Zephaniah 1

The word of the LORD which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.

Detta är HERRENS ord som kom till Sefanja, son till Kusi, son till Gedalja, son till Amarja, son till Hiskia, i Josias, Amons sons, Juda konungs, tid.

I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the LORD.

 Jag skall rycka bort och förgöra  allt vad på jorden är, säger HERREN;Jer. 8,13.

I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumblingblocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the LORD.

 jag skall förgöra människor och djur,  jag skall förgöra fåglarna under himmelen      och fiskarna i havet,  det vacklande riket      jämte de ogudaktiga människorna;  ja, människorna skall jag utrota      från jorden, säger HERREN.Hos. 4,3.

I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests;

 Jag skall uträcka min hand mot Juda      och mot Jerusalems alla invånare  och utrota från denna plats      Baals sista kvarleva,  avgudaprofeternas namn      jämte prästerna;2 Kon. 23,4 f.

And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship and that swear by the LORD, and that swear by Malcham;

 dem som på taken tillbedja      himmelens härskara,  och dem som tillbedja HERREN      och svärja vid honom      och svärja vid Malkam;Jer. 19,13. 49,1, 3.

And them that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor enquired for him.

 dem som hava vikit bort ifrån HERREN,  och dem som aldrig hava sökt HERREN      eller frågat efter honom.

Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests.

 Varen stilla inför Herren, HERREN!  Ty HERRENS dag är nära;  HERREN har tillrett ett slaktoffer,  han har invigt sina gäster.1 Sam. 16,5. Jes. 13,3. 34,6. Jer. 46,10. Hab. 2,20. Sak. 2,13.

And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD'S sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.

 Och det skall ske på HERRENS slaktoffers dag  att jag skall hemsöka furstarna      och konungasönerna  och alla som kläda sig      i utländska kläder;2 Kon. 25,6 f. Jer. 39,5 f.

In the same day also will I punish all those that leap on the threshold, which fill their masters' houses with violence and deceit.

 Jag skall på den dagen hemsöka      alla som hoppa över tröskeln,  dem som fylla sin herres hus      med våld och svek.1 Sam. 5,5.

And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and an howling from the second, and a great crashing from the hills.

 På den dagen, säger HERREN,  skall klagorop höras ifrån Fiskporten  och jämmer från Nya staden  och stort brak från höjderna.2 Kon. 22,14. Neh. 3,3.

Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all they that bear silver are cut off.

 Jämren eder, I som bon i Mortelkvarteret,  ty det är förbi med hela krämarskaran;  utrotade äro alla de penninglastade.

And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil.

 Och det skall ske på den tiden  att jag skall genomleta Jerusalem med lyktor  och hemsöka de människor      som nu ligga där i ro på sin drägg,  dem som säga i sina hjärtan:      »HERREN gör intet,      varken gott eller ont.»Jer. 48,11 f.

Therefore their goods shall become a booty, and their houses a desolation: they shall also build houses, but not inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, but not drink the wine thereof.

 Deras ägodelar skola då lämnas till plundring      och deras hus till ödeläggelse.  Om de bygga sig hus,      skola de ej få bo i dem,  och om de plantera vingårdar,      skola de ej få dricka vin från dem.5 Mos. 28,30, 38 f. Am. 5,11 9,14. Mik. 6,15.

The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.

 HERRENS stora dag är nära,  ja, den är nära, den kommer med stor hast.  Hör, det är HERRENS dag!  I ångest ropa nu hjältarna.Joel 2,1 f.

That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,

 En vredens dag är den dagen,  en dag av ångest och trångmål,  en dag av ödeläggelse och förödelse  en dag av mörker och tjocka,  en dag av moln och töcken,Jer. 30,7. Am. 5,18.

A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.

 en dag då basunljud och härskri höjes  mot de fastaste städer  och mot de högsta murtorn.

And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.

 Då skall jag bereda människorna sådan ångest      att de gå där såsom blinda,      därför att de hava syndat mot HERREN.  Deras blod skall spridas omkring såsom stoft,  och deras kroppar skola kastas ut såsom orenlighet.

Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD'S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

 Varken deras silver eller deras guld      skall kunna rädda dem      på HERRENS vredes dag.  Av hans nitälskans eld      skall hela jorden förtäras.  Ty en ände, ja, en ände med förskräckelse      skall han göra på alla jordens inbyggare.Ords. 11,4. Jes. 13,17. Hes. 7,19. Sef. 3,8. Syr. 5,7 f.
