب رب اپنے خدا کے حضور کھڑے ہو، تمہارے قبیلوں کے سردار، تمہارے بزرگ، نگہبان، مرد،

Your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water:

عورتیں اور بچے۔ تیرے درمیان رہنے والے پردیسی بھی لکڑہاروں سے لے کر پانی بھرنے والوں تک تیرے ساتھ یہاں حاضر ہیں۔

That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day:

تُو اِس لئے یہاں جمع ہوا ہے کہ رب اپنے خدا کا وہ عہد تسلیم کرے جو وہ آج قَسم کھا کر تیرے ساتھ باندھ رہا ہے۔

That he may establish thee to day for a people unto himself, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

اِس سے وہ آج اِس کی تصدیق کر رہا ہے کہ تُو اُس کی قوم اور وہ تیرا خدا ہے یعنی وہی بات جس کا وعدہ اُس نے تجھ سے اور تیرے باپ دادا ابراہیم، اسحاق اور یعقوب سے کیا تھا۔

Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath;

لیکن مَیں یہ عہد قَسم کھا کر نہ صرف تمہارے ساتھ جو حاضر ہو باندھ رہا ہوں بلکہ تمہاری آنے والی نسلوں کے ساتھ بھی۔

But with him that standeth here with us this day before the LORD our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day:

لیکن مَیں یہ عہد قَسم کھا کر نہ صرف تمہارے ساتھ جو حاضر ہو باندھ رہا ہوں بلکہ تمہاری آنے والی نسلوں کے ساتھ بھی۔

(For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by;

تم خود جانتے ہو کہ ہم مصر میں کس طرح زندگی گزارتے تھے۔ یہ بھی تمہیں یاد ہے کہ ہم کس طرح مختلف ممالک میں سے گزرتے ہوئے یہاں تک پہنچے۔

And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them:)

تم نے اُن کے نفرت انگیز بُت دیکھے جو لکڑی، پتھر، چاندی اور سونے کے تھے۔

Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;

دھیان دو کہ یہاں موجود کوئی بھی مرد، عورت، کنبہ یا قبیلہ رب اپنے خدا سے ہٹ کر دوسری قوموں کے دیوتاؤں کی پوجا نہ کرے۔ ایسا نہ ہو کہ تمہارے درمیان کوئی جڑ پھوٹ کر زہریلا اور کڑوا پھل لائے۔

And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:

تم سب نے وہ لعنتیں سنی ہیں جو رب نافرمانوں پر بھیجے گا۔ توبھی ہو سکتا ہے کہ کوئی اپنے آپ کو رب کی برکت کا وارث سمجھ کر کہے، ”بےشک مَیں اپنی غلط راہوں سے ہٹنے کے لئے تیار نہیں ہوں، لیکن کوئی بات نہیں۔ مَیں محفوظ رہوں گا۔“ خبردار، ایسی حرکت سے وہ نہ صرف اپنے اوپر بلکہ پورے ملک پر تباہی لائے گا۔

The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.

رب کبھی بھی اُسے معاف کرنے پر آمادہ نہیں ہو گا بلکہ وہ اُسے اپنے غضب اور غیرت کا نشانہ بنائے گا۔ اِس کتاب میں درج تمام لعنتیں اُس پر آئیں گی، اور رب دنیا سے اُس کا نام و نشان مٹا دے گا۔

And the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law:

وہ اُسے پوری جماعت سے الگ کر کے اُس پر عہد کی وہ تمام لعنتیں لائے گا جو شریعت کی اِس کتاب میں لکھی ہوئی ہیں۔

So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it;

مستقبل میں تمہاری اولاد اور دُوردراز ممالک سے آنے والے مسافر اُن مصیبتوں اور امراض کا اثر دیکھیں گے جن سے رب نے ملک کو تباہ کیا ہو گا۔

And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:

چاروں طرف زمین جُھلسی ہوئی اور گندھک اور نمک سے ڈھکی ہوئی نظر آئے گی۔ بیج اُس میں بویا نہیں جائے گا، کیونکہ خود رَو پودوں تک کچھ نہیں اُگے گا۔ تمہارا ملک سدوم، عمورہ، ادمہ اور ضبوئیم کی مانند ہو گا جن کو رب نے اپنے غضب میں تباہ کیا۔

Even all nations shall say, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger?

تمام قومیں پوچھیں گی، ’رب نے اِس ملک کے ساتھ ایسا کیوں کیا؟ اُس کے سخت غضب کی کیا وجہ تھی؟‘

Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt:

اُنہیں جواب ملے گا، ’وجہ یہ ہے کہ اِس ملک کے باشندوں نے رب اپنے باپ دادا کے خدا کا عہد توڑ دیا جو اُس نے اُنہیں مصر سے نکالتے وقت اُن سے باندھا تھا۔

For they went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them:

اُنہوں نے جا کر دیگر معبودوں کی خدمت کی اور اُنہیں سجدہ کیا جن سے وہ پہلے واقف نہیں تھے اور جو رب نے اُنہیں نہیں دیئے تھے۔

And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book:

اِسی لئے اُس کا غضب اِس ملک پر نازل ہوا اور وہ اُس پر وہ تمام لعنتیں لایا جن کا ذکر اِس کتاب میں ہے۔

And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.

وہ اِتنا غصے ہوا کہ اُس نے اُنہیں جڑ سے اُکھاڑ کر ایک اجنبی ملک میں پھینک دیا جہاں وہ آج تک آباد ہیں۔‘

The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

بہت کچھ پوشیدہ ہے، اور صرف رب ہمارا خدا اُس کا علم رکھتا ہے۔ لیکن اُس نے ہم پر اپنی شریعت کا انکشاف کر دیا ہے۔ لازم ہے کہ ہم اور ہماری اولاد اُس کے فرماں بردار رہیں۔
