II Peter 3

This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

عزیزو، یہ اب دوسرا خط ہے جو مَیں نے آپ کو لکھ دیا ہے۔ دونوں خطوں میں مَیں نے کئی باتوں کی یاد دلا کر آپ کے ذہنوں میں پاک سوچ اُبھارنے کی کوشش کی۔

That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

مَیں چاہتا ہوں کہ آپ وہ کچھ یاد رکھیں جس کی پیش گوئی مُقدّس نبیوں نے کی تھی اور ساتھ ساتھ ہمارے خداوند اور نجات دہندہ کا وہ حکم بھی جو آپ کو اپنے رسولوں کی معرفت ملا۔

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

اوّل آپ کو یہ بات سمجھنے کی ضرورت ہے کہ اِن آخری دنوں میں ایسے لوگ آئیں گے جو مذاق اُڑا کر اپنی شہوتوں کے قبضے میں رہیں گے۔

And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

وہ پوچھیں گے، ”عیسیٰ نے آنے کا وعدہ تو کیا، لیکن وہ کہاں ہے؟ ہمارے باپ دادا تو مر چکے ہیں، اور دنیا کی تخلیق سے لے کر آج تک سب کچھ ویسے کا ویسا ہی ہے۔“

For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

لیکن یہ لوگ نظرانداز کرتے ہیں کہ قدیم زمانے میں اللہ کے حکم پر آسمانوں کی تخلیق ہوئی اور زمین پانی میں سے اور پانی کے ذریعے وجود میں آئی۔

Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

اِسی پانی کے ذریعے قدیم زمانے کی دنیا پر سیلاب آیا اور سب کچھ تباہ ہوا۔

But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

اور اللہ کے اِسی حکم نے موجودہ آسمان اور زمین کو آگ کے لئے محفوظ کر رکھا ہے، اُس دن کے لئے جب بےدین لوگوں کی عدالت کی جائے گی اور وہ ہلاک ہو جائیں گے۔

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

لیکن میرے عزیزو، ایک بات آپ سے پوشیدہ نہ رہے۔ خداوند کے نزدیک ایک دن ہزار سال کے برابر ہے اور ہزار سال ایک دن کے برابر۔

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

خداوند اپنا وعدہ پورا کرنے میں دیر نہیں کرتا جس طرح کچھ لوگ سمجھتے ہیں بلکہ وہ تو آپ کی خاطر صبر کر رہا ہے۔ کیونکہ وہ نہیں چاہتا کہ کوئی ہلاک ہو جائے بلکہ یہ کہ سب توبہ کی نوبت تک پہنچیں۔

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

لیکن خداوند کا دن چور کی طرح آئے گا۔ آسمان بڑے شور کے ساتھ ختم ہو جائیں گے، اجرامِ فلکی آگ میں پگھل جائیں گے اور زمین اُس کے کاموں سمیت ظاہر ہو کر عدالت میں پیش کی جائے گی۔

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

اب سوچیں، اگر سب کچھ اِس طرح ختم ہو جائے گا تو پھر آپ کس قسم کے لوگ ہونے چاہئیں؟ آپ کو مُقدّس اور خدا ترس زندگی گزارتے ہوئے

Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

اللہ کے دن کی راہ دیکھنی چاہئے۔ ہاں، آپ کو یہ کوشش کرنی چاہئے کہ وہ دن جلدی آئے جب آسمان جل جائیں گے اور اجرامِ فلکی آگ میں پگھل جائیں گے۔

Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

لیکن ہم اُن نئے آسمانوں اور نئی زمین کے انتظار میں ہیں جس کا وعدہ اللہ نے کیا ہے۔ اور وہاں راستی سکونت کرے گی۔

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

چنانچہ عزیزو، چونکہ آپ اِس انتظار میں ہیں اِس لئے پوری لگن کے ساتھ کوشاں رہیں کہ آپ اللہ کے نزدیک بےداغ اور بےالزام ٹھہریں اور آپ کی اُس کے ساتھ صلح ہو۔

And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

یاد رکھیں کہ ہمارے خداوند کا صبر لوگوں کو نجات پانے کا موقع دیتا ہے۔ ہمارے عزیز بھائی پولس نے بھی اُس حکمت کے مطابق جو اللہ نے اُسے عطا کی ہے آپ کو یہی کچھ لکھا ہے۔

As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

وہ یہی کچھ اپنے تمام خطوں میں لکھتا ہے جب وہ اِس مضمون کا ذکر کرتا ہے۔ اُس کے خطوں میں کچھ ایسی باتیں ہیں جو سمجھنے میں مشکل ہیں اور جنہیں جاہل اور کمزور لوگ توڑ مروڑ کر بیان کرتے ہیں، بالکل اُسی طرح جس طرح وہ باقی صحیفوں کے ساتھ بھی کرتے ہیں۔ لیکن اِس سے وہ اپنے آپ کو ہی ہلاک کر رہے ہیں۔

Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

میرے عزیزو، مَیں آپ کو وقت سے پہلے اِن باتوں سے آگاہ کر رہا ہوں۔ اِس لئے خبردار رہیں تاکہ بےاصول لوگوں کی غلط سوچ آپ کو بہکا کر آپ کو محفوظ مقام سے ہٹا نہ دے۔

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

اِس کے بجائے ہمارے خداوند اور نجات دہندہ عیسیٰ مسیح کے فضل اور علم میں ترقی کرتے رہیں۔ اُسے اب اور ابد تک جلال حاصل ہوتا رہے! آمین۔
