Matthew 16

Pristupe k njemu farizeji i saduceji. Iskušavajući ga, zatraže da im pokaže kakav znak s neba.

The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.

On im odgovori: "Uvečer govorite: 'Bit će vedro, nebo se žari.'

He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.

A ujutro: 'Danas će nevrijeme, nebo se tamno zacrvenjelo.' Lice neba znadete rasuditi, a znakove vremena ne znate.

And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

Naraštaj opak i preljubnički znak traži, ali mu se znak neće dati doli znak Jonin." Tada ih ostavi i ode.

A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

Učenici dođoše prijeko, a zaboraviše ponijeti kruha.

And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.

A Isus im reče: "Pazite, čuvajte se kvasca farizejskog i saducejskog!"

Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

Oni zamišljeni među sobom govorahu: "Kruha ne ponijesmo."

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.

Zamijetio to Isus pa reče: "Što ste zamišljeni, malovjerni, da kruha nemate?

Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?

Zar još ne shvaćate, ne sjećate li se onih pet kruhova na pet tisuća i koliko košara nakupiste?

Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

I onih sedam kruhova na četiri tisuće i koliko košara nakupiste?

Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

Kako onda ne shvaćate da vam to ne rekoh o kruhu? Nego, čuvajte se kvasca farizejskog i saducejskog."

How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?

Tada razumješe kako im ne reče da se čuvaju kvasca krušnoga, nego nauka farizejskog i saducejskoga.

Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

Kad Isus dođe u krajeve Cezareje Filipove, upita učenike: "Što govore ljudi, tko je Sin Čovječji?"

When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

Oni rekoše: "Jedni da je Ivan Krstitelj; drugi da je Ilija; treći opet da je Jeremija ili koji od proroka."

And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

Kaže im: "A vi, što vi kažete, tko sam ja?"

He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

Šimun Petar prihvati i reče: "Ti si Krist-Pomazanik, Sin Boga živoga."

And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Nato Isus reče njemu: "Blago tebi, Šimune, sine Jonin, jer ti to ne objavi tijelo i krv, nego Otac moj, koji je na nebesima.

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar–jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

A ja tebi kažem: Ti si Petar-Stijena i na toj stijeni sagradit ću Crkvu svoju i vrata paklena neće je nadvladati.

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Tebi ću dati ključeve kraljevstva nebeskoga, pa što god svežeš na zemlji, bit će svezano na nebesima; a što god odriješiš na zemlji, bit će odriješeno na nebesima."

And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Tada zaprijeti učenicima neka nikomu ne reknu da je on Krist.

Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

Otada poče Isus upućivati učenike kako treba da pođe u Jeruzalem, da mnogo pretrpi od starješina, glavara svećeničkih i pismoznanaca, da bude ubijen i treći dan da uskrsne.

From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

Petar ga uze na stranu i poče odvraćati: "Bože sačuvaj, Gospodine! Ne, to se tebi ne smije dogoditi!"

Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.

Isus se okrene i reče Petru: "Nosi se od mene, sotono! Sablazan si mi jer ti nije na pameti što je Božje, nego što je ljudsko!"

But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

Tada Isus reče svojim učenicima: "Hoće li tko za mnom, neka se odrekne samoga sebe, neka uzme svoj križ i neka ide za mnom.

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Tko hoće život svoj spasiti, izgubit će ga, a tko izgubi život svoj poradi mena, naći će ga.

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Ta što će koristiti čovjeku ako sav svijet stekne, a životu svojemu naudi? Ili što će čovjek dati u zamjenu za život svoj?

For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Doći će, doista, Sin Čovječji u slavi Oca svoga s anđelima svojim i tada će naplatiti svakomu po djelima njegovim."

For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

"Zaista, kažem vam, neki od ovdje nazočnih neće okusiti smrti dok ne vide Sina Čovječjega gdje dolazi sa svojim kraljevstvom."

Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
