I Samuel 12

سموئیل به قوم اسرائیل گفت: «خواهشی که از من کرده بودید، بجا آوردم و پادشاهی برایتان منصوب کردم.

And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you.

اکنون پادشاه رهبر شماست. امّا من پیر شده و موهایم سفید گشته است، پسران من نزد شما هستند. من از دوران جوانی شما را خدمت کرده‌ام.

And now, behold, the king walketh before you: and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my childhood unto this day.

اکنون از شما می‌خواهم که در حضور خداوند و پادشاه برگزیدهٔ او حقیقت را بگویید که آیا من گاو یا الاغ کسی را بزور گرفته‌ام؟ آیا بر کسی ظلم کرده‌ام یا به کسی آزار رسانده‌ام؟ اگر از کسی رشوه گرفته‌ام تا چشمان خود را ببندم، بگویید تا آن را جبران کنم.»

Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.

آنها گفتند: «نه، تو به کسی ظلم نکرده‌ای، و به کسی هم آزار نرسانده‌ای و از کسی رشوه نگرفته‌ای.»

And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man's hand.

سموئیل گفت: «پس خدا و پادشاه برگزیدهٔ او شاهد من هستند که من در پیش شما گناهی ندارم.» آنها جواب دادند: «بلی، درست است.»

And he said unto them, The LORD is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found ought in my hand. And they answered, He is witness.

سموئیل گفت: «خداوند بود که موسی و هارون را مأمور ساخت و اجداد شما را از مصر بیرون آورد.

And Samuel said unto the people, It is the LORD that advanced Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.

اکنون بایستید تا در پیشگاه خداوند شما را متّهم نمایم که خداوند چه کارهایی در حق شما و نیاکانتان کرده است.

Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.

وقتی بنی‌اسرائیل در مصر بودند و مردم آنجا شروع به آزار آنها کردند، آنان به حضور خداوند گریه و زاری نمودند. پس خداوند موسی و هارون را فرستاد و آنها نیاکان شما را از مصر خارج نموده و به این سرزمین آوردند.

When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers cried unto the LORD, then the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, which brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.

ولی آنها بزودی خداوند خدای خود را فراموش کردند. پس خداوند، آنها را به دست دشمنانشان، یعنی سیسرا، فرماندهٔ سپاه یابین، پادشاه کشور حاصور، فلسطینیان و پادشاه موآب مغلوب ساخت.

And when they forgat the LORD their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.

آنها باز پیش خداوند ناله و زاری کردند و گفتند: ما گناهکار هستیم، زیرا خداوند را فراموش کردیم و در عوض بُتهای بعل و عشتاروت را پرستیدیم. حالا ما را ببخش و از دست دشمنان نجات بده و ما تنها تو را پرستش خواهیم کرد.

And they cried unto the LORD, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken the LORD, and have served Baalim and Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.

پس خداوند جدعون و باراق، یفتاح و سرانجام مرا فرستاد و شما را از دست دشمنانی که در اطرافتان بودند، رهایی بخشید و باز به شما فرصت داد تا زندگی آسوده‌ای داشته باشید.

And the LORD sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye dwelled safe.

امّا وقتی دیدید که ناحاش، پادشاه عمونیان قصد دارد به شما حمله کند، خدای خود را رد کردید و از من خواستید که پادشاهی برای شما تعیین کنم تا بر شما حکومت کند.

And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the LORD your God was your king.

«اینک این پادشاهی که انتخاب کرده‌‌‌اید؛ از خداوند خواستید و او یک پادشاه برای شما تعیین نمود تا بر شما حکومت کند.

Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! and, behold, the LORD hath set a king over you.

پس اگر از خدا بترسید و از او اطاعت نموده، او را خدمت نمایید و دستورات او را بجا آورید و اگر شما و پادشاهی که بر شما حکومت می‌کند از فرمان خداوند خدای خود پیروی کنید، همه‌چیز برای شما نیکو خواهد شد.

If ye will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the LORD your God:

امّا اگر به سخنان خداوند گوش ندهید و از اوامر او سرپیچی کنید، آنگاه او علیه شما و پادشاه شما خواهد بود.

But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers.

اینک توجّه نمایید و کارهای عظیم خداوند را ببینید.

Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes.

شما می‌دانید که در این فصل سال که وقت درو گندم است، باران نمی‌بارد. امّا من به درگاه خداوند دعا می‌کنم تا رعد و برق و باران از آسمان بفرستد تا بدانید که وقتی خواستید پادشاهی برای شما تعیین شود، چه گناه بزرگی در برابر خداوند مرتکب شدید.»

Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.

آنگاه سموئیل به حضور خداوند دعا کرد و خداوند در همان روز رعد و برق و باران را فرستاد و ترس خداوند و سموئیل همگی را فراگرفت.

So Samuel called unto the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.

قوم اسرائیل به سموئیل گفتند: «از حضور خداوند خدای خود تمنّا کن که ما را هلاک نسازد؛ زیرا به‌خاطر اینکه برای خود پادشاه خواستیم، به گناهان خود افزودیم.»

And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto the LORD thy God, that we die not: for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king.

سموئیل به آنها گفت: «نترسید، می‌دانم که شما گناهکار هستید، امّا سعی کنید که از این به بعد از احکام خداوند پیروی کنید و از دل و جان او را خدمت نمایید.

And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart;

به دنبال چیزهای بیهوده نروید زیرا آنها فایده‌ای ندارند و نمی‌توانند شما را نجات بدهند.

And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.

خداوند به‌خاطر نام با عظمت خود، قوم خود را ترک نمی‌کند. او با میل خود شما را قوم خاص خود ساخت.

For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name's sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people.

من هم خدا نکند که در مقابل خداوند مرتکب گناهی بشوم و دست از دعا کردن برای شما بکشم، بلکه من راه راست و نیک را به شما نشان خواهم داد.

Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

فقط از خداوند بترسید و با ایمان کامل و با تمام وجود از او اطاعت کنید و کارهای عظیمی را که برای شما کرده است، از یاد نبرید.

Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

امّا اگر باز هم از کارهای بد دست نکشید، هم شما و هم پادشاه شما هلاک خواهید شد.»

But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.
