II Chronicles 32

پس از این رویدادها که حزقیای پادشاه، خداوند را وفادارانه خدمت کرد، سنحاریب، امپراتور آشور به یهودا حمله نمود. او شهرهای مستحکم را محاصره کرد و قصد داشت آنها را به تصرّف خود در آورد.

After these things, and the establishment thereof, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fenced cities, and thought to win them for himself.

هنگامی‌که حزقیا دید که سنحاریب قصد حمله به اورشلیم را هم دارد،

And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,

با کمک افسران و رزمندگان خود نقشه کشیدند تا جلوی جریان آب چشمه‌های خارج از شهر را بگیرند و با کمک ایشان همین کار را کردند.

He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him.

گروه بزرگی از مردم گرد آمدند و تمام چشمه‌ها و نهرهای سرزمین را مسدود کردند و گفتند: «چرا باید پادشاهان آشور بیایند و آب فراوان بیابند.»

So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?

حزقیا با پشتکار به بازسازی قسمت‌های خراب شدهٔ دیوار شهر پرداخت و بُرجهایی بر آنها ساخت و خارج آن دیوار، دیوار دیگری هم ساخت و خاکریزهای شهر داوود را نیز مستحکم کرد و اسلحه‌ها و سپرهای فراوانی ساخت.

Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.

او فرماندهان ارتش را برای سرپرستی مردم گماشت و همه را در میدان نزدیک دروازهٔ شهر گرد آورد و به ایشان دلگرمی‌ داد و گفت:

And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city, and spake comfortably to them, saying,

«نیرومند و شجاع باشید. از امپراتور آشور و ارتش بزرگ او نترسید و هراسان نباشید، زیرا کسی‌که همراه ماست، قویتر از کسی است که با اوست.

Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:

او فقط نیروی انسانی دارد، ولی ما خداوند، خدایمان را داریم تا به ما کمک کند و برای ما در نبردهای ما بجنگد.» مردم از سخنان پادشاه خود دلگرم شدند.

With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

پس از مدّتی، هنگامی‌که سنحاریب، امپراتور آشور و نیروهای او هنوز در شهر لاکیش بودند، افسرانی را نزد حزقیا و مردم یهودا که در اورشلیم بودند فرستاد که چنین پیام بدهند:

After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,

«من سنحاریب امپراتور آشور می‌پرسم: بر چه تکیه کرده‌اید که حاضرید در اورشلیم محاصره شده بمانید؟

Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, Whereon do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?

حزقیا شما را به دست گرسنگی و تشنگی سپرده است تا بمیرید. آیا هنگامی‌که به شما می‌گوید که خداوند خدای ما، ما را از دست امپراتور آشور رهایی خواهد داد، شما را گمراه نکرده است؟

Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The LORD our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

آیا همین حزقیا نبود که پرستشگاههای بالای تپّه‌ها و قربانگاههای آنها را برداشت و به مردم یهودا و اورشلیم فرمان داد تا تنها در برابر یک قربانگاه نیایش کنند و در برابر آن قربانی‌های خود را تقدیم کنند؟

Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?

آیا نمی‌دانید که من و نیاکانم با مردمان سرزمین‌‌های دیگر چه کرده‌ایم؟ آیا خدایان آن ملّتها قادر بودند که آن سرزمینها را از دست امپراتور آشور رهایی بخشند؟

Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?

کدام‌یک از خدایان ملّتهایی که نیاکان من نابود کردند، قادر بودند تا مردم خود را از چنگ من برهانند که خدای شما قادر باشد، شما را از دست من رهایی بخشد؟

Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?

اکنون هم نگذارید که حزقیا شما را بدین‌سان فریب بدهد و گمراه کند. او را باور نکنید، زیرا خدای هیچ ملّتی یا کشوری نتوانسته مردم خود را از دست من و یا نیاکانم رهایی بخشد. بنابراین خدای شما هم نمی‌تواند شما را نجات بدهد»

Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?

نمایندگان سنحاریب بیش از این علیه خداوند، خدا و بندهٔ او، حزقیا بد گفتند.

