II Peter 3

3:1

ای عزیزان، این دومین نامه‌ای است كه به شما می‌نویسم. در هر دو نامه سعی كردم كه با یادآوری این مطالب، افكار پاک شما را برانگیزانم.

This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

3:2

می‌خواهم سخنانی را كه انبیای مقدّس در گذشته گفته‌اند و فرمانی را كه خداوند و نجات‌دهندهٔ ما به وسیلهٔ رسولان خود به شما داد به‌خاطر شما بیاورم.

That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

3:3

قبل از هر چیز باید بدانید كه در زمان آخر اشخاصی پیدا خواهند شد كه ایمان شما را مسخره خواهند نمود، چون تحت فرمان شهوات پلید خود زندگی می‌کنند و

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

3:4

خواهند گفت: «آن کسی‌که وعده داد كه می‌آید، كجاست؟ از زمانی‌که نیاکان ما مردند، همه‌چیز هنوز همان‌طور است كه از زمان خلقت دنیا بوده است!»

And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

3:5

عمداً این حقیقت را فراموش می‌کنند كه خدا در قدیم تكلّم فرمود و آسمانها و زمین آفریده شد و زمین از آب ساخته شد و وجودش به آب بسته است

For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

3:6

و همچنین با آب بود، یعنی آب سیل كه دنیای كهن ویران شد.

Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

3:7

امّا این آسمان و زمینی كه اكنون می‌‌بینید به وسیلهٔ همان كلام خدا نگاه داشته می‌شود تا در روزی كه بدكاران داوری خواهند شد و به كیفر خود یعنی هلاكت خواهند رسید، با آتش نابود شود.

But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

3:8

امّا ای عزیزان، این حقیقت از شما پنهان نماند كه در نظر خداوند یک روز مثل هزار سال و هزار سال مثل یک روز می‌باشد.

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

3:9

خداوند در انجام آنچه وعده داده است آن‌چنان‌که بعضی‌ها گمان می‌کنند تأمّل نمی‌کند، بلكه با صبر شما را تحمّل می‌نماید، زیرا نمی‌خواهد كسی نابود شود بلكه مایل است همه از گناهانشان توبه كنند.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
