Genesis 28

اسحاق ‌یعقوب ‌را صدا كرد. به او سلام كرد و گفت‌: «با دختران‌ كنعانی ازدواج‌ نكن‌.

And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

به ‌بین‌النهرین ‌به ‌خانهٔ پدربزرگت‌ بتوئیل‌ برو و با یكی از دختران دایی خود لابان‌ ازدواج ‌كن‌.

Arise, go to Padan–aram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother's father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother's brother.

تا خدای قادر مطلق ‌ازدواج‌ تو را بركت ‌دهد و فرزندان‌ زیاد به ‌تو بدهد. بنابراین‌ تو پدر ملّتهای بسیار خواهی شد.

And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;

تا خدا همان‌طور كه ‌ابراهیم ‌را بركت ‌داد، تو و فرزندان ‌تو را نیز بركت‌ دهد تا تو مالک‌ این ‌سرزمینی كه‌ در آن‌ زندگی می‌كنی و خدا آن ‌را به ‌ابراهیم‌ داده‌ است، ‌بشوی‌.»

And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.

اسحاق، ‌یعقوب ‌را به‌ بین‌النهرین ‌به‌ نزد لابان ‌پسر بتوئیل ‌اَرامی فرستاد. لابان‌ برادر ربكا -‌مادر یعقوب‌ و عیسو- بود.

And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padan–aram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.

عیسو فهمید كه ‌اسحاق‌ برای یعقوب ‌دعای بركت‌ خوانده‌ و او را به ‌بین‌النهرین ‌فرستاده‌ است‌ تا برای خود زن ‌بگیرد. او همچنین ‌فهمید، وقتی اسحاق‌ برای یعقوب‌ دعای بركت‌ می‌خواند به ‌او دستور داد كه ‌با دختران‌ كنعانی ازدواج‌ نكند.

When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padan–aram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;

او اطّلاع‌ داشت‌ كه‌ یعقوب‌ دستور پدر و مادرش ‌را اطاعت ‌كرده‌ و به‌ بین‌النهرین‌ رفته‌ است‌.

And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padan–aram;

او می‌دانست ‌كه ‌پدرش ‌از زنان‌ كنعانی خوشش ‌نمی‌آید.

And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;

پس ‌به ‌نزد اسماعیل‌، پسر ابراهیم‌ رفت‌ و با محلت‌ دختر اسماعیل‌ كه‌ خواهر نبایوت‌ بود، ازدواج‌ كرد.

Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.

یعقوب ‌بئرشبع ‌را ترک ‌كرد و به‌ طرف‌ حرّان‌ رفت‌.

And Jacob went out from Beer–sheba, and went toward Haran.

هنگام ‌غروب‌ آفتاب‌ به ‌محلی رسید. همان‌جا سنگی زیر سر خود گذاشت ‌و خوابید.

And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.

در خواب‌ دید، پلّكانی در آنجا هست‌ كه ‌یک‌ سرش ‌بر زمین ‌و سر دیگرش‌ در آسمان ‌است ‌و فرشتگان‌ از آن ‌بالا و پایین‌ می‌روند.

And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

و خداوند در كنار آن‌ ایستاده ‌و می‌گوید: «من‌ هستم‌ خدای ابراهیم‌ و اسحاق‌. من‌ این ‌زمینی را كه‌ روی آن‌ خوابیده‌ای به ‌تو و به ‌فرزندان ‌تو خواهم ‌داد.

And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;

نسل ‌تو مانند غبار زمین‌ زیاد خواهد شد. آنها قلمرو خود را از هر طرف ‌توسعه‌ خواهند داد. من‌ به ‌وسیلهٔ تو و فرزندان ‌تو، همهٔ ملّتها را بركت‌ خواهم ‌داد.

And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

به‌ خاطر داشته ‌باش ‌كه ‌من ‌با تو خواهم‌ بود. و هر جا بروی تو را محافظت‌ خواهم‌ كرد و تو را به ‌این‌ زمین ‌باز خواهم‌ آورد. تو را ترک ‌نخواهم ‌كرد تا همهٔ چیزهایی را كه‌ به ‌تو وعده ‌داده‌ام‌ به‌ انجام ‌برسانم‌.»

And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

یعقوب ‌از خواب ‌بیدار شد و گفت‌: «خداوند در اینجاست‌. او در این ‌مكان‌ است ‌و من ‌این‌ را نمی‌دانستم‌.»

And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.

او ترسید و گفت‌: «این‌ چه ‌جای ترسناكی است‌. این‌ جا باید خانهٔ خدا باشد. اینجا دروازهٔ آسمان ‌است‌.»

And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

یعقوب ‌روز بعد، صبح ‌زود برخاست. او سنگی را كه ‌زیر سر خود گذاشته ‌بود برداشت‌ و آن را به عنوان ‌یک ‌ستون ‌یادبود در آنجا گذاشت‌. بر روی آن ‌روغن ‌زیتون‌ ریخت‌ تا به ‌این ‌وسیله‌ آن‌ را برای خدا وقف‌ كند.

And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.

او اسم‌ آن‌ شهر را كه ‌تا آن‌ موقع ‌لوز نامیده‌ می‌شد، بیت‌ئیل ‌گذاشت‌.

And he called the name of that place Beth–el: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

بعد از آن‌ یعقوب ‌برای خداوند نذر كرد و گفت‌: «اگر تو با من‌ باشی و مرا در این ‌سفر محافظت ‌نمایی‌، به ‌من‌ خوراک ‌و لباس‌ بدهی

And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

و من ‌به ‌سلامتی به ‌خانهٔ پدرم‌ بازگردم‌، تو خدای من‌ خواهی بود.

So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:

این‌ ستون‌ یادبودی كه ‌برپا كرده‌ام‌ محل ‌پرستش ‌تو خواهد شد و از هرچه ‌به‌ من ‌بدهی ده‌ یک ‌آن‌ را به ‌تو خواهم ‌داد.»

And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