And his servants spake yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah.

سنحاریب همچنین نامه‌های توهین‌آمیز به ضد خداوند، خدای اسرائیل به این شرح نوشت: «همان‌طور که خدایان اقوام دیگر نتوانستند مردمان خود را از دست من نجات بدهند، خدای حزقیا هم قادر نخواهد بود که قوم خود را از چنگ من رهایی بخشد.»

He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.

سپس آنها با صدای بلند و به زبان یهودی به مردم اورشلیم که بر سر دیوار بودند فریاد کردند تا آنها را بترسانند و به وحشت اندازند تا شاید بتوانند شهر را تصرّف کنند.

Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews' speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

ایشان دربارهٔ خدای اورشلیم مانند خدایان مردمان دیگر که به دست انسان ساخته شده‌اند، سخن گفتند.

And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.

آنگاه حزقیای پادشاه و اشعیای نبی پسر آموص در این باره دعا کردند و به سوی آسمان فریاد برآوردند.

And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.

خداوند فرشته‌ای فرستاد و تمام رزمندگان فرماندهان و افسران اردوی امپراتور آشور را از پا درآورد و او با سرافکندگی به وطن خود بازگشت. هنگامی‌که به پرستشگاه خدای خود وارد شد، گروهی از پسرانش او را در آنجا با شمشیر زدند و کشتند.

And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.

پس خداوند حزقیا و مردم اورشلیم را از دست سنحاریب، امپراتور آشور و همهٔ دشمنان دیگر رهایی بخشید و از هر جهت به ایشان آرامی ‌داد.

Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side.

بسیاری به اورشلیم آمده برای خداوند هدایا و برای حزقیا، پادشاه یهودا اشیای گرانبها آوردند. پس از آن همهٔ ملّتها با دیده احترام به او می‌نگریستند.

And many brought gifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.

در آن روزگار حزقیا بیمار شد و تا پای مرگ رسید. او نزد خداوند دعا کرد و خداوند در پاسخ به او نشانه‌ای داد.

In those days Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto the LORD: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.

امّا حزقیا دلی مغرور داشت و برطبق برکاتی که خداوند به او داده بود عمل نکرد. پس خشم خداوند بر یهودا و اورشلیم برافروخته شد.

But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.

آنگاه حزقیا غرور دل خود را فروتن کرد، او و مردم اورشلیم فروتن شدند و خشم خداوند در دوران زندگی حزقیا بر ایشان فرود نیامد.

Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

حزقیا بسیار دولتمند و مورد احترام بود. او برای نگهداری از طلا و نقره و سنگهای گرانبها و عطرها، سپرها و بقیّهٔ اشیای گرانبها انبارها ساخت.

And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels;

همچنین انبارهایی برای غلاّت، شراب و روغن و طویله برای رمه‌ها و آغل برای گوسفندان ساخت.

Storehouses also for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks.

او همچنین شهرهایی برای خود ساخت و رمه و گلّهٔ بسیار به دست آورد، زیرا خدا به او ثروت فراوانی داده بود.

Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much.

این حزقیا بود که شعبهٔ بالایی جیحون را سد زد و آن را به‌ طرف غرب شهر داوود، روان ساخت. حزقیا در همهٔ کارهایش کامیاب شد

This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

هنگامی‌که سفیران بابلی آمدند تا از او در مورد رویدادهای شگفت‌انگیزی که در سرزمین او رخ داده بود سؤال کنند، خداوند حزقیا را به حال خود گذاشت تا قلب او را آزمایش کند.

Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

بقیّهٔ رویدادهای دوران سلطنت حزقیا و کارهای نیک او همه در کتاب اشعیای نبی پسر آموص و در کتاب تاریخ پادشاهان یهودا و اسرائیل نوشته شده‌اند.

Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

حزقیا در گذشت و او را در قسمت بالایی آرامگاه سلطنتی به خاک سپردند. همهٔ مردم یهودا و اورشلیم در مراسم خاکسپاری به او احترام گذاشتند. پسرش منسی جانشین او شد.

And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chiefest of the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
