Lamentations 4

ہائے، سونے کی آب و تاب نہ رہی، خالص سونا بھی ماند پڑ گیا ہے۔ مقدِس کے جواہر تمام گلیوں میں بکھرے پڑے ہیں۔

How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.

پہلے تو صیون کے گراں قدر فرزند خالص سونے جیسے قیمتی تھے، لیکن اب وہ گویا مٹی کے برتن سمجھے جاتے ہیں جو عام کمہار نے بنائے ہیں۔

The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

گو گیدڑ بھی اپنے بچوں کو دودھ پلاتے ہیں، لیکن میری قوم ریگستان میں رہنے والے عقابی اُلّو جیسی ظالم ہو گئی ہے۔

Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

شیرخوار بچے کی زبان پیاس کے مارے تالو سے چپک گئی ہے۔ چھوٹے بچے بھوک کے مارے روٹی مانگتے ہیں، لیکن کھلانے والا کوئی نہیں ہے۔

The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.

جو پہلے لذیذ کھانا کھاتے تھے وہ اب گلیوں میں تباہ ہو رہے ہیں۔ جو پہلے ارغوانی رنگ کے شاندار کپڑے پہنتے تھے وہ اب کُوڑے کرکٹ میں لوٹ پوٹ ہو رہے ہیں۔

They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

میری قوم سے سدوم کی نسبت کہیں زیادہ سنگین گناہ سرزد ہوا ہے۔ اور سدوم کا قصور اِتنا سنگین تھا کہ وہ ایک ہی لمحے میں تباہ ہوا۔ کسی نے بھی مداخلت نہ کی۔

For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.

صیون کے رئیس کتنے شاندار تھے! جِلد برف جیسی نکھری، دودھ جیسی سفید تھی۔ رخسار مونگے کی طرح گلابی، شکل و صورت سنگِ لاجورد جیسی چمک دار تھی۔

Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:

لیکن اب وہ کوئلے جیسے کالے نظر آتے ہیں۔ جب گلیوں میں گھومتے ہیں تو اُنہیں پہچانا نہیں جاتا۔ اُن کی ہڈیوں پر کی جِلد سکڑ کر لکڑی کی طرح سوکھی ہوئی ہے۔

Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.

جو تلوار سے ہلاک ہوئے اُن کا حال اُن سے بہتر تھا جو بھوکوں مر گئے۔ کیونکہ کھیتوں سے خوراک نہ ملنے پر وہ گھل گھل کر مر گئے۔

They that be slain with the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for want of the fruits of the field.

جب میری قوم تباہ ہوئی تو اِتنا سخت کال پڑ گیا کہ نرم دل ماؤں نے بھی اپنے بچوں کو پکا کر کھا لیا۔

The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.

رب نے اپنا پورا غضب صیون پر نازل کیا، اُسے اپنے شدید قہر کا نشانہ بنایا۔ اُس نے یروشلم میں اِتنی زبردست آگ لگائی کہ وہ بنیادوں تک بھسم ہو گیا۔

The LORD hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger, and hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof.

اب دشمن یروشلم کے دروازوں میں داخل ہوئے ہیں، حالانکہ دنیا کے تمام بادشاہ بلکہ سب لوگ سمجھتے تھے کہ یہ ممکن ہی نہیں۔

The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.

لیکن یہ سب کچھ اُس کے نبیوں اور اماموں کے سبب سے ہوا جنہوں نے شہر ہی میں راست بازوں کی خوں ریزی کی۔

For the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,

اب یہی لوگ اندھوں کی طرح گلیوں میں ٹٹول ٹٹول کر پھرتے ہیں۔ وہ خون سے اِتنے آلودہ ہیں کہ سب لوگ اُن کے کپڑوں سے لگنے سے گریز کرتے ہیں۔

They have wandered as blind men in the streets, they have polluted themselves with blood, so that men could not touch their garments.

اُنہیں دیکھ کر لوگ گرجتے ہیں، ”ہٹو، تم ناپاک ہو! بھاگ جاؤ، دفع ہو جاؤ، ہمیں ہاتھ مت لگانا!“ پھر جب وہ دیگر اقوام میں جا کر اِدھر اُدھر پھرنے لگتے ہیں تو وہاں کے لوگ بھی کہتے ہیں کہ یہ مزید یہاں نہ ٹھہریں۔

They cried unto them, Depart ye; it is unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and wandered, they said among the heathen, They shall no more sojourn there.

رب نے خود اُنہیں منتشر کر دیا، اب سے وہ اُن کا خیال نہیں کرے گا۔ اب نہ اماموں کی عزت ہوتی ہے، نہ بزرگوں پر مہربانی کی جاتی ہے۔

The anger of the LORD hath divided them; he will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, they favoured not the elders.

ہم چاروں طرف آنکھ دوڑاتے رہے، لیکن بےفائدہ، کوئی مدد نہ ملی۔ دیکھتے دیکھتے ہماری نظر دُھندلا گئی۔ کیونکہ ہم اپنے بُرجوں پر کھڑے ایک ایسی قوم کے انتظار میں رہے جو ہماری مدد کر ہی نہیں سکتی تھی۔

As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.

ہم اپنے چوکوں میں جا نہ سکے، کیونکہ وہاں دشمن ہماری تاک میں بیٹھا تھا۔ ہمارا خاتمہ قریب آیا، ہمارا مقررہ وقت اختتام پذیر ہوا، ہمارا انجام آ پہنچا۔

They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.

جس طرح آسمان پر منڈلانے والا عقاب ایک دم شکار پر جھپٹ پڑتا ہے اُسی طرح ہمارا تعاقب کرنے والے ہم پر ٹوٹ پڑے، اور وہ بھی کہیں زیادہ تیزی سے۔ وہ پہاڑوں پر ہمارے پیچھے پیچھے بھاگے اور ریگستان میں ہماری گھات میں رہے۔

Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.

ہمارا بادشاہ بھی اُن کے گڑھوں میں پھنس گیا۔ جو ہماری جان تھا اور جسے رب نے مسح کر کے چن لیا تھا اُسے بھی پکڑ لیا گیا، گو ہم نے سوچا تھا کہ اُس کے سائے میں بس کر اقوام کے درمیان محفوظ رہیں گے۔

The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the LORD, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.

اے ادوم بیٹی، بےشک شادیانہ بجا! بےشک ملکِ عُوض میں رہ کر خوشی منا! لیکن خبردار، اللہ کے غضب کا پیالہ تجھے بھی پلایا جائے گا۔ تب تُو اُسے پی پی کر مست ہو جائے گی اور نشے میں اپنے کپڑے اُتار کر برہنہ پھرے گی۔

Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.

اے صیون بیٹی، تیری سزا کا وقت پورا ہو گیا ہے۔ اب سے رب تجھے قیدی بنا کر جلاوطن نہیں کرے گا۔ لیکن اے ادوم بیٹی، وہ تجھے تیرے قصور کا پورا اجر دے گا، وہ تیرے گناہوں پر سے پردہ اُٹھا لے گا۔

The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins.
